Europeans tend to hate each on the basis of conflicts that happened 100, perhaps 200 years ago and not more than an entire Millennia. Well, besides the Poles, but I digress.
Germans and Italians like each other, especially since the end of WW2 they have a close relationship.

No. The nazis were racialists and didn't feel any kinship to ancient rome or italians. They just really admired what ancient rome was, and tried to create something similar but german.
