In 1941 their army was still in no position to mount an offensive, and as history has shown, they struggled for over a year. Heck, there were more British tanks defending Moscow than Soviet ones!

The USSR not collapsing early and the Axis failing to reach the AA line sealed the latter's fate. By the time Fall Blau was launched the Soviets already moved their industry to Siberia and the lend-lease kept pouring in.

NSDAP leaders were too old to understand that advances in agricultural technology rendered land far less valuable and necessary for food production than before. They believed they needed massive amounts of farmland for food self-sufficiency but they really didn't. Modern Germany is food self-sufficient.

This way they didn't have to rebuild barracks and other peacetime infrastructure.They did wargame a preventive wat in 1941 and decided they can't win it, they would still probably attack a year or two later, but the general laziness caused things like majority of the tank force being in absolute shit condition(poorly maintained, no spare parts), because duh we're getting replacements soon.

They wanted Ukrainian wheat and the oil from the Caucasus. Taking over Poland didn't really give them the natural resource security they thought they needed, it just gave them some more coal and farmland.
