General dedicated to posting and discussing art of either:1. Manmade objects, vehicles, tool, weapons etc. (of any kind and any historical era, as long as they fall in the ballpark of "technology") and fictional derivatives of such2. Objects, vehicles, creatures etc. that aesthetically fall into the visual space of mecha/robot/artificial/cybernetics etc. regardless of level of realism.Helpful to mention the level of realism, if any, you are taking into account in the art.
some time ago I said I wanted to make basically armored core with anime girls, so here is my first attempt at design
>>7524537
>>7529825Your stuff is just too good for this board anon.
>>7525101cool, is that nightfall head or loader4?
>>7534039Loader4, but who knows, Im using this AC as proof of concept, I alter the design each time I draft something. I kind of like the idea of the girls having an actual mech head as an option. but now I reallize AC designs are not really drawing friendly so I might need to simplify a bit for my own sanity. I also need to work more on the chest part to resemble a mech at least on something. Also, nice scarab head.
>>7534039Nice stylization
>>7534039Amazing as usual
>>7532666Heavy compliment, but thanks! If it wasn't for this thread, i would never have drawn in perspective>>7534462>>7535088>>7535235Love these very much
more refined design sketch. Still struggling with the leg details...
>>7534470>>7535036ty>>7537276appreciate ur contributions, am glad to hear you enjoy it
>>7537276Blog?
>>7537569wanted to comment on it when i saw earlier but didn't get the chance.i like your mecha musume, tho the leg area is a bit bland at this point, but it could still pass with minimal adornment (bubblegum crisis designs are a bit like this) although you would have to streamline the rest of the design to balance things outkeep going
>>7542823Yeah, its bland, I could had done it more elaborated but I wanted to keep the sexualized silluete. I might get away with it with a few panel lines.
>>7540030Nice to hear, thanks!>>7541708I have a side blog for the suit @kyifuy
>>7550064Cute! I dig the chunky style>>7550065Nice lines! my fav is the lav, and the cylindrical guns on the vehicle next to it>>7551071Fantastic work! I like the vents on the arms
>>7542764I forgot to respond to you, and then 4ch went down. Sorry man. Thank you for the nice words, i try to be like triggernax, sometimes. You can ask whatever you want here, if that's ok. Also the sketch is pretty neat, solid shapes and lines.>>7551071I like the colorscheme.>>7550064>>7550062>>7549008thank you for posting, appreaciate the art you make.
>>7551071>>7551071SEXOOOOOOOO
>>7557849you're not only good at form / draftsmanship, your compositions are also lit. looks like a Chinese mountain painting scroll
>>7524537Recently I decided to try drawing cars.
>>7559660
>>7554580how did you get so good at capturing their essence? right now im recovering from a combination of burnout and physical fatigue and i can barely draw even to the level i was at a few weeks ago, its rough. i suppose one question i could ask is what the work process is like. how you start and things like that. getting a good silhouette, making sure your forms flow without losing their sense of solidity, etc.
bump
>>7557850ty>>7562575Get well, do post if you manage to draw anything. Regarding starting, i allways start with gesture over sihlouette. I think more about what shapes to place and how to angle them against the POV. That's kinda the essence of it, it's not really construction, more like gesture/croquis, about how the shapes flow or clash. Composition and sihlouette come from scrapping and remaking a picture a few times until I'm happy with how it feels.
>>7559660I like the hatching technique>>7567024Cool scene! i like the pipes on the head
Are there any resources for drawing real life aircraft, military in particular, traditionally? I'm a beg and aviation autist but I seriously struggle with drawing jets right. I can do just about everything good enough to a point where I'm satisfied with the result but my jets come out as incoherent messes. Even the slightest misalignment makes it unrecognisable. Is the easiest way to just get a 3D model and trace/copy from it until I brute force myself into learning to do it freehand? I'm only asking because I'm very particular about my jets and want them to be recognisable down to the very variant. I'm genuienly dumbfounded how the Area 88 animators drew the in motion so accurately, especially when references for such things were incredibly hard to come by back in 1985 (and a lot of it was still classified even).

>>7569245Yeah, thanks, I guess, but I don't think they're dynamic enough. I'm just trying to make it like the racing manga, but I think it still looks pretty bad.
>>7570757And some ink
>>7569245>pictureWhat am I looking at here?
I'm trying out mechanized stuff. It looks a bit funky, how could I improve ?
>>7570094>>7570674>>7570679Mr Scott Robertson is that you? Big Fan
>>7577620no but thanks for the complement. i got this same complement a year ago. you are probably the same guy
drawing from around 8 years old i was meant to be a mechanization sperg
>>7579800Have you ever tried Charcoal? Or water color?
>>7580137yes but it's impossible to control and comes out sloppy. i only use mechanical pen now to have more control
>>7580979Ic ic, I haven't tried Charcoal yet but I was gonna do water color and alcohol markers, and guache for my vehicles eventually.Right now I just do markers and pen on top. Will eventually do full darker shading.Your pencil work is very very clean.
>>7570760I like the windshield glare. Did you use a white gel pen? or just leave the white parts blank?
First time sketching a plane in perspective using a box. I actually wanted to practice drawing in 2 point perspective but instead it ended up isometric
>>7581177No, just leave white parts
>>7548538Are you the guy who tried the KJG method of drawing from memory? Can you give me a small guide?
>>7579785You really are Scott ain't ya? I love this board. I wonder how many other masters lurk around here. That's based IMO
>>7584856
>>7573292It's the back of the hard suit, I want to make a piece where I emphasizes the wiring in the back. Thanks for asking, I'll try to draw a better pose>>7581858nice energy, there is a lot of depth>>7582077Fun to look at, i like the detail>>7582559These are very cool! I love the red hints
posted these on the int thread, feels better here
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread. Good art, lots of studies.>>7584003Idk if that's me you're thinking of. I never directly emulated KJG. I just have a similar mindset. It's mostly intuition, and building up intuition. You figure out how shapes project in geometry on the canvas, when viewed from different angles, and what shapes make up objects.
>>7581178fucked up the front wheel but, the whole drawing is 13cm long
Moebius/Nihei/Terada inspired stuff
>>7590073You should be able to see the missing tail-fin on the left side of the plane (red). And your box is off. To know where the center-line of a box is, you can draw a X (blue) and run a mid-line between the it. You can see that your plane doesn't really match up with the box you drew. But your box was off anyways. I still struggle with boxes so I tried "fixing" it but it was a bit sloppy. Anyways, You should watch >>7570693 videos, particularly the Industrial Design Fundamentals applied video, he mentions a rule of thumb, the further away the side of the box is, the smaller it should be.So the two front sides of the boxes should be "taller" than the back side of the box where the tail is. The top corner one being the smallest one where the red one I marked.Anyways your plane still looks good. Its just a lot of practice we need to do, Pretty much a lot of people in this thread have a far better understanding than I do as you can see from the vehicles they drawn. >(Cant quote because it think its spam)You could just try to see where you went wrong like I did digitally as well. The key is that your plane still looks good, it would have been a lot worse if it followed what your box shows. I guess this is what they mean by drawing though the "form" or whateverr
>>7590452Done. Pen size is waaay to small so I worked more than I should have
Hey, this thread is pretty cool! Gonna post some of my character designs from my upcoming game!
>>7592987It's a post-cyberpunk visual novel
>>7592988Some rendered stuff as well
How do I learn how to draw mechs and vehicles? Any tutorials, books or courses you guys recommend? I feel like perspective is the big one, but I barely see any discussion on how to tackle it or about good curses that teach it.
>>7593845See >>7570693Thats all you really need. Mecha Boxes with cuts and Cylinders
bumper
I originally posted this on beg but i realized there's mechas in it. So i guess take my shitty bumb because this thread is super cool and awesome and nice and it deserves to live
>>7589143>>7592889I like the hatching >>7592987Nice style! I love how boxy things are
>>7593845https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHrtim1sTkv8gYwTl0sVaA1ruGp5CQiA9
I should've used reference and now I don't know how to draw the mechanical parts
>>7570094part 2
>>7603731Mr Robertson, you're the best, but I don't know about that chair..
>>7604161is the perspective bad ?
>>7604250Nah, I was referring to the design. I might see in my head a triangle pattern to be cooler for the chair, but maybe I'm wrong.
>>7604611i wanted to put a pad in front f the drive's crotch s he won't get crushed in the event of a sudden stop. also the seat is low and wedged in front of the back wheel. so i thought i don't want the rider to sit with the back on the fender. so the seat whaps al the way back to front like a diaper. that's why it looks odd >>7569245
>>7593894>moderndayjamesIs this really all there is to basic bitch perspective drawing? Is there something more akin to gesture drawing when it comes to mechs? You know, wild and free? I've been using the method and it works, but it just isn't a fun result. The process itself is okay, but it feels like instead of expressing yourself and your tastes, you're just trying to solve an algebra or trigonometry problem.I guess I should find a way to simplify it and make it more dynamic, but I fear that takes more brain power than I'll ever have.
>>7608180>I've been using the method and it works, but it just isn't a fun result.Right, it works, and it sounds like you got a grasp of it, now have you tried just drawing with less and less guidelines? Like a simple box, and just cut and cut away and then make a vehicle out of it? Thats what I did here >>7605089I just did a simple box and began cutting, I did have a ref but it was entirely different pose and angle. But I just lined up where the key proportions would line up as ref points. But what you're looking for is called 'Intuitive perspective'. Which basically lets you create and entire scene if you really want to or just what one pose does. Its how Kim Jung Gi draws. Basically drawing from imagination means you can visualize a gird on your paper and place charcters anywhere. Which starts with basic shapes.https://youtu.be/f5Bq-ugRv3EBasically you'll be able to draw and rotate vehicles or characters or mecha's or build mecha's and interesting shapes etc. If you know how to draw your shapes in space. But if you want something way more wild and free you need to build up your mental reference libary, and so you need to study more mechs and how mechanical parts work and move. Like you know a mecha hip could be connected to a leg with a ball joint, or you can make one that uses more hydraulics. etc.I would say my way of thinking is more 'mathy' way of drawing but here are some other youtubers that might help give you inspiration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lze2ldq04aIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYm6as8ZkkEThe latter also has good fundamental videos too. But I am pretty big believer on the whole focusing your fundamentals if you really want to improve your art quality. At least thats what worked for me.Have you seen his videos on mecha? Apparently he has one too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li2qw57PqZI All mechanical parts are just basic shapes with extra shit on top, cuts or holes that are just some kind of box or "rounded" box, simplified
mechsisters, what is new ?
Why is everyone in this thread so good wtf
>>7609397https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grU69Pqb0do
>>7608649Beautiful explanation. I am an engineering student, so I end up drawing a lot to help me visualize the objects I am making. I tend to take a more mathematical approach to drawing, too.
>>7609397Damn! Nice work
I'm actually kinda surprised. I was actually able to draw something that resembles a vehicle and with almost tolerable perspective too.If anybody can tell what the shitbox is meant to be, then I'll be a happy man. Just ignore the left track.>>7608649>Intuitive perspectiveGrids make me sick, but I can see their usefulness. It's weird, I like relying on them but I hate the fact that I'm using them. Thank you for the effort post anon, I'll try my best to improve from here on out.
I wanna draw a manga style comic about air combat
wip
Any tips on drawing machinery in general? Just cant seem to figure out at what point I fail. Is my perspective grid simply off?
>>7614761Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjOmqXxTMmMHe does a good example that is similar to yours, and yours has the similar error he goes over and shows you how to avoid or fix those mistakes. His channel also has a lot of other videos that you would find helpful. Then watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJQAHAnvzUIDude has a lot of knowledge and everything you need to know, and more or less goes over all the talking points from Scott Robinson book. Though I found his videos a little easier to understand. The youtuber also has other videos for Machinery and Mehca and whatever as well. I havnt checked everything out but its probably what you're looking for. Also you can read what I wrote here as well >>7608649
>>7610606Include anime girls in that and I'm reading it.
>>7615773idk
>>7616517Sick, I like the rendering. Watercolor or marker?
>>7615773>>7616517Amazing EG man, I'm so tired of the animu girls on this board your work is like a breath of fresh air.
Guess I'll throw this in here
>>7617429alcohol markers
I got bored of the symmetry, but I like how the wires makes it look like an insect >>7617666very cool>>7617788I love the headlights
The EG poster motivated me to do the left taillights of an R32
>>7619998Damn, this looks really juicy. I like the work with the highlights. Now draw it completely, please
>>7620236>Now draw it completely, pleaseI refuse; taillights are all I can do with my limited skill.Amazing 240sx btw, I wish I could work with vanishing points. Also, is that an Outback or an Outlander in the back?
>>7610606That doesn’t look like manga.>>7616517>>7617788This looks like manga.
Trying to get better at eyeballing/intuitively constructing things in perspective. Bullshitting the cast shadows and rendering is a bit harder though lol.>>7617788>>7620236Love these ones.
>>7621130But I insist. And actually, this is a supra a70. Damn, it's a shame that I couldn't draw it like the original.and in the background there are just scribbles from my imagination, without references
Murderbot
bumpo
I want to draw a complicated perspective, but I don't want to use the grid tool. My autism is annoying me. (bump)>>7625918Oh damn, fucking sick. Love the lines.Would be even cooler with a second car trailing behind.
Wish I hadn't used the red pen on the construction.>>7628710Just eyeball it then use tools to fix mistakes.
>>7625918Any good (copic) marker course? I want to color my drawings like a Japanese.
>>7629549COOL!
>>7640128Fixed
>>7640142I forgt shadows
>>7642914
I have not posted for a while
really badly designed tank
Any books?
>>7645689This was really, really nice. You should do more like this
>>7649292thanks, thinking about doing short animations of characters or comics for a new project, its mostly going to be goon bait but with some kino
>>7649396>its mostly going to be goon baitI like where this is going, please proceed
forgot to post art, most the mech stuff I've done this year was 40k related, gotta do more mechs
>>7645684
>>7650406hahah thats sick, hatching is fun and you're good at it, all my recent stuff has no hatching
>>7638024is this a mech suit or is it a full robot? asking so I can draw it
>>7650431thank you, I like your designs a lot >>7650435full robot

>>7650567cheers, I always like seeing how others interpret a drawing
So much good art in this thread
Damn. Mechbros can draw.
>>7640155>>7645640I like these a lot. got any more?
>>7590532I finally got unbanned, thanks for the suggestion, it was really insightful
>>7664430I was worried I scared you off lol.>>7660516Like I said in this thread before, /mg/ at its core is perspective and shapes. And considering things have to be near perfect objects ie symmetrical, its easy to spot flaws and so you have to grind perspective and shapes. If you can master these, then well you get really cool looking art. Perspective alone is one of the hardest things to master, and if you do, you can draw anything.>>7661155I been working on human anatomy and the like >>7663801 so no, but I have a lot of things mentally planned for /mg/ though I need to do a deep dive in /trad/ stuff since I am kinda not liking digital too much besides the pixel style.... Actually I do have something, picrel>>7654924>>7643131Saw your other stuff in the other thread and I think it's great, I think you're a /int/ for sure. Though I am curious to see what your non /mg/ stuff looks like. But as far as vehicles go, you're really really good. Especially since you're doing this in trad too. If you want advice or constructive crit I would say do more complex scenes and push your drawings to the limit. Only when you struggle do you find your weaknesses. (I struggle with every drawing I make).
Opel Ascona A, my beloved.
>>7659510I love the shapes, especially the torso >>7664460This is a very cute tank!
>>7664486Very good!
>>7640155Great work
>>7664791thank you!
>>7664460Well, thanks, i guess
I regret that I stopped trying when I drew the background and I also spilled coffee on it at some point lol
I sat way too long on this. I have to learn more forms in perspective
>>7664460>you have to grind perspective and shapes. What exercises should I be doing?
Boats are kinda hard.>>7671956I'm not any of those guys but these posts >>7570693 >>7608649 laid it out pretty well. Also Scott Robertson How to Draw which has actual exercises like how to multiply/divide boxes, mirror symmetrical objects and stuff like that.

How do I practice thumbnailing?
Car from life today. Sketching front/back/side views first to get a feel for the anatomy then gonna transition to more perspective based drawings. This was so fucking difficult and taxing, I can’t believe you guys regularly draw this type of stuff
>>7688049Another one. Didn’t get to finish obviously
anyone have more tutorials like this?
>>7690088Anotha one. I fucking love drawing cars.>>7691144Really cool design!

>>7559661Cressida? We have one. This thing will continue driving until the engine literally grinds itself into dust.
>>7692209In general, the Cresta gx70 and the Mark 2 gx70. Cressida is a Mark 2 for the American market with left-hand drive, as far as I remember. It's just that where I live there are a lot of old right-hand drive Japanese cars, that's my fetish.
good morning mechsisters !
>>7698869I like how you omit some of the detail and keep it distinct at the same time>>7704067love your pencil work, I am inspired to learn
>>7707612Thank you, i struggle with readablity sometimes
