Regardless of Gods' existence, what is your opinion on the moral principles outlined in the New Testament? Do you think they have some value or do you think they are worthless for our postmodern society?
>>18481386Its alright at points (love ur neighbour) but completely unsustainable at other points (divorce completely banned 100%, unless you're reading luke where an exception for infidelity is added which is still not enough), biggest problem with this as a work of philosophy is that none of it is justified in any real capacity other than interpretations of Jewish scripture at best and "because I said so" at worst, even if you agree with Jesus 100% on a topic, you can't really use his words as justification because if someone very sensibly and in good faith asks "how come?" you have no answers.
>>18481389So it's basically mostly worthless in philosophical value is what you're saying
>>18481386>Do you think they have some value or do you think they are worthless for our postmodern society?Altruism in general has very obvious value to a society, but the kind of shortsighted self-destructive short term altruism as preaches by Jesus is at best ineffective and at worst could be said to be actually doing more harm than good by pulling from productive members of society
I don't really understand why you believe a postmodern society is a goal. A postmodern society is one in which nobody has any connection with one another, and no laws can be created (because of no shared values). This will then lead to corruption and authoritarianism. As for the lessons of the new testament, they are mixed (from what I have read of them). I think the core ethos in the principles are admirable, but some have been corrupted. My belief is that people focus too much on the mere material facts about Christianity (not to say this is a bad thing, and not the mystical elements. And from that I'm coming to the conclusion that the Christian ethos may actually be true. But if we strip back Christianity even more (to that of a mythology), then we have ourselves certain lessons that are extremely useful in life. In a similar way to Homer, you can use certain characters and characteristics to understand the way through life, even if you don't believe in the mystical form of Christianity. So the Bible is in my opinion, a text that should be extremely important to any society, independent of religion.

>>18481400Yes, unless you're concerned with the history of how ideas spread.>>18481404>think the core ethos in the principles are admirable, but some have been corrupted. Why do you assume that if something is not agreeable, it mustc have been teansmitted wrong, instead od the oryginalny being in error
>>18481404I personally don't care for this suoyciety but the New Testament doesn't do anything good for it, and in my opinion, is a relic of the past
>>18481386If there is no resurrection, the moral principles of the New Testament are personally disastrous.
