Romeabooism is basically projecting your imperial/colonial-glazing beliefs without risking scrutiny by the public. You can talk a lot about how the superior Romans civilized the inferior barbarians, which you cannot get away with regarding the British without seething the Irish or Indians, Japanese without seething the Chinese or Koreans, Ottoman without seething the Balkans, Armenians, or Arabs, or even the Spanish Empire, because the ancient Romans happened so long ago that how it affects us is irrelevant.

Slavery in Rome was unique, because skilled, artisan class slaves and the like were routinely manumitted their freedom and there were established legal protections for such slaves and even a path to citizenship for them. A good chunk of Rome's citizenry were actually freedmen, and there was even an entire holiday in Rome honoring them.

But yeah, they also had chattel slaves who toiled in the mines, in the fields, rowing ships, etc and they had basically no hope of manumission. As long as you had an actual trade, though, you stood actually a better chance of earning Roman citizenship than free people in conquered provinces.

seemed like not all slaves in ancient rome was alike
some were more similar to indentured servitude, some more like sefdom, and others were more like the brutal chattel slavery

They basically segregated them by social class. Laborers were property, but skilled artisans, musicians, tradesmen, anyone literate or numerate, would be given a kind of provisional citizenship.

The Roman Republic and early attempts at empire were good. Colonialism was good. Bringing black people outside of Africa was very bad.

Thank you for your attention to these matters.

Clearly bringing Germans to Rome wasn't really a good idea either.

Germanic were better solider and imperial bodyguards.

Late Rome was pro-Roman barbarians vs anti-Roman barbarians overseen by a small Illyrian military class. You're starting to see similar dynamics in the modern west.

>how it affects us is irrelevant.
Tell me that you don't care bout history without telling me that you don't care about history.

It's true. US military struggles to recruits whites these days, since military age men are going to be majority nonwhite in the near future it's only going to get worse. Yet, despite this, basically all the general staff are white, many from old military families that have been high officers for generations.

The sad thing is that this low tier bait made by an 18 year old history undergrad will stay up for days and hit 100+ replies

I like Rome because of the sheer quantity of first rate literature it produced and inspired. From Cicero, Livy, and Virgil in antiquity to John Williams, Robert Graves, and Colleen McCullough in the modern world.

Anyone would have been better bodyguards than Italians. But using foreigners as bodyguards, because they lacked the ability to coup the same way was extremely common all around the world.

When Whites do it to each other, it's bad, when Whites do it to shitskins and asians it's good.
When shitskins and asians do it to each other and kill each other it's great, when shitskins and asians do it against Whites it's a crime against humanity.
Why is it so hard to understand? Non-whites are chattel animals.

You like rome because of the imperialism, slavery and cruelty.
I like rome because they brought substancial peace in a place dominated by petty wars and clannish violence.
We are not the same.
>>
>>18432272
>they brought substancial peace
Yes, through imperialism, slavery and cruelty.
>>
>>18431475
To be fair Britain’s ‘civilizing’ of the pajeets and Irish was a pretty shoddy job and didn’t really stick
>>
>>18432272
spaniards would say the same thing yet they are criticized for their imperialism
>>
>>18432272
spaniards would say the same thing, yet are still hated

plus we only know the perspective of the romans
we do not know the perspective if the barbarians were actually that warrish

Germans are barbarians though

I always assumed Roman history is popular because it's really easy to get into. It's very decently documented and it's way less complicated than any other empire's. So midwits get into it and then never get out of their comfort zone.

Skilled slaves were also property, as long as they were slaves.
