Nobody ever talks about Chernenko and AndropovWhat were they like?
>andropovcapitalist roader who would have lead to collapse even faster>chernenkobrezhnevite stagnationmaxxer who would have lead to collapse even faster
>>18458169A harsh reformer who realised the root, but died too soon. He's notorious for introducing labour discipline and paving the way for Gorbachev. Under him, the police often raiding cinemas searching for slackers skipping work.
Andropov could have been Soviet Deng if he had lived longer. He believed in reforming the economy while keeping the political system stable.
>>18458169maybe cuz they died in like 2 weeks lol
>>18458227Andropov actually made a number of major decisions during his short term. Chernenko just failed to follow up on any of them. Gorbachev was actually close with Andropov and Andropov had personally trusted him to be his successor but while Andropov made pragmatic reforms, Gorbachev went full retard
>>18458169If you want to read about it, give a try to "Autopsy for an Empire: The Seven Leaders Who Built the Soviet Regime", by Dmitri Volkogonov
>>18458169Tankie kids be like“The USSR in 1970s was revisionist and Andropov was a capitalist roader who tore apart the USSR”But also“Eastern European baby boomers want 1970s era Russia back. That is proof Commubism is a success!”
>>18458169>AndropovPragmatic reformer which didn't live long enough. There's a CIA brief that assesses his leadership and which claims that the Union would've probably survived another decade or 2 if he was alive. His policies were essentially to curb corruption (which was a massive problem and completely fcuked the economy by destroying incentives), to bring back genuine planning and combat parasitic work practices, and replace the older party cadres with a new generation of technocratic ones. He was also interested in bringing about modest market reforms but we'll never know given that he died shortly after taking office. Most of the new generation which came after him (like Gorbachev) were puppils of his who became disillusioned with reforms>ChernenkoLiterally did nothing, except for attempting to rehabilitate Stalin.
