>>18437654To be fair this was something basically every Romance language (and even some non-romance) did during that time period. It was part of the Enlightenment/Romantic belief that Roman Antiquity was good and logical and scientific and agreed with all my political views, while the Middle Ages were bad and illogical and superstitious and is what all my political opponents support. So obviously we should speak more like the Romans instead of icky Medieval people.
