>learning french by actively engaging in french literature It's the best way, anons.
>>18462168I am French and I'd say that french litterature is pretty arrogant compared to other countries. However it is a really good way to learn French since the vocabulary is in better shape than the current spoken FrenchTell me if you have any questions btw
>>18462179Arrogance is the premier trait among the french people.
>>18462194Ah, quel compliment resplendissant.
>>18462168I really liked the two Baudelaire poems I've dragged myself through.
>>18462179Best way to get started? Only know English
Why are there so many francophiles here? Seems a tad suspicious.
>>18462168Learning other languages is pointless now that we have LLMs
>>18462168Learning through input only is a misleading path, you'll need to practice output too if you want to actually "speak" it. >>18462621I genuinely cannot comprehend people who think like this. How utterly boring- are you whipping out fucking ChatGPT at a pub or a live event in a foreign country just to talk to people?
>>18462609Clearly we should all be reading Von Jurgenheims seminal masterpiece Siegen-Großwerke-Vorstelungtungtungsahurenschaft on 17th century Pomeranian porridge recipes and why they provide a perfect blueprint to exterminate the Sorbians.
>>18462687It will take you years to be able to really speak to people that way. Just have ChatGPT translate and read it. Minutes instead of years.
>>18462699Depends on the language and your own skills, but French is easily conversationable within 9 months, that's what I did and I'm not particularly smart or gifted in anything. I bet Spanish speakers can learn to a B1 level in 6 months or less.Obviously there's a power gap between speaking at an academic university level vs shooting the shit with your French coworker about boobs and football, but the idea that learning languages is this colossal undertaking is just nonsense.
>>18462699>just let the computer think and speak for you!
>>18463117Post vocaroo of your French
>>18462694Yes unironically
>>18462605Don't go for too old books at first even if you are very interested in some of them. Why ? Because French compared to italian is very very different from a century to an other. You probably shouldn't go any further than books from the 18th century because the language is so different past this date that you will just be unable to speak and understand usual french. Also, I wouldn't advise you french litterature post 1980s-1990s because most of the books are just a bunch of bullshit for wealthy little white girls except for some gems but they get drown in the giant autobiography-criticism bullshit storm. You should probably go for books like "L'étranger" d'Albert Camus or some short stories from Maupassant. Both are very great, and will help you with french.
