It's not controversial or a weird belief that there would be plenty of Germanic mercenaries and heroes traveling around the steppe and fighting in their wars for gold and glory. Even Greeks had a similar relationship with them. Even though the Scythians would often kill people for adopting Greek customs and fight them, there was also intermarriage and a sense of Scythians being wilder cousins of the Greeks in their mythology.So yeah obviously Germanics had contact with steppe people and travelled all over the place. That still doesn't answer the question of who the first Wotanist was.
