The slavery question was one of the primary reasons for the Texas War of Independence. The Texans wanted to have slaves. The Mexicans were opposed to slavery.The Texans didn’t really independence; they wanted to be a part of the US and so, when Mexico did not recognize Texas, the US intervened on the Texan side.

This is the most underrated war in American history. It deserves a large portion of the copious attention that is given to the American Civil War. The United States successfully occupying Mexico City should be a more well-known fact. The Duke of Wellington was so impressed with it that he called Winfield Scott the greatest living general.
