Maybe the Normans felt sorry for the Anglo Saxons after having thoroughly btfo them in a day. Both vikings and Normans couldn't do to the Irish what they did to the Anglo.

I don't know how that's most getting "butchered, downed or subjugated". It's not even the most common Viking y-DNA. It was far from a full population turnover or a wholly male migration but the Norse were tough and had established significant control over Ireland for a few centuries including all major port cities. On top of that, there was Irish back migration into Norway. Northern Norway had opened up due to some shifts in material culture and the (very, very Viking) Fairhair dynasty were Celtaboos. They had a very compatible culture and probably weren't enslaved there. The Viking wars on the island were brutal but it's ahistorical to act like the Irish were so above it, they got swarmed and rekt many times over like much of Britain elsewhere. Brian Boru was based though.
