Which Byzantine Empire is your favorite? I find the Byzantines to be super underrated and kino, anyone else feel the same? Such a shame they were extinguished by Turkoids
I like them as a Greek national state. I get annoyed when people try to pretend they were "Roman". They were their own thing, a Greek Orthodox state, the progenitor to the entirety of Eastern Europe as we know it today. But they were NOT Roman. They shed everything that made Rome Rome. Continuity is not an argument.
At no point was the Byzantine Empire stronger than under the Macedonian Dynasty. Their territorial conquests were so great, you doubt whether this is even still the Byzantine Empire or something else. Like a precursor of the Ottomans. The second place is the Nicean Empire. They were great, until they retook the capital and it all went downhill from there.
Latin Empire... such kino... died too soon...
so did they do anything great other than greek fire and conquering land to later lose it?
>>18482449They preserved the classics, without Byzantines you wouldn't know about 80% of ancient Greek/Roman literature
>>18482278>Macedonian Dynasty.Peak Byzantine, it's absolute pure kino. They were a dominant world power and it's collapse is a tragedy.
>>18482126The only reason you say that is because you're biased by the Western conception of Rome. Even use of the term Byzantine is improper. The Eastern Roman Empire is the continued evolution of classical Rome, in all respects until the Latin Empire. Had the Eastern Roman Empire collapsed and the Western Roman Empire survived, retained its institutions but evolved into something more culturally Germanic, it would still be Rome.
>>18482524In my view Western Rome fell to invasion in the 5th century, it was not suceeded by anything (Papacy, Charlemagne, etc are not Rome), and Eastern Rome fell in the 7th century when they lost almost all non-Greek territories, centralized around a Greek core, abandoned all use of Latin, and became a Greek nation state. One of the principle drivers of a connection to Rome in my view is Latin. Greek was always a prestige dialect within Rome, but it was never the sole language of everything, including the sole legal language. At the point Byzantium made that change they stopped being Rome in my eyes and started being a Greek nation state.
>>18482106>Which Byzantine Empire is your favorite?None. The Byzantines piss me off, as they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot and fucked themselves over again and again and again. It's astounding they lasted as long as they did, being such backstabbing dumbasses.
>>18482126>But they were NOT Roman. They shed everything that made Rome Rome. You could say the exact same thing about the transition from mid-republican Rome to the Principate.A state going through major transitions over the centuries does not make it stop being the same state.
>>18482524>Even use of the term Byzantine is improper.I think we should really be calling it the Constantinopolitan Empire
>>18482575it is so strange that a state which existed for 1000 years was pretty much always in decline for that period
>>18482536Well that’s just oversimplistic essentialism. If America stopped using English tomorrow, it would stop being America. If China stopped using Chinese tomorrow, it would stop being China.
>>18482606I feel Amedica abandoned the principles it was founded on centuries ago. Legally changing all law to be in Spanish would be the final nail in the coffin, yes.
>>18482503did they write anything themselves?
>>18482126low iq
>>18482578>latin ethnic, latin speaking, using latin for law republic becomes latin ethnic, latin speaking, using latin for law empirevslatin ethnic, latin speaking, using latin for law empire becomes greek ethnic, greek speaking, using greek for law empireThese are not the same thing. One is a change in the system of government, the other is a change of their DNA.
>>18482639Half of Italy were ethnic Greeks and half the empire spoke Greek even when the capital was Rome.
>>18482645And you don't see the difference between that and the empire being SOLELY reduced to the Greek speaking part and ceasing to use Latin in any capacity?
>>18482126>Continuity is not an argument. So if you move to a new country and convert to a different religion you become a completely different person?
>>18482653There is no way you can change your ethnicity, language, and religion and still be the same person, no.
>>18482126They hated him because he told the truth
>>18482106They weren't that great. Enlightened up until the late twelfth century, after which it was stagnant. Romaboos and pseudo historians treat it like it was paradise on Earth when really it was a shithole.
>>18482575>as they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot and fucked themselves over again and again and againLike the Roman republic and empire with constant civil war and economical collapses btw
>>18482582It was not beyond you thinking or fanfic
>>18482126>They shed everything that made Rome RomeElaborate ? or will be just you bullshit, Rome itself is not something ''i like so it is good'', it is much more complex than just fanboy opinion
>>18482716I do not converse with Frenchmen, I am sorry.
>>18482721kekI wonder why Fr*nch people are too lazy to delete their extra spaces before punctuation marks when typing in English.
>>18482536>In my view Western Rome fell to invasion in the 5th centuryThanks, mr obvious>it was not suceeded by anything (Papacy, Charlemagne, etc are not Rome)Suceeded but the East or just a continuation of what already existed, nothing new>and Eastern Rome fell in the 7th century when they lost almost all non-Greek territories, centralized around a Greek core, abandoned all use of Latin, and became a Greek nation state.Just your opinion, the WRE lost half of its territory in the 4th century, its capital was not Rome anymore but Milan/Ravena, it used much more local languages than latin and was not racially or culturally homogeneous, so this is pretty much you own bullshit>One of the principle drivers of a connection to Rome in my view is LatinRome was always pragmatic when it comes to changes, reforms or adoptions, but indeed Latin was one of their traits>Greek was always a prestige dialect within Rome, but it was never the sole language of everything, including the sole legal languageIt was the language of the educated man and aristocracy, elite, etc... it was not just a prestige language>At the point Byzantium made that change they stopped being Rome in my eyes and started being a Greek nation state. You opinion don't makes sense and are based on emotions and not reason or logic, pure cope
>>18482580Constantinople was called Byzantium (a village or city that existed before the metropolis itself) before.
>>18482615Yes, and they preserved their own greek and roman knowledge, not only them but the nestorian christians too, altrough they focused more on science and technology than literature or art
>>18482687They are more rich and developed than the western part, and even after the fall they still are even compared to the republican or principate period... still they are not a paradise indeed, especially the early roman empire and its tons of slaves that helped to stagnate innovation and technique... it take Western Europe some centuries to catch up, starting from the XII century renaissance.
Remember, for all the amcharir historian byzaboos, if Marcus Aurelius speaking Greek made classical Rome a Hellenic state, Donald Trump or any future US president speaking Spanish would make the US an Hispanic state, or if Portuguese, then a Lusosphere state. You retards can take your Greek and shove it up your arse.
>>18482739Thomas Jefferson could read Greek, so I guess the USA is Rome.
>>18482106I am so happy all those greekjeet brownoid chimps got genocided off their land. Atrocious to think they were so common once.
>>18482739>Donald Trump or any future US president speaking Spanish would make the US an Hispanic statebut it already is
>>18482106r/Byzantium is leaking.
>>18482106Pic rel reminds me of the Punic Wars, distant wars over territory you don’t even have a land connection with. The only thing that would make me like it more is if they had the same naval and elephant autism of the Hellenistic period.
Byz was roman up until it lost the levant and egypt. thats when it lost the right to be called roman and became an armenian-greek larp state ruled by anatolian sheep herders.
>>18482106It was trash. Rome died at the Milvian bridge.
I fucking hate the komniniggers so fucking much
>>18482606>If America stopped using English tomorrow, it would stop being America.lmao
>>18482756problem is they got replaced by even worse looking, shorter and smaller penis'd turks
