They even respected France so much that any soldier who raped French women was punished by death (the same cannot be said for the Russians). The Nazis did not have particularly Catholic ideals, I admit – but they did at least respect the existence of the Church/Christianity to some extent (unlike liberals and Jewish communists). Many people are still so brainwashed that “Nazis are literally devils who kill anyone, and Jews are innocent lambs who have done nothing.” It’s amazing how deep that brainwashing goes. The Judeo-Communist Freemasons hate the Catholic monarchy, so it is obvious that the Catholics supported Petain/Franco (both monarchists) rather than de Gaulle (a republican), and considered collaboration with Nazi Germany the lesser evil. So from the point of view of Catholic France, which Petain represented, he was a hero, not a traitor.

De Gaulle didn't represent the true France, he founded a rebel group and claimed to represent France.It's absurd to claim that Petain is a traitor. The French government officially surrendered and the Germans respected France so much that they let them have full control over the portion of France, which wasn't occupied, when they surrendered. They also let them have their fleet. There was no real French humilation. The Germans treated the French much nicer than the French treated the Germans during the brutal Rhineland occupation, where they intentionally humiliated Germany by using their Black Colonial troops and committed the sin of letting non-Whites have social dominance over other White people in Europe.
