>>5156791Daniel Handler is a real one, I appreciate his work even more in retrospect. So lovably macabre in a way specifically that doesn't feel condescending to its audience. For a children's series, it has a damn high body count, to the point where even the show softens it a little by just having the henchpeople abandon Olaf instead of them all dying one by one in increasingly goofy ways like in the books.

>>5168709Better adaptation of the books, direct involvement from Daniel Handler (including the songs, which are very fun), it's both darker and funnier, features characters like the Squalors and Carmelita (begone, pedos, she's just a fun little brat), and Snicket himself being more like Rod Serling was a really cool idea. It's even one of the few shows where race-swapping doesn't bother me, because the implication in the show is that their "uncles" and "aunts" were never blood relatives to begin with. Making that very clear by keeping all the kids white but making a lot of their caretakers different races is actually kinda smart.
