The only indigenous element of the Crimea henceforth were the dual-faith Tats (Not Tatars) of south Crimea, these Tats were further obligated to drop Christian elements amongst themselves for increased Islamization because of the previous event but also because of the situation of the Muslim population in comparison to the Orthodox Christian settlers, the Muslims were considered state peasants instead of Serfs like the Orthodox peasants, and as such were in fact privileged over them. Any Muslim in the Crimea that converted to Orthodoxy lost their status as state peasantry. It would be more apt, and the map in fact admits this, that the situation would be described as an anti-Tatar policy, as the migrations primarily targeted the steppe dwellers, and in the case of the Nogais in the mainland they were in fact forcefully removed and massacred from those lands. The steppe dwellers who were nomadic or of nomadic origin were seen as unproductive and the Russian government sought to replace them with colonists, often of different religious sects such as the Germans, so that the land may become more productive. The situation in Circassia is also hard to call anti-Islamic. as the Circassians were in fact pagan or even Orthodox Christian before Russian imperial actions. The Circassians rapidly Islamized in reaction and to set themselves apart from the Russian imperialists.In both cases Russia is in fact an agent, even if unintentionally, of Islamization.
