As they themselves are brown skinned and not white, they must rely on religious and political leanings to identify with what they view to be the "ideal" human: the white man. They therefore consider how this ideal human relates to the world, and due to their anachronistic understanding of Europeans they view them as Catholic and part of Christendom, aka Western civilization. As the Indian is non-white, colonized, and pagan, they share no recent links to Europeans and are therefore at the bottom of this hierarchy. Even the Muslims themselves use this discourse to disparage Indians online, claiming that at least they worship the God of Abraham. The truth is, it's easier to call an opponent an Indian in the mind of these brown-skinned radicals because they cannot perceive anyone of their "ideal" race opposing what they view as the foundation of their culture and civilization. Thus the Indian is turned into a modern political demon, the very antithesis of the white man and "enemies of the West".
