We talk a lot about the Stab-in-the-Back "theory" (myth), but why not about Mutilated Victory? The Italians got fucked over hard by Wilson despite being a member of the Allies.

People weren't well-disposed toward them. It'd be one thing in Italy entered the war and then fought very well and helped bring it to an end much faster, but their ultimate victory over Austria was not even a result of their own efforts. AH imploded due to a crisis, while they were actually winning the war against Italy, and it was only due to this fortuitous circumstance that Italy (with help from its allies) managed to win the day.Italy fought some very bloody battles against Austria-Hungary, but the perception in France and Britain was that Italy had bungled by far the easiest front in the war, against the weakest of the central powers, and had required a military commitment from both France and the UK (and a token American regiment even) to throw back the Austrian army that was knocking at the gates of Italy. So the rest of the Allied Powers felt that Italy had done very poorly in the war, and wasn't deserving of rich rewards.

Regular reminder that Wilson was not an all-powerful dictator of Versailles. He had to compromise with French nationalists who wanted to draw the borders of Europe to benefit themselves and their eastern European allies (Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Yugoslavia)

They had two low points on the Eastern Front, the start of the war and the Brusilov offensive, but other than that tbey were reliable against Russia and played a crucial role in all of the major offensives. And against Italy they were always reliable until all of the Central Powers collapsed in 1918. Definitely the most useful ally Germany had by far.
