Why hasn't a single government in 2500 years conducted their public schools like the Republic; basically compulsory boarding schools at a young age keeping them away from their wretched parents for like a decade

We already partially do this.
>>
>most parents don't want to be away from their kids
>most kids don't want to be away from their parents
>said idea would be expensive as hell especially for a pre modern state
>entire thing would inevitably become a hot bed of fucked up shit just like any modern day orphanage

Kibbutzim in Israel did this.

This is a rabbit hole

Why would the people with the power to make that happen want their children mixing with the poors?
>>
didn't victorians do that?
>>
Because effectively separating parents from their children such that they end up spending more of their waking hours with strangers for most of their formative years is incredibly destructive to the family unit long term, and hence society as a whole.

That is by design. The state views the family and especially a tight knit extended family living locally in community as a competitor. Because having a strong support network means people aren't dependent on the state, which loosens their hold over people.
Creating an economy where most people are forced to have two incomes just to get by is part of this con.

Plato went even further than this though, saying even paternity should be concealed.
That everyone in his city wouldn't know who their real parents even are, and so would incline to treat everyone as if they were family.
While in principle this isn't too bad, in practice this wouldn't work for many reasons.

Observation of the behavior of the contemporary urban poor would suggest that the opposite occurs in the absence of the family unit, and that rather than treating everyone as family, people raised in such dissolute conditions lose the ability to form any positive social bonds with anyone else, and essentially become like wild animals.

People refuse to acknowledge the importance of blood relation.

Because it is, like the whole system described in that book, utterly retarded and completely ignores how humans actually works
It would only lead to dysfunctional people and weaker societies
