It's not Mark Antony, it's Marcus AntoniusIt's not Ptolemy, it's PtolemaiosIt's not Constantine, It's ConstantinusIt's not Plato, it's PlatonEveryone else gets called by their actual names, why is it just famous Greeks and Romans we refuse to give the same courtesy?
>>18452483We don’t call “everyone else” by their “actual names”. We say Jesus rather than Yeshua, John rather than Yochanan.
>>18452484I forgot about that. That's dumb too.
>>18452485It’s something all languages do because it would be troublesome otherwise
>>18452487Uh, why? Someone's name is someone's name, where did we get this idea we should just change it...because?
>>18452491Because it’s more difficult to pronounce.
>>18452492Do speechlets really? What is difficult about saying Yeshua? Or anything I listed?
>>18452483Yeah that's why you call her Jean d'Arc at all times, right? I know you do, you wouldn't be a hypocrite would you?
>>18452505>-letYou're already retarded. Stop letting this website rot your brain.
>>18452512>sian dahk
I actually prefer this. It should be>Michael Hidalgo, not Miguel Hidalgo>Nicholas Tesla, not Nikola Tesla>Benedict Mosuli, not Benito Mussolini
>>18452483>Everyone else gets called by their actual names, why is it just famous Greeks and Romans we refuse to give the same courtesy?Tradition

>>18452483He wasn't called "Saladin".
>>18452997How about emperor Akbar?
words get twisted and evolve over millenia. A german could ask>why do you say "hound" instead of "hund"and englisman would ask opposite
>>18452999He wasn't an Arab, Rajesh.
>>18452483>Marcus Antonius>Ptolemaios>Constantinus>PlatonWe use these except for Constantinus in my slavshit language. Hearing people call Platon play-doh in English is hilarious. Btw it's Aristoteles, Aristotle sounds like some guy with down syndrome trying to talk about philosophy lol.
>>18453004There aren't words, they're proper names. They're not generic, they're specific.
>>18452483It would end up like Greek translations if not standardized>ptolemy>tolemy>tolemi>ptolymi>phhtalyomy>psalami
English used to translate names but stopped at some point in the 19th/20th centuries, so figures who were well known in the English-speaking world before that have their names translated
>>18452483These are customary names given to them like 500+ years ago(mostly to roll off the tongue more easily when spoken), you're not confused about who are we talking about so why bother.
Still wondering how the Jews got "Ishua" from "Apollonius". With the Baha'i, at least "Balinus" makes sense.
>>18453783Never mind. Yeshua apparently is symbolic for "savior". That is reasonable.

>>18452483You know english isn't the only language that does this right?
>>18452513Answer the question at hand, you evasive little rat.
>>18453253its the same principle. Look at cities, lets say London. you do agree that even though London is proper name and shouldnt change, it changed over millenia?
