European and probably western culture as it exists right now is doomed to fail, it's only a matter of time, and it's obvious to see for anyone willing to admit it (even for some who consider that a good thing). Hitler is seen as a point of diversion, where the west could have evolved into something radically different and, just possibly, sustainable. If the modern west was viable to continue existing, people wouldn't be looking to some failed radical ideology for guidance.Mind you, that radically different thing would indeed be barely recognizable and probably not worth living in for the average modern european. So in a sense, stalin did save european culture as it exists in 1940+86 - for the short time that it will still continue to exist now.
