Why do academics constantly assert the USSR under Stalin wasn't "real communism"?
Nigga, what is your definition of Communism?
>>18422901The only people who say this are trotskyistsMarxist Leninists think Stalin was a true communist as do all Anti communists By definition, the USSR was not a “ communist society “ though, nor had it achieved communism. It was a socialist state trying to build communism
>>18423126>Communism>dictator
>>18422901Because those "academics" are commies and they know Stalin's brutality makes their shitty ideology look bad.
>>18422901It's because there's a pretty jarring gap between what socialists had been saying they were about and a system built around the personification of one guy who is treated as a demi-god and even telling the wrong joke about him could get you killed. The closet analogy is to North Korea. So people wonder, how the hell did the first thing lead to this:https://youtu.be/rQEgjWWjed4
>>18423195Communism is not Marxism Leninism.Communism is the end goal.ML is one of the paths, where you need a dictator to protect the revolution from CIA and hostile capitalist forces that want to rape and enslave you like Hitler
>>18422901>>18423203>The Academics™Name a single one.
>>18423126>>18423243It's somewhat these.I'll add that Maex placed virtually no restrictions on how a state conducts its policies so long as the endgame is world revolution and a stateless global Communist society. Lenin's USSR had mixed economics, not Socialism. Current-day China is theoretically still faithful to Marxism as well.
>>18422901Because Communism is literally impossible to achieve given current 20th and 21st century material conditions. It’s just not feasible at the present time. Even they realized it hence NEP and Dengist reforms and the like every time it is implemented
I'm not one of these people who thinks it wasn't "real communism." But I believe now that Stalinism is produced by failure since all of the arguments/justifications for it (see ITT) are built around lowering people's expectations, but that's necessary because FEAR. You have to go with it or else the CIA will subvert you or Hitler was rape and enslave you. It's a strict black/white and binary mental universe of total dictatorship or doom. It does basically run on blackmail and fatalism and in practice turns into a mass cult. Trotskyists say this is a "betrayal" of the emancipatory side of socialism, but I'm not going to get into that. I think a more interesting question is how this was produced as an outcome in historical materialist terms, without justifying it, because actually you can also use a crude sort of pseudo-dialectics to justify anything that ever happens. Also one of the weird and paradoxical effects of Stalinism was depoliticization of the population. It's weird because it is hyper-political with mass public gatherings to display loyalty and so on but it was basically for show to legitimize the party's decisions (and the leader's decisions) which were extremely centralized. This isn't unique to Stalinism but the atomization of the population was really radical. A lot of early Soviet public images from the civil war to the WWII is also just kind of baseline not real. They rewrote history all the time and fabricated events and created mythical characters like Pavlik Morozov and built statues of him.
>Pavel Trofimovich Morozov (Russian: Пáвeл Tpoфи́мoвич Mopóзoв; 14 November 1918 – 3 September 1932), better known by the diminutive Pavlik, was a Soviet youth praised by the Soviet press as a martyr. Evidence has emerged since the dissolution of the Soviet Union of the fabrication of the Pavlik Morozov legend, as well as what Soviet officials thought of him. His story, dated to 1932, is that of a 13-year-old boy who denounced his father to the authorities and was in turn killed by his family. His story was a subject of reading, songs, plays, a symphonic poem, a full-length opera, and six biographies. His politicized and mythologized story was used to encourage Soviet Bloc children to also inform on their parents.[...]>Thousands of telegrams from all over the Soviet Union urged the judge to show no mercy for Pavlik's killers. The Soviet government declared Pavlik Morozov a glorious martyr who had been murdered by reactionaries. Statues of him were built, and numerous schools and youth groups were named in his honour. An opera and numerous songs were written about him. The Gerasimovka school that Morozov attended became a shrine, and children from all over the Soviet Union went on school excursions to visit it. The Cultural Palace of the Young Pioneers was renamed after him. The USSR widely distributed a painting of Pavlik stating "I accuse my father not as his son, but as a Pioneer" while standing underneath a painting of Lenin at a courthouse. Sergei Eisenstein produced a film about Pavlik's life. According to Nadezhda Mandelstam's memoirs, while in exile in Kalinin (now Tver), she met a boy who was also in exile with his family who "spent his days denouncing his parents as traitors and lamenting the fact that, unlike Pavlik, he had not denounced his parents in time", saying "Stalin is my father and I do not need another one."

>>18423245Anyone who works at a big city university in a western country.
>>18423310Yeah they did, but Stalin died and then the system he constructed toppled over with very little resistance a few decades ago. The only way to really keep a 1930s-1950s Stalinist state going is to be like North Korea where it transitions into a hereditary monarchy and you work 16 hours a day making artillery shells while living in Africa tier poverty.
>>18423322So you can't name one.
>>18423330NK is still around today and no one fucks with them, cry about it
Because “real communism” entails the abolishment of the state (the USSR was an authoritarian state with absolute power), the abolishment of currency and the abolishment of land ownership (the one party system owned Russia + the eastern bloc). It wasn’t just Stalin. It was the entire lifespan of the USSR along with other commie state). But there’s good news commies. Real communism has been practiced. Being a slave in America during slavery was real communism. Being a slave in the Soviet gulag was real communism. Being a primitive hunter gatherer who practiced egalitarianism was real communism.
He criminalized sodomy, the most important part of communism after worshipping negros (he still did this though).
>>18423645You've got North Korea, job well done.
>>18423126No
>>18423642I just did
>>18423126Trotskyism is as unrealistic and foolish as the idea of World Peace.
>>18423002Historically communism was a 10/1 ratio of oil to iron production. Here are the figures for 1970.Oil tonsUssr 350mIran 190mAlgeria 48mAngola 6mChina 30mEgypt 5mCoalUssr 770mSouth Africa 100mChina 300mNorth Korea 10mIran 1mIron (pig iron)Angola 6mUssr 100mIran 500kAlgeria 100kSouth Africa 5mNorth Korea 2.5mChina 23mEgypt 400kAngola hit the ratio from growth. Cuba got it in 2000s. Kerala has it if you include trade.RatiosCommunistUssr 10China 10Egypt 10North Korea 4 plus aidNotIran 1000Algeria 500Angola 1South Africa 20So it's a ratio, coal higher.France was 10m coal in 1870 and 100k iron. By 1910 it was 30m coal 300k iron. Then it stayed around 1m iron and it crossed the ratio in the eighties but then the industry collapsed.Germany was 1m iron 1885 40m coal, 10m/100m around the time of the german revolution, then iron crashed and coal stayed high. Uk was 1mt iron in 1880 and 200mt coal. It was 10mt in ww1 iron. It hit the ratio going down also but then the industry collapsed.
