fair point

No. It was held in private collection since the time of Christ. In the 1400s it was purchased by the house of savoy for two castles. It only recently became Church property in the 1980s when former king of italy bequeathed it to the holy see in his will, and over its entire history has only been publicly displayed a handful of times.

>trying to deflect this hard from the fact that the church did pretend for centuries it was genuine
>>
>>18466075
It is genuine. Atheists will constantly cite that one study from the 1980s, but that's already been debunked. The Church hasn't called it a fraud either. That's why they still put it on display.

The Church has never pronounced one way or another, as the shroud is not a matter of faith. That being said the shroud is in fact genuine. The image was only discovered in 1898 when the first photograph was taken, because it really only shows up in the negatives.

The image is made from radiological disturbances two microns thick and are from an ultraviolet power source that would be technologically impossible to forge even with the most modern technology today given how much energy would be required to be emitted by ultraviolet lasers, let alone by a medieval forger working with primitive tools
>>
>>18466077
well, the church does not claim it is genuine _now_, and we are talking about an organization that believes such rot as gods, magic and immaterial souls, so the bar is rather low.
>>
>>18465117
That's some freak ass arms and hands. But I suppose Jesus being an alien makes sense
>>
>>18466092
So how was it made? Would it normally be 2 microns thick if it were laid on a dead body?
>>
>>18466359
The uncreated light of God energized Jesus and raised him from the dead. It's the same event as witness on Tabor when all of his clothing was made as white as the light, the purest white you'll ever have seen in your life, and yet it does not hurt the eyes. We have pretty good evidence that this cloth was the Mandylion, initially folded up, that was taken out of Constantinople by the Crusaders.

>first defend the catholic church by saying that they never said it was real
>then revealing that he himself thinks that the shroud is real and using his apologetics bullshit for that
christian motte and bailey

Relics like this make me worry about idolatry but I think as long as you aren't pinning all your faith on it, it's a fine recreational belief additive. Jesus Christ be praised.

It's different people, you dumb atheist. Have you masturbated so much that God has cursed you with retardation?

The image was known since the first records of the shroud in 1400.

This is because the image on the shroud is more like a video of the resurrection, there are multiple frames on the shroud. Jesus was moving during the imprinting onto the cloth (during the Resurrection), leaving a kind of motion blur from moving his hand

If you examine the cloth around the hands you can see multiple hand positionings, this is because Christ changed the positioning of both his hands while the ultraviolet burst of sorts was taking place.
