This isn't the first study we have that shows there was a structure of matrilinealism and matrifocality, and to cope and say that this isn't really matriarchal is the same as saying a society that is patrilocal and patrilineal isn't patriarchal.. So the Indo-Europeans weren't patriarchal.

But the question is why? Why weren't they patriarchal? Its over.

Matrilocal =/= matriarchal
>the academic feminist search for historical precedent that appears to paint them as functional and sane among illiterate tribes whose records can't fight back continues

Not only matrilocal, but also matrilineal and matrilocal. Yes

>Defeating someone, marrying their daughter, and annexing their lands is matriarchal
Wow I never knew Mehmet II such a feminist

Why is everyone defending that British tramp who failed against Rome and calling it one of the greatest rebellions?
>>
>>18477935
>failed
She did lose in the end but the damage she did razing cities and eradicating a legion was probably a significant event in leading to the britons never properly romanising

no "damage" occurred

Boudica grip strength vs average Roman soldier

Matriarchy cannot exist as long as men hold any sort of physical advantage over women.
>>
>le gaels were matriarchal
Why do these LARPers ignore the fact that Gaelic society treated women worse than the english conquerors did, with women being second class citizens at best?
Why do taigs pretend gaelic society was le feminist utopia?
>>
>>18477935
Boudica has been British national hero for centuries, that's why. It seems like you're just mad that you don't have anyone as cool as her.
>>
>>18478436
A large amount of people who romanticize gaels are protestant "irish americans" aka ulster scotch. So the same ethnic variety as you.
>>
>>18478436
The DNA study was not about Gaels.

the tweet literally says the study aligned with "gaelic" mythology and pretended that le gaelic ireland was a feminist utopia

And I'm sure some in this thread would go as far as reviving "Celtic from the West" if it meant the Irish could be disparaged a little better with whatever slander can be invented for Celts.
Others are salivating over the opportunity to attack Indo-Europeans more generally. (See the OP)

Mythology that nobody understands anymore is probably the weakest argument anyone could come up with. It's the same myopic perspective that would cause one to judge the status of women in Japanese society by how powerful women are in anime. It's also the kind of literalism that would cause one to believe transgenderism was common and promoted in Norse society because there's that one story where Loki cross-dresses. Instead of simply accepting these as fantastic stories with a very loose relationship to the real world, they are now ammunition against one's perceived enemies. The motivations are transparent.

Some details are known about the status of women in Gaelic society, and a quick comparison reveals that early Irish law and the Laws of Manu are almost exactly the same regarding women. It is immediately obvious that this treatment of women is reconstructible back to the Corded Ware culture at least which allows us to see that this cultural element has remained consistent since Proto-Indo-European was spoken all the way until Christianity came to Ireland and beyond.
