Welcome to /INT/ - Intermediate Draw! Please post in this thread if you're above /beg/ beginner but not yet ready for the big boys' club in the advanced draw thread.Try to reflect upon your art and what you could improve upon. Be self-critical!---the Dunning-Kruger Effect:Dunning-Kruger effect, in psychology, is a cognitive bias whereby people with limited knowledge or competence in a given intellectual or social domain greatly overestimate their own knowledge or competence in that domain relative to objective criteria or to the performance of their peers or of people in general.Essentially, the Dunning Kruger effect explains why incompetent people are unable to see that they’re incompetent.--->dA /ic/ group :http://4chan-ic.deviantart.com>/ic/ Resources/Reference/Downloads/Links:>General resources :http://sites.google.com/site/4chanic/http://sites.google.com/site/artandwhatnot/http://characterdesigns.com/http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-3.htmlhttp://finaltrinity.tumblr.com/post/13163064364/art-references-tumblr-accounts>fellowBro's books :http://mediafire.com/?i44dwzkf9j9n8>Figure Drawing Tool:http://pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.phphttp://posemaniacs.comPrevious Thread: >>7619879

>>7661410She has a cute face and lively eyes, but you should double-check that the centerline of her nasal dorsum follows on properly from that of her glabella-radix area: currently, the shading in the middle of her upper face makes it look as if the features in question were misaligned. As a tip, consider that the glabella-radix area is essentially a trapezoidal/triangular prism (of varying dimensions and depth), with the edges of its frontal plane linking the inner corners of the eyebrows with the nasal bridge:https://us-fbcloud.net/wb/data/1422/1422703-img.vna7bn.1n2bo.opsbbkdf.webphttps://images.prismic.io/cotofana/ZvQ-_LVsGrYSv_dQ_glabella.pnghttps://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsBRmZDNuAUu6KPT84hoWsILCls1gCJ8aHMTMyhj88Z0ZNAGj8EtqDIBz9G8OlL55_IYibUl8-Y3akP8GrzT_aJSik2fKS9zZzNphA6xMHDVY4855Zce2osl4oy016uEzuYglhXTtyOlk/s1600/structure-of-nose.jpgApart from that, since being cautious doesn't hurt, I would also recommend that you flip your canvas, and then proceed to rotate it until the face of your character is more or less in an upright position: that way, it will be easier for you to correct any other potential asymmetries that might have gone unnoticed.Lastly, I suggest that you reduce somewhat the thickness of your character's neck: besides making her head look smaller, it doesn't really appear to match her body type.
tree fixed and I took some of the composition feed backstill looks amateurish for a piece I tried to make look polished and I cant point out why any feedback?

>>7661035
>>7662192Maybe invest more intention and time into the tree? The ends of the branches seem like second thought. The back base of it as well. Like it's not actually rooted into the ground there. The darkness and saturation of the red at his foot, maybe you could have the same or similar value at his very low back/bum? Might also help him feel more rooted and weighed down to the ground.>>7662599I had no idea he passed. RIP.The shape of his face is nice and evocative but maybe his eyes are a tad soft in expression/shape.Beautiful colours.
>>7662599This looks great but I think the glasses contribute to that lesbian look the other anon was talking about. I saw pics of him with circular shades on. I think you should’ve done that since it gives him more character. Dope signature and colors
>>7662856How do I make it look more rooted, why does it feel like its not rooted ?
>>7662901The heavier value for colour and then this area not 100% looking like it's actually part of the ground/interacting with each other?I can try and give an example later.

>>7667826When doing Grisaille, I usually add an overlay layer at 15% opacity to make the colors more vibrant. Even with this, I just don't feel like I have enough control over the colors so I rarely use it.

I am done studying hands for now. Didn't get much useful critiques, so I will say this, not satisfied with either of these hands. The left one I could not figure out the index finger, and likely should have tried tracing it first to figure out the joint placements, but with this perspective it looks very odd and short compared to the middle finger. Right one the thumb doesn't feel right at all, though I will admit I started to get a feel for how to construct the fingers better, but still not very good. Wasn't getting many critiques in general, and does this even belong in /int/? I think I'm between /beg/ and /int/ to be honest.
>>7669693Think you struggled so much with the likeness in the left hand because you made the pointer nail far far larger and down the finger itself than it is in the ref.I find it's easier to draw hands from odd foreshorten perspectives etc. if you draw the nails (exactly as they're shown) first. Easier to imagine building up the finger that way.
>>7669693 if you want to truly understand hands, study them from life and not just from photographs.as for crit, I think you should study the hand bones and muscles. Maybe look into Bridgman or other artists that draw hands well and study their approach as well
>>7669693>I think I'm between /beg/ and /int/ to be honest.I don't see the effort to be honest.

How do I get used to drawing in huge canvasses and high DPI faster and more effectively? I want to draw manga. I've been drawing on portiona of standard A4 300DPI all my life. I'm not sure why it's so uncomfortable.>>7671800How about hard light up front, like flash photography? Also where's the lion's body?
>>7671851I think the lion is one of those wheel head lions which only have wings
>>7670572It's weirdLooking at this at first glance you would appear to be early /beg/But then you look at the hands and feet and they are drawn so well! You need to study some more artists you like and hone in on that alternative style you are chasing - personally think the big heads could work - i found this pick earlier today that may work as inspiration for the body types you are going for The frog looks like it's from banjo kazooie
>>7671851The Lion's body is behind the character, maybe I went too dark in the intersections and it doesn't read too wellI'll try out lighting it from the front, thanks!

>>7672181
>>7672184last one, don't want to be a spam whore
>>7671864this is pretty cute>>7672177I like this one.
>>7671952Good job. Just revise the dimensions of the furthermost rim/lens of his glasses so that it's a bit longer and more vertically narrow (making sure that it remains parallel with the other one, while keeping in mind the foreshortening), and round up slightly the overall volume of the hair (so that his cranium feels somewhat taller), and your character bust will be pretty much flawless.
>>7671952Bro wtf that's my hair and specs. Wtf
I have not done digital much before, and spcially not renders. how do I continue from here?
>>7672372I'd suggest watching some beginners videos to rendering.
>>7672427Yeah, I'm thingken we have a new OP image.
>>7669693Same poster, after drawing hands I decided to move onto skulls, and since I drew two skulls (same reference as you can see) back in 2023, I decided to try again to see how much I've developed. Note, I didn't do ANY tracing, but I did sometimes overlap the sketch with the reference to check for accuracy. In the future I'll try not to do this so much (and for the cheekbones I did try to figure them out based on their shape and perspective, which I think I pulled off okay enough?)The main thing I can tell is while the late 23' one is 3d formed and not a symbol like the first 23' one, it looks quite inaccurate and nothing like the skull. However the new one actually does look like the skull reference, so I consider this a success...and yeah the shading I am not too sure about but I think considering my lack of experience it looks okay enough? Also probably helps I had decent sleep for once last night which may have helped.
>>7672775Well, the rendering is shitty for starters there are many layers missing of brown, yellow maybe a little red in some places rather than just 2/3 tones of gray.I'd say combine the first 2023 attempt with the 2025 attempt and apply more roundness to certain places of the skull like the forehead and the back because your style or whatever has become too straight as in too many sharp or rectangular lines that you need to round up a little to get a better form.>Note, I didn't do ANY tracingWho cares retard, use it as a tool to get a better understanding of shapes specially when you're doing digital.I guess it's a better effort this time, but you still have ways to go.
>>7672790Sucks your attitude is is kinda shitty but I appreciate some of the advice. I wasn't going for colours though, you seem to be assuming I wanted to colour and shade but that wasn't my intention at all.
>>7672793>I wasn't going for colours thoughI thought so, but I couldn't tell if it was a practice or a finished piece because of your skill. Either way it'll be nice for you to finish your work for a change. Take that into consideration.
>>7672800Does it matter? It's a sketch. I could have gone for nicer looking lines but maybe one off my next skulls will have lines and look neater. Oh, mind sharing some of your work? I'm curious to see it.
Is brush economy real? whenever I look at Craig Mullin's paintings, he seem to not give a shit about the amount of brush he use at all and still make it look fantastic.
yjk where I'm going from here
>>7667241The best technique I was ever told is just to start with the shadow shapes first. All shadows, cast and form, all one tone, all hard edges. Then from here start to soften the edges on form shadows, work back and forth to darken the core shadows, ambient occlusion, and lighten for reflected light. But by starting with just the shadow shapes, you are making sure that you have a defined light and dark side to avoid the issue in the pic, and you are also thinking about the design of the shadows as you would design anything else, rather than just letting them happen, where things become muddled and unsure.
Here is my art ^_^ im pretty bad at drawing humans lol
>>7673126Nicely done, love the finish.
>>7672185you can't post all that and not leave a blog
>>7673113Hmmm
>>7661433I see you're still tracing? Why didn't you just jump on the AI promting bandwagon instead?
>>7666553Do you trace these or eyeball it? If no response, I'll assume the first.
>>7671381As I thought. As soon as you stop tracing, it blatantly shows how shitty your true skills are.
>>7674582Because it is more fun
>>7674585Lmao, it's funny you think that way, I can bet you can't even traditionally, no, in fact I bet you don't even think about drawing. You are a true nodraw.

>>7675079Using social media for popular contest is so 2011. In 2025, it is a dead internet, there's no real people, people are brainwash, programmed to be sterile, content is sterile because the people are sterile, fast and sloppy, that's why tiktok thrive on doomscroll.exe. if you are still trying to farm on sterile npc, I'm afraid they won't be interested. Think of them as people on fentanyl but for the mind. Even some of artists are like this. They are afraid to lose audience.
>>7675179popularity is realy relative when talking about the internet, what i want is a niche audience that likes what i do, not to be loved by normies that will stab me in the back for saying something they didn't like
>>7675196You won't be able to find them. They control the algorithm, Google, youtube, even chatgpt. You will have to find them via other means.
>>7675199what would you recommend then
>>7675205Destroy the algorithm, slay the dragon, save the girl, save the world. Pretty impossible, but if there's a will there's a way. For all adventures, you need a quest, set your goals, realistic goals, and pick your fights carefully, you can't slay the dragon with a swing, unless you got really lucky, and for a better success rate, get a team who can contribute. Art itself is already an noble pursuit, you are now carrying the cross at the same time. So you got to be really strong. Whatever the fuck that means. Good luck, may the gods and the muses guide you.

Question for artists. Do you guys just look for ideas for ocs, do you get inspired by other ocs or characters and apply the "Good artists copy, great artists steal" method or do ideas pop in your head for your work?I have a boat load of ocs and art from other artists and plan on using them for ideas. Might even plan on looking for more artists to practice or "steal ideas".
I sorta see why they include /int/ in /beg/.
I really need to explore other styles, but I can't help using saturated colors and high contrast, it's just too much fun.
>>7694606Where did it all go so wrong?
maybe im actually a permabeg.I'm the same guy who was posting the gohan vs broly picture last week. i get to a point like this with my drawings where i know that the oozaru looks like shit, and needs an outline, and shading, and i know that i could clean up vegeta's hair, and tien's pants, and i should fix the shenron's antler's and make the frame fit into the rest of the picture instead of being so weird, but i think the reason i don't want to do those things is because from 3 feet away you won't be able to tell the difference anyway. and to do all that would be optimistically like 3 hours of work, so i guess my question is, do you think you need to finish a drawing completely until you can't improve it anymore, or do you think you should set a time limit and that you shouldn't polish a turd? should i go back and fix up goku's hair and vegeta's eyes, and draw the fins on the dragon's back better, or just fucking stop wasting my life on this drawing? serious question.
>>7695103these fixes won't take you three hours the longer you keep powering through to do them. do not end up in wip hell where youre just constantly making new wips so you never have to draw or finish anything that challenges you.

What I'd do is go back and work on each thing piece by peace to fully flesh it out/finish it.And forgive me, I don't know their names but have the bald gentleman in the front match the colour palette and light source/shadow of the one behind him. Same for the bust up at the front. As is it feels a bit copy paste like different art pulled and pasted together.Collages like this can look really cool but I think the colouring on those two specifically are too different than the rest of the idea/painting.It would bring harmony.
>>7696266You're on 4chan and you don't know the names of Dragonball characters? That seems very sus. What are you a mossad agent? Fuck even they would know.
>>7696245Here's 2 more hours. Mirror finished turdster.
>>7696581I know the DBZ franchise is super popular especially with hispanic groups but I myself as a kid only read Dragon Ball and played a few of the fighting games. If I'm not sure of the names of the characters, I won't say them. That's all.>>7697546Ganba
2hr painting How is it
>>7697599looking goodher neck looks off at the moment but that could because of the stage you're at in the piece
>>7697603Thanks
I'm in a hospital but the night shift guardian doesn't want me to get my sleep pills, but I can't fall asleep. Also I can't sleep because I've just woke up.
>>7698879I'm thingken it turned out alright
>>7671952Blog?
Trying grayscale for the third time, too scared to fuck it up
>>7698880what do you get from dumping these mediocre portraits?
>>7699896He's a dadder, they gotta draw everyday. I cant hate for that
>>7699915you can. art is not a factory job. one should take their time to make it appealing
am i beg or int?
>>7700680High beg/low int
>>7700680midbeg at the most
>>7663142ok its been a while now and this now looks like complete dog shit to me
>>7701262I fucking love drawing, Avral Lavin is fine too.
>>7696141
>>7697546working on a new one. suggestions? I'm trying to match some of the concept art i've seen, i'll post a ref replying to this comment.
>>7702305This style
>>7702183I like it
>>7702305a little dark imo. I would locate a light source directly in the middle in the back of the photo, far back in the center of the bamboo. Then add highlights to the backside of Bardock and the motorcycle (and the bamboo) to brighten in up and tie it together with the lighting on Gine.
>>7702305I forgot to mention. Consider adding more saturated colors to Burdock and the motorcycle. If you look at your reference, all the subjects are brighter/more saturated while the backgrounds are mostly monochromatic. It makes them pop and draws your eye to them. Looks like you already had the right idea with Gine.
Never really posted in this general before. Are background dudes allowed?Rough colour key WIP I guess? I liked the line drawing better. Boomer grids are fun but I probably should have used 3D
>>7702425Line drawing in question
>>7702425love it
>>7702429thanks :)
>>7702439of course :) hope to see more of your work
>>7702305
>>7703570So it happened again
This you lads?
>>7703572>>7703570next time maybe try drawing what you see, anon.
>>7703620that's me
Christ, I cant get to the drawing tires in perspective chapter from Robertson soon enough.
>>7700680Midbeg if I had to judge, but I commend the dedication to complete drawings. If I see that something is off from the very start and I don't know how to fix it I just scrap everything and move to the next one.

Is this /int/ or still /beg/? Copied Himukai Toradora and tried to do her manga pose with his style.
>>7704135some here sre high beg at best but they pretend otherwise. the portrait guy has some serious issues, of thats even him doing it freehand that is. they look artificial
>>7704143>high begHell yeah we all going to make it
>>7705542Okay, but where did I go wrong here?
>>7703630You're right I don't trust my eyes.
>>7661035i’ve gotten into the practice of sculpting 3d models in blender and tracing them. i’m already a decent artist when it comes to sketching and drawing (not so much coloring), but the monotony of drawing an accurate base before being able to clothe or style it was getting to me. i’m hoping to also paint over 3d models to make full illustrations once i’ve gotten more skilled at blender. a la, photobashing
>>7661035where's the /beg/ thread?
>>7706003here >>7703723
>>7696244
>>7706219
>>7698912kinda late but @303wv on twitter
>>7706003Look around you.It's right here.
>>7703620Sometimes I wonder if I even know what fundamentals are
What’s up /ic/? First time back to digital painting in nearly a year long hiatus. New to iPad, just testing out as many brushes as possible in procreate to get used to the software. Any thoughts on the process outlined in pic related? I basically laid in a sketch with a transparent square brush, copied and smudged that, then used a the original layer with a subtract blending mode to get the old guy’s face looking grim. Next I used some opaque painterly brushes to add some warmth back to the head, finally reintroducing the original image underneath to darken it. Any level of finishing you guys think looks better than the others?
Beg didn't help, I was hoping I could get some advice on how to make this more legible. I feel that it's hard to decipher at first glance and I don't know what to do about it.
>>7707393the knights other leg is missing for one and his body is either too small or his head too big, dunno what youre going for. it might fit the style of this stupid horse gambling crap better. either way, there is size issues with the knight but i do like the motive. you should polish this turd
>>7707407Thanks, I appreciate it. I couldn't tell after staring at it for too long.
>>7707419yeah, its better to let a drawing rest for some minutes, get a snack or drink and then look at it again after 10-15 minutes or so.
Posting here cause I didnt get much crit in /beg/. Tried doing a pose from imagination wanted to get some anatomy crit to see if anything looks off, un-proportional, etc
>>7707631AI generated, that's not what real lines look like
>>7707971Lmao, I'll bite. what lines specifically makes you think that?
>>7706377
>>7708655i like your style, reminds me of BRINK and Dishonored, very expressive without being a caricature
>>7707631Besides the scratchy lines- The arm is bent which means that he should be more bicep dominant (bigger than the tricep) Speaking of the bicep, why is the deltoid inserting in the middle of it? the insertion is behind the bicep near the brachialis- but in your drawing's angle you wouldn't see it, it would just wrap around pic rel (Ignore the red looking up brachialis to make sure I spelled it right and this came up, which kind of looks like your pose)
>>7708655Looks like that guy from Diablo
>>7708699Man I wish Brink was better
>>7708699thanks lol, this wasnt that high effort of a portrait but im glad you liked it>>7708718never played, but in my book this is a compliment
>>7702339ty fren
>>7708655fixed up some small details, will probably finish working on it now
>>7709962dear oh dear
Honestly, once you got the theory right. What's the actual best way to click/traing on shading and lighting shapes/surfaces? I'm getting filtered by this not on a theoritical level but more on a pratical one. I exclusively draw with pencils and I'm starting to think that I should get into digital painting for this or buy some charcoal pencils.
>>7707407
>>7710131coming well together, senpai. it does look better and teh grill being bigger makes sense in a comical way since she represents a horse, right? good job.
>>7710134Thanks, but this was the extent of what I could do. I especially just guessed for how to handle texturing the armor. If you have any resources or further additions, I'd be glad to see.
>>7710138check some materials, like earlier berserk style might fit your shading type. keeping it simple works rather well sometimes. efficient.
>>7711323Okay but how did I go now?
>>7713727ngl kinda gave up half-way through
i made a doodle
I've redrawn the faces a hundred times but I just can't get them looking good, specifically the little girl, any tips oh wise sages? also just a general sanity check on the pose before I go further, hows the anatomy?
