What does DPI even means when you are setting up your canvas?
>>7656907Dots per inch, it's (I think) for printing.Like how many dots the printer should place on the paper for clarity
>>7656909So it doesn't have anything to do with the digital artwork itself?
>>7656910Ya,The resolution is entirely dependent on how many pixels there is in the canvas. You can actually mess around with the dpi on one of your pieces and you'll see it doesn't effect it at all
Like I struggled to tell which is which if it weren't for the timestamp
>>7656907>>7656909>>7656910>>7656916CSP will translate DPI into canvas size if the display units are anything other than pixels. This might be confusing if you don't realize it's happening.
Sorry if this is a super stupid question, but on CSP, halftones are supposed to look like perfect circles, right? when I try to use it, I can literally see each pixel. Am I doing something wrong? I use 2000x2000 at 600 dpi
>>7657340I don't use CSP, but this effect looks like a combination of low-resolution and a monochrome setting. Increasing your image resolution (and scaling it up e.g., 600x600 -> 3000x3000) will mean more pixels per halftone dot, allowing the program to better approximate a circle. Disabling that monochrome restriction (or enabling anti-aliasing?) will allow the program to use a range of grays to produce the circle, softening the jagged edges.
>>7657340Your canvas quite small for 600 dpi screentones, so that's why you're seeing pixels. 2000x2000 @ 600 dpi is only a 3.3" x 3.3" print so the dots will look very large and fucked up.Try making an A5 size page, put your dpi to 600, and then try making the same halftone with the same settings. Does it look like circles then?
>>7657360>>7657354Thanks to you two, got it to look good! I should prob start using higher resolutions now, lol
Can someone please help me translate what point #2 is trying to say? I've translated it 5 times, asked AI what it means, they simply can't understand what it's saying. Here are the moonrunes if you need it for some reason.>見える黒目の形と上まぶたの接点+二重ライン (Mieru kurome no katachi to uwamabuta no setten + nijū rain)
>>7659889Also I should mention I don't need the literal translation as I already have it and I don't understand it at all.>Visible shape of the pupil and the contact point of the upper eyelid + double eyelid line
I was looking through my old notebook from 2 years ago and damnit my art has gotten worse since then.
>>7659889Pretty sure it's just labeling the key points.Gemini said:Intersection of visible pupil shape and upper eyelid + double eyelid line (or Where the visible iris meets the upper eyelid + double eyelid line)
Can tracing actually help you learn? Obviously not trying to pass it off as your own but using it as a tool
>>7660152Learning to draw straight maybe, but unless you already have base knowledge on what to look for, no.
>>7660152Yes but it's very easy to just mindlessly trace where you don't learn anything. To get anything out of it, you need a specific goal in mind. First copy without tracing, then analyze what is off. If you can tell that the proportions are off, draw the basic proportions by tracing over the reference and then overlay that over your drawing to see what was off. If you notice the legs were too short, you can try it again and pay attention to make sure they legs are long enough. You could repeat this for a couple different drawings and notice you always make the legs too short, so then you need to specifically focus on that.Just tracing doesn't help that much unless you learn something while doing it, and apply what you learned to your drawings. I've seen it discourage some people too because they use it as a crutch every time and always compare their better traced drawings to their worse un-traced ones. So it can be a double-edge sword. Also, there are lots of different types of tracing. Anatomy tracings, like in some of Prokos vids, were pretty helpful to me.Tracing an ellipse guide or straight edge, trains your body to know the correct motion. Speeding up and slowing down to where you have the most control is useful to know too.Tracing over line art you like. Just because you can get it in the right spot because your just tracing, you still have to pay attention to how thick the line is, how it stops and starts too. You can always tell when a beginner traces because their lines still suck, even when they are in the right spot.
>>7660170Cool, I was just thinking I could try to use it to correct mistakes but anatomy tracing sounds really useful too
I'd say no, tracing has it's place, but that's mostly just in saving time.Learn to sight-size, place your reference right next to your canvas, and measure it out with your thumb or a stick of some kind. If you want you can put a copy of your reference UNDER your canvas to flip on and check how close you are, but don't draw with it on.
What's the deal with art instructors art looking like complete childish shit? Drawing is a hobby I've had for the past few years while going through life. Every time I get a new instructor I'll look up what they've done and it always looks like trash a kindergartener could make. Except for one dude that actually illustrated cool fantasy shit. But the rest were embarrassing. They would have their work priced for between 400 to 2000 bucks and some do appear sell. I don't get it. Is it just pretentious rich idiots buying it? How the hell do you convince people to buy that crap?
>>7660245If you make a living with your art alone then you don't need to teach. But also, not everyone who's great at art is great at teaching it. And vice versa.
>>7660245that's just a taste issue
Are there any guides or tips & tricks on how to pose models in CSP? I feel like a complete retard when using them.
Who taught the first human to draw? What was their power level? Was there somebody back then to give feedback?
>>7660147I've already been through this with Gemini, what "intersection"? What "contact point"?
>>7660640dunno, needs more context
>>7659889>>7660640It's difficult without the context (i.e., the other drawings on the page) but it seems like they're pointing out how eyes can differ, or how this particular eyes differs. So 2 refers to how the iris meets the eyelid; this visual example is a bit confusing as it is representing the option "doesn't meet the eyelid".https://animeartmagazine.com/drawing-girls-eyes-part-1/Perhaps this page covers the same point more clearly? It talks about how this style of eye differs from earlier styles, and then the lower examples show the iris meeting the upper lid, too.
>>7660700It's from How To Draw Moe. Weird, the website you linked uses art ripped straight from the same book. Are they really allowed to do that and sell a course using it?Thanks for the link though. You're right, the part that confuses me is that the text doesn't match the illustration. And Gemini keeps saying it doesn't make much sense either even with the full page of context. I guess I'll just move on
>>7656907DPI in the context of images, it's just the information that tells the printer how big should be the image on paper. If the DPI are 254, then 100 pixels will be 1cm on paper.DPI make no difference in digital. When you change DPI, several programs by default change the resolution automatically in order to have the same printing size, causing a loss in quality. But the automatic change in resolution can be disabled.
>>7656893Are there people already able to draw without ever doing it before?
>>7661234That's every person on the planet. If you meant draw WELL, then you're probably only ever going to see something "good for a beginner". Flukes happen, but you're probably not going to find somebody who can make drawings with rock solid fundamentals and technique consistently right off the bat.
>>7661330It's just that I remember of a friend in highschool just pulling off a portrait of me and another one on the blackboard. And also another friend doing a spiderman drawing while waiting for the food.I always thought they always knew how to do it, but I can't ask them as I don't see them for several years.
>>7660245When I went to college (I'm old so this was decades ago), none of the tenured art faculty could draw. One of them went on sabbatical and they brought in an adjunct to teach his classes. This guy was incredibly skilled and his drawings were amazing. The rest of the art faculty were so resentful, I kid you not, I overheard them shit-talking him behind his back. "Students are going to think that's the only way to draw." "Realism is pointless." etc. It pissed me off because he was very gracious towards them and never claimed that his was the only way.

i've been drawing for years but when i start to draw i have a strike of anxiety for the first hour that stops me from drawingit takes a while for me to really get comfortable with drawing but i eventually do but it does stop me from drawing at all some daysi think this is what they call the "yips" does anyone know how to deal with this?

>>7665228i should preface that it used to be easier for me to really start drawing and the anxiety shocks only started a few years ago
Is it retarded to take a digital painting course if my goal is to render in a way like pic related? the course feels more aim toward painterly stuff
>>7666339no it is notif you're really that new to rendering it'd be good to learn the basics because even your goal the artist has a strong sense of of the planes even if its subtle
So I used the Ctrl+click shortcut on CSP to auto-select this layer, but it looks like there's a lot of parts that aren't part of the selection for some reason. Is there a way to fix this? In case it wasn't clear, I wanted to sand off the parts from the layer above it that's currently clipping on this layer. I'm following Elle Kurtz's cloud brush tutorial and I don't know if there's an option to lock the layer on CSP like it does on PS. The lock layer on CSP stops it from getting altered any further, unlike in her video where it lets you paint more on to it while keeping the edges intact
>>7665716I don't know what to tell you, man. Regardless of why you're suddenly afraid of drawing, the only way you're going to solve it is to just stop being a bitch about it.
>>7666439The selection only shows a certain opacity threshold. It should still be selected, but any parts that aren't 100% opacity on the layer, will only take partial brush opacity.Don't use the selection if you want to paint over, use clipping layers and merge them back in when you're done.
>>7666443Also, picrel
>>7666443Ahh, I didn't know that. Since I wanted to sand off the parts from the other layer, I thought I'd invert that selection and work from there. You can understand why the parts that aren't at 100% opacity affects the precision on the inverted selection. It did give off a pretty cool outline effect though, but I wanted to follow the tutorial exactly for now.>>7666448So that's the locking option I should've taken! Thanks anon

>>7666546Did you ask about the artists they do know and the paint processes they've learned?
>>7666546Do you think knowing about artists makes you an artist?
>>7666548I did, only be of them just said they really liked Dalí and didn't really elaborate. It was a weird experience because I was nervous even doing this class (acrylic painting focusing on shapes/shading/textures/colors rather than finished stuff. The paintings are very abstract as they are done for certain concepts relating). I don't think my stuff is amazing on a technical level, but trying to be dispassionate, I honestly don't thinking it was much different than what these people were pulling off

How tough is it to get into gouache if I've mostly only used water colour and acrylics?
>>7667360Since you can rework it, it's a bit more forgiving so it that regard it is easier. Has things in common with both water color and acrylics, so shouldn't be too hard for you. Jeffrey Watts videos about it are decent. This stream is a good intro to it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEiGv1ShhBM
What exactly is tracing? Do I trace if I copy draw what I see or if I put piece of paper over drawing and draw over the lines that shine through? Or both of these?

Does "copy bridgman twice" actually work to improve one's figure drawing? Could I do it with another book like morpho?
>>7669322Copying bridgman twice will give you a lot of practice and practice will make you better yes. I think they say bridgman because it's just a bunch of raw figure drawings to copy with very exaggerated contours so you're forced to notice the anatomy on display.
>>7669322Doing Bridgman without having knowledge of foundational anatomy would just lead to a lot of bad habits.
>>7669322Morpho books are super short. You're welcome to add them to it, or maybe you could do like copy morpho and then try to do figure drawings in the same way as the book to make up for it.Part of "copy bridgman twice" is just the sheer number of drawings it makes you do gives a ton of practice.

What is "rendering"?
>>7670166It's kinda like making something look more three-dimensional. You draw a circle. When you start shading it in, that would be rendering.
>>7670167Would adding a contour line to the circle to make it look spherical be considered rendering as well? Or does rendering refer specifically to layering of those visual elements via painting?
>>7670166The "to make 3D" definition is mostly a weird beg-ism.It more refers to using an iterative refining process to get to a final result. It can be a realistic 3D thing, and often is, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. Like, picrel is 'rendered', but you wouldn't call it realistic or 3D.In contrast to something like lineart where you put down your line, and it's just done, you're not blending it, or painting over it, or whatever.>>7670232So no, contour lines aren't really rendering.
How do you know kid you’re good enough to start drawing I’m don’t want to be beg.
>>7670257>In contrast to something like lineart where you put down your line, and it's just done, you're not blending it, or painting over it, or whatever.Well, one CAN render in pen and ink. Hatching and stippling are ways to render values on a line drawing. Rendering is basically just the act of polishing an illustration beyond its base drawing.
>>7670260True, but that qualitatively isn't lineart. Not to say you can't hatch over lineart, but the hatching is rendered, not the lines.
what's the best place to look for references of fatter/bigger body types? i feel like all the reference packs usually pertain to thinner bodies
>>7670166Very broadly a rendering can mean: a sketch, illustration, or painting.Specifically, render can mean: To apply realistic coloring and shading. So rendering can also mean the act of coloring or shading a drawing/painting too. People here often refer to the refining stages of a drawing as rendering.
>>7670257Well, at the risk of being pedantic, I would argue that that picture adheres (or refers) to naturalistic visual rules which give it a sense of depth, which in my view would merit it being called realistic and 3D. Regardless, I understand that wasn't the point, but rather that rendering shouldn't be misunderstood as simply such. What I'm still confused about is what the key difference is. Couldn't the process of drawing an outline of a shape, adding volume with contour lines, and finally shading with cross-hatching be considered an iterative refining process? Or is the distinction that you create material which is a composite of multiple layers corresponding to rules of the visual space, while with linework the lines are "complete" in themselves? Or something like that.
>>7670308The difference is between top-down and bottom-up processes. Rendering, you start in big broad shapes and refine those shapes into more and more exact renditions. You can think of it like your painting is in a superposition, everything starts blurry and abstract and slowly collapses into what you want to paint. When you're drawing your outline and cross-hatching it, you're placing down the final versions of those things all at once. Lineart isn't iterative because you're not iterating on your lines. What lines you draw are the lines that end up in the final work. You can argue a sketch is rendered to some degree, but the final inked result isn't.
>>7656893Anyone know who drew this, or where the best place to ask who drew it would be?There's a signature in the bottom left but I can't make out what it says.
>>7670363Considering it's from a short lived magazine and everyone who worked on it is dead, you're probably not going to find anything about it.
>>7670363Jon Dahlstrom was a comic artist in the sixties. Maybe that'll get you there.

>>7670371You're probably right. These adverts were done by a Jon Dahlstrom a few years prior, though the signature is different. Good luck.
>>7670259You're going to be /beg/ no matter what. Being a beginner isn't a negative, everyone was one at one point. If you are serious about learning take a free art class at your local museum or pony up for one at a college.

Which method is the best for training accuracy? I've started trying to do the level 1 Dorian Iten exercise but with trace paper to overlay and check my work since I don't have a means to do it digitally right now. Is it just one of those things where I have to figure out what works best for me?
I know this has been asked innumerable times before, but how well would it go if u grinded portrait/figure drawing from life and then approached girls using that as a premise? Assume I am a modest 5-6/10 and not excessively neurodivergent. Would just having a sketchbook filled with portraits instantly provide social clout or proof that I am what I say I am and make them more comfortable with it? I could kill 2 birds with one stone if it works out. I assume it would work even better on girls I get to know first normally and then spring the question
>>7674031no need to find the perfect method or exercise. you will train accuracy every time you draw from reference, so long as you stay mindful and intentional>>7674406this just sounds like those weirdos who learn guitar to pickup chicks, never seen it work. for cold approach this honestly sounds like serial killer behavior, you'll get better ROI just lifting weights

how do people figure out the style they want everything of theirs to be drawn like? i have choice paralysis over this
>>7682068Why specifically do you have the choice paralysis? A style is just a love letter made up of all the masters and artists you learned from that inspired you. It's not that uncommon for artists to study different styles too. Just draw and pick a lane for now
>>7682124i think we can all agree making illustrations can take a long time. for me there's so many artists i like, many of them with very distinct styles that i want to draw like one one day, and another another dayknowing how long it will take to make something finished i'm left unsure how i should make my art look like at all
>>7683025It takes less time the better you get, most social media art is made in a couple of hours tops. Don't really worry about picking a style. Once your fundies are solid, it's easy to just switch to something else, or dabble in all of them. And it's good to do so. You don't want to draw like other people, you want to draw your own way, so collect lots of tools to build your own style with.
Is copying artists enough to learn? Would it be better to pick one of my favorite artists and only copy them?
>>7683435no, you have to actually use your brain, if not, you can spend months, years, drawing the same and not knowing what the fuck are you doing, thats is pretty much the case with most of the guys that do realistic style with pens for example, they can only copy pictures, very good, but the moment that they need to do anything from imagination, anything even adding a small object, or even adding another character using another picture (like adding a person to a group drawing), they can't even merge properly the lights and shadows to the rest of the image, because they only know how to copy.To must to copy and make your own drawings with that style, at least. Is like, actively pushing yourself, you can actually learn super fast that way but all depends of how much you tolerate the stress because you will have a strong circle of failure and redo, usually most people experience the same with but over a longer period of time,
I'm making a comic. I want to show that a lot of time has passed and the main characters have went on many adventures without drawing them all (the comic would never finish if I did). Like I'd only want to focus on four or five scenarios until they reach their destination. What's the best way to convey this?
Blogpost warning:There's a general I usually drawfag for that lately I've received a lot of negativity or outright being ignored when it was not the case years ago when my drawings were well received, I never said anything about myself or went offtopic, there's one anon in the thread that has commissioned me before that I asked what could be wrong with the place and he told me that is because I never engaged with the thread in a "friendly" manner, by that I mean trying to be their friends outside of the thread, talk about private topics and how their life is going right now and so on, compared to some other drawfags who do those things in the thread often.I don't understand how this is a problem, have I done anything wrong?
>>7683502So copying while supplementing with fundamental studies and drawing from imagination is the way to go, right?
>>7681564That's why I was thinking of making art specifically for commercial use. People would be more inclined to buy it and make t-shirts, posters and etc with it.
Why is it that I can spend hours and hours across days rendering one picture that never feels complete, meanwhile other artists just do very simple flat color with basic shading rendering and it always looks good?
>>7684554Sounds like you don't have an actual technique and are just fucking around until it looks good.
Dude are printer scans supposed to be so crunchy? I've tried a HP 9120e I have in the house and the quality is pretty pixely despite being 300 DPI, I get a much smoother result from my phone at the cost of it being a bit warped and not being as color accurate.
>>7684628Phone cameras apply smoothing and sharpness filters, the scanner is technically more accurate.
>>7684577That sounds accurate honestly. I get this will be a vague question but... how do I 'not' do that?
>>7684643Interesting, good to know. I might stick with my phone for the time being since I think it looks better in comparison
>>7684693Just practice, honestly. You need *really* good and internalized fundies. Those artists who you see being able to pump out a good looking piece in an hour or so are actually pulling their punches and are much, much better than they let on. If you draw what you know (not what you can), you can draw very quickly and efficiently, so it's a matter of increasing the things you absolutely without a doubt know how to draw.
If I want to turn a cube on a plane lets say by 45° how do I find the new vanishing points if I don't want to guess.
Where do? go end of the draw
>>7685076thats a bigger question than you think it isfirst you need to know what the station point is, and understand that in two point perspective, they are on a 45 degree angle this is hard to explain in just a single post, so you just need to learn formal linear perspective
>>7685076Station point. There will always be a point in your drawing where angles measured with a protractor are the same as angles in perspective. You can use that to find vanishing points for any angle, and draw your new cube.I rotated it 15* just so the vanishing points stay on the page, but same concept. If you want to measure out the sides to be the same, look up the 'measuring line'. But honestly, just guess, it's good enough most of the time.
What is the best job to support yourself while dedicating to drawing and art? Commissions are not an option
>>7685076The midpoints of the sides of a square are the vertices of a smaller square rotated 45 degrees.
>>7685835I think I understand the gist of it. The right 15° i get (though the farther or closer you pull the anti-vanishin- points the angle changes) yet the left seems absolutely random to ne.
>>7686511Try recreating the drawing yourself and then play with the rule to make your own
>>7686411The best job is artist's assistant. The second best job is night watchman. The third best job is any job.
>>7686511Both 15s are the same 15. One is measured from the station point, one is measured from the cubes.
Something I see a lot with golden materials is that people will shade parts of it with pure black, but why is this so common? What's the IRL effect it's (apparently) replicating?
>>7686838Gold is reflective.
>>7686838Surfaces have a specular (polished) component and a diffuse (roughened) component. A shiny surface will only reflect light back at you that originates from the correct angle. You won't see the sun in a mirror unless it is oriented properly. A textured surface is effectively made up of many tiny mirrors aimed in all directions, so regardless of the origin of the light, it will reflect some towards you. A textured surface angled like the earlier mirror in the sun will appear very bright to you. As you tilt it away from that orientation, it will slowly become less bright. A mirror titled slowly away from the sun will go from dazzling to not in an instant. To represent a very shiny surface, you can drastically alter the brightness of the surface as it curves away to show that there is no diffuse component.
Should I keep my Minecraft gaming username for my art handle?I already made a lot of accounts using that name as I had aspirations to be a good MC Youtuber, but videos games don't do it for me anymore. I just want to draw. On one hand I want to keep it as it takes me back to a happier time when I was 15, 11 years ago. It doesn't have numbers or L33tsp3ak letter organizing. Pic related to kind of help you guys understand the tone of the image.
I just learned of Pewdiepie's drawing videos about how he taught himself to draw pretty well. Has anybody done it and improved? How is Krita as a drawing software?
>>7687094He just sketched everyday in his sketchbook and drew the stuff he wanted to draw. Then studied some books on the skills he was lacking. Most people should be able to make similar progress as long as they develop the habit of drawing everyday, analyze their work and study the skills that are lacking. I've seen a people on YouTube and Reddit who were inspired by him and they improved.Krita is pretty good for drawing and painting. Some weird quirks but nothing too bad. Considering it's 100% free I would recommend it.
>>7656893It honestly bewilders me when people post /beg/ tier shit and asks whats wrong with it. Are these people blind? How do they not instantly notice when something looks like a mutated balloon animal?
how do I learn to draw fists, like punching? I tried using 3d models but they are horrendous and not even close to realistic. Copying photos doesn't work either because I've noticed people hold fists in fucked up grips that don't look when you actually draw them. I can't take a picture of my own fist for the same reason.
>>7687210I can see if it's a /prebeg/ and they have literally no clue what to even ask about. But otherwise, yeah. Fundies critique is kinda pointless for anyone with a shred of mental independence.
>>7687210>Are these people blind?kinda, since they're learning to draw they're learning to really train their eye for mistakestry looking at your early drawing sometime and you'll realize the stuff you just didn't see back then
>>7687213have you tried looking at your fist and drawing it? im not joking
>>7687213study it from art you like, comics or manga or whatever. when they do it in 3D animations, they have stretch the model and exaggerate the perspective to make it look good. so it can be one of those cases where you have to 'break the rules'.
A question for watercolors. I wanna try and focus on wet on wet technique practice. I also stretch out a bunch of pages ahead of time. It's okay to reset already dried paper until it holds its dampness for a while, right? I only ask because the paper kinda buckles when im adding that much water.

Is it difficult to develop two (or more) distinct styles?
>>7688527No
>>7688188look up wind tunnel videos, it'll show you what's going on, my layman guess would be that a leaf causes its own turbulance that swirls it aroundhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GsPvBb4o2w
>>7688527Yes, but no. Naturally you will develop a 'style', like how you have a handwriting style. But to develop a specific and distinct style you need good observational and drawing skills then you must mindfully deliberately choose the aesthetic aspects you want. If you have the skills to develop one distinct style, you could develop another distinct style somewhat easily.
>>7688641Can you learn observational and copying skills? Do you think it's possible for someone to aim to be a "chameleon" artist from the get go?
Any pointers on hatching / cross-hatching? Been trying to fuck around with it a bit, and I know that the basic gist is "more lines for darker tones", but it always ends up looking off. Then trying to "fix" it just makes it worse.
>>7688821Yohr hatching lines should follow the form of the shape you're drawing not up down left right wherever
>>7656893ESL here. I don't understand what the horizon line is. I can't see it in drawings and I don't understand where I'm supposed to place it when drawing something from an angle.
>>7689231Aside from the generic "it's where the sky meets the ground", it's the height of your eyelevel, and everything relates to that. Some people will be pedantic and correct this, but for your purpose horizon and eyelevel is the same.Imagine you're the cameraman, and the things above eye level you will look up at, while things below eye level, you'll look down on.Even if you tilt your head back or down, the actual height of your eyelevel in relation to the ground stays basically the same. Here's a good vid to help visualize it all:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxIcdrE9Vr8
>>7689282The mathematical horizon that all the vanishing points go to is eye level. The point on the earth where the sky meets the ground is not.Confusingly they're referred to as the same thing, but they actually don't have much to do with eachother. But for most cases (on earth) they just happen to end up in roughly the same place.
>>7688825Fair enough. I assumed it was something like that before posting, but it was coming out even worse when I tried that initially.Ended up looking up some references and I think I'm starting to get it? I think my issue earlier was that I was trying to do the curved lines across the whole "sphere". When I tried doing smaller lines from opposites sides and "connecting" them at the middle, it worked better. Still need to get the hang of it (too much shadow on picrel, I think, and some lines still have odd angles/curves/whatever), but it definitely came out better. Thanks anon!

How do I improve if I’ve drawn for years and don’t see major improvement. I never learned fundies and don’t know how to learn it if I’m not at a complete novice level…Picrel is where I’m at doodle/sketch wise Finished isn’t much more polished
Trying the Krenz method. Studying from observation isn't easy, but it's doable. Get some angles wrong, trying to aim for 85% or so, but trying to do it from imagination (right-most attempt) is just suffering. Does everyone go through this until they visualize it better? The good part is that I got the angle of the shoulder pretty much perfect, but I just seem to forget everything else.

Draw characters with dark solid shadows, only using a black hardround.>Perspective? Draw characters reaching towards the camera, standing under/over the camera, etc.>Gesture? Try to push your limits when it comes to posing, do lots of gesture studies>etcImprovement comes from challenging yourself>>7690082Very nice work, the Krenz method is a great way of giving beginners a kickstart on getting proportions right on observational drawing and judging by your May study you're at the point where you can start using fewer lines to eventually start eyeballing it.The big secret is if nobody directly compares what you reffed nobody can see your mistakes as long as your piece looks mostly natural

An way to be able to take a base, take some parts, and then create multiple permutations without having to personally go and edit every small little thing.I am aware that this could be technically done with layers, but with the amount of permutations I want, doing so would make it really, really annoying and time consuming.

Have any of you found any non-slob uses for AI? Like cirtiquing or redlining or advice omn areas to focus on?
>>7707596Critique is okay. It works better on more complete images.I think it's most useful for finding information on things that are hard to google, either because they're hard to parse as a search query or because searches don't give good results.. Top search results are always tailored toward 10 year olds and redditors, so often times they just give woefully incomplete information or are just blatantly false. Like, I'll use it for checking cultural or historical references because that kind of thing is so intensely clickbait poisoned on the wider internet that it's impossible to get any actual information out of normal search results. It's not perfect, but it's a better starting point than some dumb ass redditors repeating information they got from a youtube video that just plagiarized a wikipedia article verbatim.

Why do so many color guides say "warm light creates cool shadows/cool light creates warm shadows" when the vast majority of "shadows" are the result of scattered light from the blue sky illuminating the shaded areas?
I made a doujin using AI, I could use some critique about pacing, the scenes, dialogues, etc, is this board the right place or all AI is not allowed?
>>7707980Because color temperature is relative. Even on a cloudy & overcast day without much blue ambient light, the shadows will appear cooler if the light is warm. Because the surrounding warm light will make the shadows appear cooler in comparison. And vice versa, if the light was cool, the neutral shadows would appear warmer in comparison to the cool lights. Assuming there is no additional light sources, like the ambient light of the reflected blue sky.Richard Schmid - Alla Primahas a good section on color temperature. He goes over some exceptions too.

Also it doesn't hurt on your down time to research the topic you're trying to get right, they may pull you in a bunch of different directions so be careful but one could click with you. With this method you should see immediate progress, learning = changing a behavior. Same behavior= Same result, focus on what you can do differently to get to the result you want then you don't have to worry about bad habits so much.
