Why couldn't they just admit they did the holocaust, apologize, and pay reparations to Poland and USSR?

Reparations were also paid in massive amounts of Germany (land, people, corporations, and equipment); given to the Polish and the Soviets. Germany lost ALL of Prussia's former land to Poland and the Soviets, which at one point, was the most powerful and wealthy area of all of Germany. Prussia was directly responsible for making Germany into one nation. Prussia was arguably the most important historical part of Germany and it no longer exists in any respect. The Soviets turned into another bland, gray, concrete, Soviet commieblock. So in short, OP, you have no fucking clue what you're talking about. Generally speaking, it's probably a good idea to fact check what you're saying before post it in /his/.
