The royal family were Yahwists, at least starting under the Omrides, and things went from there. The Jews were not colonizers, they were natives of the land. There are some other works too, but effectively Palestinian history as we know it begins in the Iron Age once they start to come back down from the highlands after the Bronze Age Collapse. Cities reappear, and a large kingdom is formed in the West Bank. Jerusalem is a very ancient city even then, but quite small. At one point or another Judah becomes its own polity, although like a vassal to the Israelites, Arameans, and others like the Egyptians or Babylonians.
