What was the moment where the movement finally gave up and went home? What happened to some of it's most radical supporters?

To start off, after the end of reconstruction in the 1870s, the south became dominated by the democrats for the next century, where the local branches of the democratic party governed as de-facto one party states, who used a mix of political machines and pork barrel to enforce their rule. Under such system however, since there was no opposition, the elections were for show, and all the real disputes happened within the primaries and party convetions. Bear in mind that most of the national dixiecrats like George Wallace or Strom Thurmond were primarely populists or political opportunists who supported Segregation less for personal reasons, but because it was what it got them votes with their southern constituents, as Wallace said, when he talked about good roads and education, nobody cared, but when started talking about niggers everyone stomped the floor. However, by the 1970s, with the conservative shift of the republican party, the decay of the New Deal political machines and federal enforcement of civil rights, segregation was no longer a winning position and the democrats were no longer the party of the south.

Wow, informative answer. Thanks Anon!
So what happened to most of these guys? I know they lived for a while after their hey-day. Shit, David Duke is alive and well in my home state.

Segregation is still felt in the southern U.S., the segregationists just haven't been as open and explicit in their language and direct policies. When LBJ enacted civil rights legislation, a lot of "Dixie dems" started distancing from the party but were scooped up over the years by Nixon, Reagan, and the political movements sponsored by conservative thinktanks. These later movements also tried to focus on additional ideologies rather than the direct assistance the Democratic Party provided to these regions. "We'll stomp on the coons and fix your roads" became "we'll stop DEI (basically code for the coons) and woke."

DEI is code for "everyone except for straight white men".

Will libtards ever stop deluding themselves into thinking that giving certain races preferential treatment is the "anti-racist" position.

In the north they simply shifted their policy towards legally gray forms like urban planning or gated communities.

In the south, they became recucklicans after LBJ sold out the southern Dixiecrats who voted for him under the assumption that he wouldn't pass the nigger bill.

Kek. Reminds me of the DOGE deposition interviews where they can't define woke so they just sort of imply that it's a catch-all term for brown people and faggots.

Based on every observable case globally, and no matter how bad it gets, no. They will not anon.

Patriots.

LBJ destroyed this country and perhaps black Americans most of all.

Who are you talking about? I don't see anyone acting like that

You fail to understand that a lot of modern academia is wrought with French post-structuralist residue that won't go away. Its not to say that Foucault was wrong about certain things nor Derrida being an obscurantistic subjectivist is the only way peer reviewed research gets published.

amerimutts and Italian ones definetly are NOT white.

Well to use the Schools as an example in-depth, They just switched to code words and loopholes. At first they didn't know what to do, and when the sky didn't fall, the earth didn't open, and the ocean didn't swallow the land when they were integrated, they lost a lot of clout So they entered a period of long steady decline. First they tried to create "religious" schools that would "coincidently" only allow in white students. But this backfired and merely walled them off from the vast majority of the community, further eroding their power, until American Public Schools reached their highest levels of integration in the 1990's (this is also when American schools reached their highest achievement levels). So they switched tactics. Instead of walling themselves off from the school system, they would try to fragment it into de-facto segregated pieces. Thus "Segregated Schools" was replaced first with "Year-Round" until that was replaced with "Charter", while simultaneously leading a mass movement to defund public education thus making their alternative schools look better for those who could afford to send their kids to them. And what do you know it just so happens that White parents are far more likely to be able to afford that than Black parents. Now schools are again as segregated as they were in the 70's, and American education achievement has reached abysmal levels.
