Radical nationalism ruins nations because it turns a country from a society of individuals into a tribal collective where the citizen exists to serve the “nation” instead of the other way around. Once loyalty to the tribe becomes the highest value, reason, competence, and individual rights get pushed aside.

These movements usually centralize power, suppress dissent, glorify sacrifice, and blame outsiders or minorities for internal failures. Political loyalty starts mattering more than merit. Economically they drift toward protectionism, cronyism, state favoritism, and heavy control over industry, which slowly destroys innovation and productivity. Productive people either leave, stay quiet, or become politically dependent.

They also tend to become obsessed with national pride and historical destiny instead of reality. A government can’t fix economic collapse, corruption, or bad policy by waving flags harder. Eventually the country becomes poorer, more authoritarian, and more isolated because emotional tribalism replaced rational self-interest and freedom
