>Territories promised to Italy by the Treaty of London (1915), i.e. Trentino-Alto Adige, the Julian March and Dalmatia (tan), and the Snežnik Plateau area (green). Dalmatia, after WWI, however, was not assigned to Italy but to Yugoslavia.

So the Italians ignored their existing alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary, dithered about doing nothing for years while the real countries fought in hell on earth and hundreds of thousands to millions died

Then Italy flips sides, performs mediocre as fuck despite fighting a starving exhausted enemy.

Is given 99% of its promised lands for their paltry war effort, but became rthey didn’t get “Dalmatia” AKA some random coastal islands, it’s deemed a “mutilated victory” because the Italians died for nothing (whereas if they gained Dalmatia those Italians died for good reason I guess)

All this is enough to drive Italy into the arms of fascism,

Why could the Italian state/democratic system cope with the fascist movement under Mussolini? If the king simply didn’t gig in and appoint him would Mussolini have been able to succeed in his march on Rome?

A defensive alliance. AH and Germany started the War. Italy wasnt forced to join

>If the king simply didn’t gig in and appoint him would Mussolini have been able to succeed in his march on Rome?
No the army would had destroyed the marching fascist. Mussolini bet everything on a bluff and somehow worked.

Stil to this day its unknown why King Victor Emanuel III didnt signed the mass arrest of the marching fascist.
The most popular theory is that the top capitalists of the country convinced him Mussolini could be used and controlled as a tool to purge the communists from the country

>A defensive alliance
Nope, it involved other obligation.
>Germany, Bulgaria, the ottoman turkish and AH started the War.
Fixed.

>Promised to Italy
Nope, they weren't; both France and UK said they wouldn't prevent the Kingdom of Italy from seizing them and would assistant them in case of a conflit.
Despite the, debunked and nonsensical, revisionism, the Kingdom of Italy wasn't tricked.
On the contrary, the Kingdom of Italy and Great Britain colluded with the disgusting turkish nationalist to, unsuccessfully, attack Greece and France after 1918.

I remember learning of the Greco-Turkish war and it was literally just sour grapes from all the western powers because they couldnt hold onto any Turkish land so wanted to make sure the gayreeks couldnt either
