I simply can't understand or reconcile how pretty much all humans for hundred of thousands years were basically religious. That they simply believed in some spiritual system made up by someone and it simplified their lives down to a point that allowed them to avoid most if not all existential turmoil. And this went on for such a long time. Then all of a sudden some people started finding out about all this science stuff and now everyone has to be suffering in a confused nihilistic state.I feel people always have strong opinions on religion in terms of it being good or bad. But they never seem to step back and examine it as just being a very bizarre thing.
>>18477564>they simply believed in some spiritual system made up by someoneThe good thing about pagans is that they didn't believe a scam made up by anyone in particular, it was a decentralised culture that was collectively developed over millennia. I think there's no shame in that.
>>18477564Our evolutionary advantage over animals is that we are born as blank slates. Instead of pre-programmed instincts, humans learn everything from scratch, from their parents and environment. This is both good because it makes our minds extremely flexible and leads to civilizational progress, and also bad because we don't gave any kind of natural defense against brainwashing. You can't tame tigers, but you can easily tame entire human populations into believing any horseshit you want.
>>18477564You would've been religious if you were taught religion was real. You aren't religious because you were taught religion isn't real. It's that simple.
>>18477564>m-muh existential crisis realizing I'm a brain in a meat suit and blah blah blah>btw the science⢠says nothing matters and this is all a fucking chemical reactionYou're just a neurotic, overly mechanized retard propagandized from youth into your own belief system.
>>18477574That is entirely false. All brains are programmed including humans. And many species learn from their parents parents group members.
>>18478224Those are both correct. That's really self aware to acknowledge those facts you're in denial of.
>>18477564How is it bizarre? We are born knowing nothing, in a world of darkness and uncertainty, and we fucking love stories, routines and rituals. We also love believing in whatever bullshit other people tell us so long as we like them. Put those factors together and you have all the necessary ingredients to believe in random made up nonsense and turn it into a system.
>>18477564Because atheism is not normal, the only reason atheists exist Toda is because of TV Brainwashing.People in ancient times have always practiced sorceries though you now call it science.
>>18478383>Those are both correct.Says who? Your jewish scientists? The only thing a neuroscientist has ever proven is that the brain supervenes on mental states and nothing else. Consciousness and brain activity are qualitatively different. There's no point in conflating the two.
