Also defectors are used for propaganda but are otherwise isolated from the rest of the population and live in secure compounds. Doesn't seem like the most enviable life. Most of them requested a return to Japan and one of them was imprisoned or executed at some point. Their wives and children were allowed to return to Japan but the rest either died in North Korea or are still there pushing 80 years old now. Also hilarious that the Yodogo hijackers wanted to go to Cuba and were forced to to to North Korea when they were informed they didn't have enough fuel to make it to the Caribbean.
