Our greatest misfortune is the fact that the dominant religion of our society is one that actively demands irrational belief from you.

Historically that has not been the case. If Pagans won, we would be free to try to understand the Gods in a rational manner and would not be ostracized from society, as long as we participated in rituals, which would be undistinguishable from any cultural holiday. In fact there wouldn't even really be "religion", it would just be an extension of our culture. This bifurcation of identity was introduced by Christians to convince followers that they don't have to become a "Roman" (keep in mind when Christianity spread, the Roman Empire was flooded by middle Eastern Immigrants, who were resentful of Rome and also Germanics, who were too proud and ethnically self-aware to want to give up their heritage)

No, because even the pagans had irrational beliefs about cause and effect. If I do this, the deity will do that. How can you actually prove this? There's no actual way to prove that sacrificing a bull or pouring out a libation makes a man up in the sky change the weather. It's a psychological pressure release valve and nothing more. The modern world is done with religion. We have empiricism, the scientific method, capitalism, liberalism, and secularism. We don't need state cults to bind us together any longer because we've overcome the biggest obstacles to our survival. It's time to stop being brown and get with the times. Your superstition is of no use.

Meanwhile in reality:
It's actual the Pagans themselves, who cautioned people against being superstitious, since that was frowned upon in a Pagan world.

>We have empiricism, the scientific method, capitalism, liberalism, and secularism.
Something we invented in the Renaissance, when the nobility started to read the Pagan Classics again without church supervision.

>We don't need state cults to bind us together any longer
We do actually.

Yeah, we took all the wisdom of the most intellectuals of the ancient world, the same ones who realized that people were retarded and deeply superstitious, and made that the basis of our modern paradigm. Congratulations.

In fairness at the time genesis was written, the Greeks also believed the world was flat. (Or sometimes a cylinder with everything we know on the flat side) With an underground underworld and surrounded by an infinite ocean
