The collapse of Byzantium was a monumental loss for Europe and Humanity as a whole. Think of a Hellenistic Egypt and Levant, a Latin North Africa, a majority Greek Anatolia. Byzantium would lead the world scientifically and culturally instead of Western Europe. Eastern Europe would be a lot advanced and wouldn't fall in endless conflicts. The Middle East would be a paradise. The holy land and crucial cities like Antioch, Alexandria and Carthage would remain Christian. Constantinople would be the wealthiest city in Europe and a cosmopolitan utopia.
