what causes the decrease in soul here? usually the reason sketchy lines look better is an artist's lack of experience doing proper lineart, but here the right is clearly more polished and has the lineweight of a professional. yet, it still looks less appealing and visually interesting than the sketchy concept art, which is only intended to communicate the character design internally for development and not to appeal to the game's consumers. what gives?

There is no decrease, you're just a retard

Left has more subtle lineweight variation, uses lines to indicate shading, is not fully outlined in many areas, and has assymmetry and unevenness that draw your eye to the proper locations. From her expression, it also looks more like a candid photo or panel from a comic.
Right, first off, is quite obviously a promotional image. She is staring right at the viewer. Her posture is stiff despite the motion indicated by her zipper pull. There is no tension shown in the bandage despite it being pulled. It's flat. Her wrist looks exceedingly thin compared to her head and fist, she would get made fun of on /fit/ for it. The subtle extra lines in the left one that hint at her expression are gone. Despite the right one being more intense, her jaw is not clenching. There's a mismatch between the force applied to the bandage and her face.

The lines also look vectorized to me, and fully enclose her. This is for scaling up/down and pasting her over different other elements (bg, ads, website) for different commercial purposes. Doing this is ass when it comes to a lot of detail, so it's more limited You can see how the subtle shading in her hair was turned into smoother shapes instead of being painted in.

It's possible as well, that the pose was more like the left - confident and scrappy with her arms both down, but the artist may have been told to have her do the bandage pull to increase the punk/edge factor. The foreshortening on her upper arm is kinda weird looking IMO, and since artists like this deal with inane changes and the clock ticking, I think that lends some credence to this theory. Without asking the artist we'll never know though.

If it isn't a troll it's probably more like they're subconsciously associating refined renders with AI. Sucks, AI literally turns everything it copies into worthless garbage because it spams everything into nauseating levels of oversaturation.

It is wild to me that so many individuals will just uncritically accept the judgement of mainstream slop-factory corporations as the standards of what good art is.

Taste IS subjective but I seriously doubt people who do this have taste that's been refined through personal exploration, but rather are just using received opinions.

OP picked a bad example

AI has the same problems but lineart slop existed before AI

how many fucking times do we have to have this thread with the same exact answers man

Because polish can smooth away the quirks, energy, and spontaneous decisions that made the sketch feel alive; refinement often trades personality for clarity.

I like both :)

You seem knowledgeable in this anon. Stupid question: how do artists vectorize their art? Is there a specific lineart brush for it? The only thing I know about vectorized images is using line tools Illustrator, and afaik the way that works is very different from pen on tablet drawing

I unironically cannot sketch with colours, my autism always forces me to make another layer for lineart.
Any tips? Maybe guides or videos I can follow to break away from this autism?

Both are unappealing. Og Vi was better

Nothing to do with the lines. The values in the second are messy, in the first they are not. That simple.

>decrease in soul here
There was no soul to begin with

Right for corporate and sanitized.
Left feels rough and human.

Bad example or shit taste, the right is way better.
You're just bad at lineweight, that's all it is .

sketchs usually look more pleasing to retards because (its just a quick sketch with messy stuff) and people expect perfection when its final piece , as for other reason , sketches are often superior to lineart because they contain information about the object in question , depending on how the sketch line is stroked from its weight to its speed u can tell information about it , good artists can pull this off so their sketches alwasy look amazing .but in lineart this usual information about the object becomes the role of the coloring and shading . ur brain is tricking u into thinking it look better , + sketches usually are more messy that this don't go picking some social media shit telling u that their sketches are perfect
