Have humans degenerated since the middle ages?

King Alfred wad a chad warrior king who translated st.Augustine's Soliliquoys from Latin to 'English'

I can't name a modern politician who would do something similar.

No, you're just a retard.

See what Alfred said about his own people in his time. Hue mans are a contemptible lot.

I wouldn't say it was that far back. Arguably the 1800's or the inter-war period. I genuinely don't have a cause or mechanism of action to point to for this phenomenon.

We used to have a lot more polymaths. Would you say its just that every field has progressed so far that it takes 100% of your attention to master something?

Forgot relevant pic.

I somewhat doubt the accuracy of pic related.

Surely Nixon knew other languages as well for example.

We've been declining since the Hyperborean Golden Age circa 40,000 BC.

"Polymaths" are an early modern myth. Life in general moved a lot slower back then and people's work was way more spread out than today. It took decades in 1750 to do the same amount of work that an average man can do in a couple of years even without technology, because we live in a society that pressures acheivementmaxxing to a degree that just didn't happen back then. Obviously the lives of the likes of Isaac Newton were heavily romanticized after his death but the relative amount of achievement over his entire lifetime is not exceptional
