What do you know about it? What's your opinions on it now the dust has settled?
Was it all worth it?

Recently bought a book on the eastern front, once I'm done with it I might look for stuff on the caucaus front. Read a good one about the Koeingsburg, a german warship, about 20 years ago but cant seem to find it anymore

everyone was in the right in this war, but it was still worth fighting. when wars start you have to fight them. it's the task of politicians and diplomats to not start wars uneccessarily. ww1 didn't have to happen.

falkenhayn was the best central powers leader. history has done him dirty. he realized germanys impossible situation and did not let visions of grandeur get the best of him.

Verdun was objectively a massive retarded fuckup, Falkenhayn should never have been chief of the general staff.
>>
>>18448043
The politicians were hardly involved, as military plans were considered too important to tell anyone about until they had already been sprung. The Schliffen plan was probably the single most retarded act of the war, on top of a huge pile of retarded acts.

General Haig was the worst British general and its not even close.
>Cavalry will save us!
>Machine guns are overrated!
>Walk slowly toward the enemy positions!
>More bombardment means more gooder!
People will defend this numbnuts for some reason.
The correct move in 1914 was to radiomax, blimpmax, and gasmax from the very beginning. Infantry spamming was absolutely criminal and set European divilization back at least 20s. The Anarchists of the 1900s were unironically right about everything, and tried to prevent the whole thing.

It was a consequence of a process that started when the capetian kings started accumulating practical and symbolic power that culminated in the centralized monopoly of power of the Modern State later adopted in all of Europe.

The critical facet of this was the substitution of the aristocratic way of politics spread through Europe by the Mediterraneans (specially Rome) that kept the peace and limited power of each aristocrat in an ideal of an public equalility between all of them inside their "republic", later Res Publica Christiana.

The endless accumulation of power, wealth and competition prompted by the paranoia of the immaterial, de-personalized State, later the "nation" and "people", created the arms race in Europe that's hard to know when it started, but had already gathered strenght with the hundred years war, wars of religion, the colonial wars, the napoleonic wars, then finally the two world wars.

If Fernand Braudel was still alive I would suck his very, very longue durée.

the more i read about ww1 the more i feel that the central powers are just filled with tragic figures. franz joseph basically spending his entire life looking over an empire that was endlessly dying, kaiser wilhelm being torn between his anglophilic parents and his prussian nationalist grandad--it eventually led to him building a huge military to show off german strength and to impress the british, only to start an arms race. he was the last power that was aiming for war in the july crisis--he actually supported a british peace conference between austria-hungary and serbia--but france and russia mobilizing their troops put him to action. apparently he would spend the war just having tantrums and nervous breakdowns. definitely a doofus but idk a very sad one.

the one that takes the case for me has to be ludendorff. apparently he was an autistic german his whole life until he met a widow who fell in love with him in middle age. he took her sons as his own and doted on them. when they both died in the war he wrote in his diary "no matter what the outcome of this war shall be, i will still have lost everything."

so fucking sad.

>>Walk slowly toward the enemy positions!
No mans land was literally miles long in some places and if everyone just broke into a dead sprint the second they went over the top they'd exhaust themselves.
Not to mention some men would just naturally be faster than others and would reach the enemy too quickly and instantly die. The media has completely misrepresented WW1 combat to the point where people aren't even aware that they were performing actual field tactics such as positioning grenadiers at the flanks to flush out trenches before the infantry pushed in, instead of just “GO GET EM GUYS!!!!”
>radiomax
Radios were in their infancy and rarely worked, not to mention they required easily destructible towers.
>blimpmax,
Pointless outside of terror weapon
>and gasmax
Didn't have the tech to properly deploy and was not even a think outside of tear gas
>Infantry spamming was absolutely criminal
Didn't happen

The American flue scored more kills in the conflict than the US expeditionary troops.
