Why do people always say this to minimize Alexander’s accomplishments. Philip literally lost battles with that same army and it’s not like Alexander had no part in the building of that army. He took part in many battles under Philip and furthermore, the army that fought in Gaugamela was vastly different with various skirmishers and much more cavalry.

They are just people trying to be contrarians. Alexander could be reborn right now as their neighbour, bring whatever nation they love in to glory, and they would still be skeptical. Internet addicts have personality issues where they seek to always undermine anything more successful than themselves

If he’d had had to spend years putting together the army and a competent officer corps like his dad did then he’d be too old or dead for the Persian campaign. Just because he stood on the shoulders of a giant doesn’t mean he wasn’t a giant himself.

Maybe Alexander's importance was more esoterical and spiritual than just simply warfare. Not that they are not intertwined, but its a more elevated significance which is why he is remembered more than his daddy.

Alexander was peak Western masculinity. A little gay, yes, but still pretty peak
