ITT: "Art" "styles" you fucking despise.
I'll start with Birdie.LOOK AT THIS SHIT.LOOK AT IT.It needs no explanation.
>>7688669I don't understand how someone so young isn't able to improve their art at all in the span of 8 years. Heck, I improve a lot in just a few months. Now, 8 years!? How can you not be embarrassed to be 21, drawing for YEARS, and still have nEVER improved!!
>>7688669Where do I even fucking start.....Okay. Let's start with the lines.MAJOR CRITIQUE 1) SHITTY LINESThis drawing, as well as all of Birdie's other SHIT has absolutely NO FUCKING SENSE OF LINE WEIGHT. Speaking of line weight, The outlines are way too FUCKING THICK. And of course she gets the fucking collar bone wrong. *sigh*That leads us into....MAJOR CRITIQUE 2) ANATOMY<<OH. MY. SWEET. FUCKING. LORD. UP. IN. HEAVEN.>> THE ANATOMY.How do I begin? Let's start with the eyes. That's the most noticeable. The eyes are literally fucking touching. In real life that shouldn't be fucking even anatomically possible. Worse still, LOOK AT THE FUCKING MOUTH. It extends DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CHIN. That is genuine RETARDATION.Also, this hunk of SHIT only features 4 fingers on each hand. Humans have 10 fingers, five on each hand. Not even mentioning Birdie doesn't account AT ALL for the skeletal and muscular structure of the hand. And are those bat wings coming out of her... waist?OH MY FUCKING GOD LOOK AT THOSE EARS. Those look like....are you fucking serious? Do I even need to explain it?The hair has an incredibly noticeable severe lack of detail. Hair in real life is meant to fragment into both clumps and individual strands. Picrel, model Irene Nell.Do I even need to mention the nails?MAJOR CRITIQUE 3) SHADINGTHE SHADING. WE FINALLY GET TO THE FUCKING SHADING. It's:1) Too simplistic.2) Inconsistent.3) SHIT.It looks like there are multiple light sources in this image. PICK ONE AND SHADE FROM THERE. This is closer to PILLOW SHADING than actual shading. Not to mention the shading on the hair. Picrel is again relevant for hair.4) EPILOGUEI've probably left a LOT out. But I'm too tired to continue writing this, and I have to log in for work in 30mins.
>>7688681Can't imagine getting this upset over some Roblox deviantart junk unless you relate to it a little too much.
>>7688669how do people know this artist if their art is that bad
>>7688666Art that looks EXACTLY like its reference - basically where the artist acts as a human photocopier. What was the point? Why not just take an actual photo?Oh, and it's not a 'style' but a movement, but I fucking LOATH conceptual art. It's pretentious no talent wank.Everyone has ideas, but art is about having the skill in a craft to execute on that idea in a visually pleasing way. Conceptual art forgoes this to present something that's barely an idea, often having required no work, and showing absolutely zero skill.Fuck Conceptual art. FUCK IT!And fuck the hack critics who praised it, and fuck the morons who pretend to be cultured by appreciating it - we all know you don't actually like it, you're not above us, just admit it's shit so we can stop seeing this crap propped up like there's any demand for it (there's none).

>>7688799>>7688846i can't believe 4chin has went so full circle in contrarianism that we got normniggers saying this shit here
I hate the western faux-anime style that's in a lot of cartoons now a days. Picrel is an example but the DMC, Castlevania, and Tomb Raider series that have come out recently are also included
>>7688854*meant for >>7688836
>>7688856feels like Totally Spies was the only one that got it right
>>7688856I can agree with this one, that's definitely always looked ass. Especially in webcomics and indie games, you see it all the time where they're trying to marry weeb influences with like basic art school education and get the worst of both worlds.I know people like Last Airbender and Code Lyoko and whatever, not here to argue that, but at least modern renditions have all looked super uninspired and boring.
>>7688666There's a growing number of "artists" whose works are clearly AI traces. I hate their styles the most.
>>7688870The Teen Titans and the Castlevania animated series also did it fairly decently - though Teen Titan's goofy chibi(?) moments were a bit too over the top. There's just something so stiff and ugly about most other examples though.
>>7688666Modern comic art. It's such an unfocussed almagamation of artistic techniques with no direction and looks hideous. They give everyone the same same-face with the same pouty looking scowl. They draw way too many lines on the face, making everyone look like they're 50+ years old, especially the women.Despite being part of a comic, the poses never have anything todo with the story but are just cool action poses of the character looking strong, or if it's a girl, a pinup pose like something straight out of a porn mag.The colorist has no artistic skill whatsoever and just plasters his dodge and burn airbrush shit all over the linework. It's so fucking ugly
>>7688921And yet comics have much more overall cultural impact then slop like manga.
>>7688993Do they? Manga's sales are better. Media adaption of manga is only becoming more popular (while comics media adaptions are flopping harder and harder), manga and anime are obviously influencing current tastes far more than comics...So where exactly does your assertion come from? That superman or batman are well known icons? Yeah they are... thanks to the comics from about 70 years ago. Modern comics though...
>>7688993All thanks to Disney. No one buys comics anymore
>>7688993hahahaha no one even knows comics exist anymore
Let's stay on topic.
>>7688999>DisneyThey're getting into webtoons now
Picrel. This thread is for discussing retarded artstyles you find gross, not getting into autistic flamewars about types of peepeepoopoo.
>>7688921Broken wrist, derpy eye, monkey chin, CHRIST-mas tree on fire. The whole message is very clear.
>>7688993Manga have life-changing works, comics have propaganda slops that teach you to respect muh troonswomen.
>>7689016They should just draw them consuming onions and estradiol to make the messaging even more clear. Comics hate you, comics do not want you to be a strong male, neither physically nor mentally nor spiritually. (It's good if you want to fight for our greatest ally tho! :))
>>7689041The "superhero" RETARDED SHIT. Are americans even aware of HOW FUCKING RETARDED THAT SHIT IS???What's with the "superhero" SHIT??? What kind of RETARDATION sickness is that? Why is it only affects them???
Eleeza on instagram. She is technically very good but I cant stand the lines she puts all over her subjects and they end up looking like theyve got leprosy all for the sake of MUH QUIRKY ARTIST LINES. Looks like shes being doing it less though. Left some comments on her posts maybe it got to her heh
>>7689048I took strays from this
>>7689048She's awesome, the scribble lines are her signature. I wouldn't want a piece from her that doesn't have her trademark scribbles.
>>7689078Shes been doing it a lot less thank god cause it looks like theyve got some sort of disease. I can still tell it's her work when she doesnt do it.
>>7688993Western comics (especially the big 2) are in the gutter. They approach each panel like it's a painting or stand alone work instead of two pages READ as a whole. Made even worse by splitting these tasks into writer/penciler/inker/colorist so there's no unified vision. They also avoid any kind of paneling system (unless it's 9 and their deliberately throwing back to the silver age stuff). Their's basically no thought given to the actual act of reading the comic, it's stuck too far into theory about composition, rendering and maybe writing (if your lucky).
>>7689048>>7689080It annoys me when people make their art intentionally messy, even if they're like high/int/ or better. I feel you.
This stupid shit. "omg it looks like a picture!!! Bro I legit thought that was a photo. Ommmg u draw so nice that looks like a photo." You just know the retards that think this is cool believe some guy just decided to draw a balloon animal and he's just so good at drawing it looks realistic. Not a gridded out/traced paint the numbers copy of a picture someone else took. The entire idea of photorealistic art.
I thought of art I hate even more. This FUCKING guy. Utter garbage trash paintings. Hideous. No technique rushed bullshit. Everything is a stupid pop culture pun or a reference to recent events. No respect to art or technique. Just shit out slop as fast as possible trying to catch the attention of mindless of cattle
>>7689204>>7689216Based.
>>7688666Not really a style but I dislike anime art in general. Somebody put it perfectly by saying “every 21st century beginner artist starts to draw because of it and they all end up having the same bad habits and frequent mistakes.” It’s not so much the art itself, but what the art promotes. A lot of people that draw anime art also frequently dont study real humans because they don’t understand that anime is stylized and you have to know the rules to break them, which I find frustrating, especially seeing mistakes that could simply be solved by just drawing a real human.>>7689204This as well. I can’t stand photorealistic art and what it has done to the art community. Sorry that I don’t consider your photorealistic drawing of Walter White in black and white to be creative. The overreliance of photos in general are doing the art community a great disservice if I’m being completely honest

You should be saying to yourself "if he can do it, I can probably take a slice of that pie"Instead you seethe and grow complacent
>>7689281I don't like anime (sh)art either, in fact it fucking sucks. For example, I would like Octoboy's art a lot better if he removed the anime influence -- it definitely has a lot of potential to improve if he did such. The general "anime" style itself just seems really retarded and clunky, and it irks me that so many artists use it.It's like everyone's trying to draw fucking anime...not just artists with actual skill..*sigh*Picrel is a piece of his art from fuckIdon'tknowwhatyear of his OC.
>>7689317The tranimu influence in Octoboy's art is the clearest in the faces he draws (see picrel for another example).

>>7689381The African thing is so accurate. I was noticing that before I had become racist. India is the same. >>7689281>people that draw anime art also frequently dont study real humans because they don’t understand that anime is stylizedI despise this way of thinking, anon. If you want to get good at drawing anime, DRAW ANIME. You learn the rules by studying professional japanese artists. Using reference of real humans in order to get a pose or composistion right is fine, but you don't need to learn how to draw realistically first, that's just a meme. If you're not into anime art in general that's fine, I'm not going to convince you, I just think telling artists they need to draw from real life first before tackling a certain style will just result in a lot of time wasted.

An Oak Tree? R Mutt's Fountain? One and Three Chairs?>"No no, Conceptual Art is actually great, you just need to research it and look at good examples!"Secondly, I have seen enough of this type of work to form such an opinion, but if you're so confident conceptual art can be great, show me an example YOU think is exemplary; I'll probably still hate it - I won't be mean about it, I just doubt there's a piece of conceptual art that is so good that it'd shift my views on the movement.Though I will concede that I likely hate this type of art work because I'm not seeing it in the original context of when it was fresh and unique, and challenging people's perceptions of art - I would have likely found The Fountain to be a fantastic riot had I seen it when it was originally released in that context. However, I AM seeing these works in the later (modern) context that they're tired, overdone, lazy and hackneyed. They don't challenge anything, they just takes up space that could have been given to something actually worth said space (at the very least).Thirdly, have either of you thought a subjective opinion that you disagree with doesn't need to be changed? I can hate a type of art, have my valid reasons for doing so, and you can completely disagree with me. It's a wide world guys.On that note, conceptual art is antithetical to my definition of what art (in part) is; a display of skill. Placing the meaning before the craft is placing the cart before the horse. The Cart and its contents are important, but the horse shouldn't be ignored and neglected for it.

If I saw this in a gallery, I'd roll my eyes and swear under my breath. It's just loud spectacle. A loud rattling of chains, a random blasting of music, it's just a sophisticated jangling of keys for the adults - who I'm sure all stroke their chins and go 'hmmm, yes we're all puppets being controlled by the whims of others, hmmm, yes yes'.It also goes back to how I feel about art, and define it. Do either of these display the artist's skills in their craft? Did the picrel's artist build that room, or did they hire some builders to do so? Did the Puppet Artist even make his puppet? I'm sure he probably didn't make the mechanisms and programming that control it?It upsets me that I can't even really know who made what;Who makes Jeff Koon's works? Because it's not him.Who Makes Damian Hirst's works? Because it's not him. With gone from the intimate experiences between the audience and the Artist, to not even knowing who the artist was but having the commissioner/director take all the glory...Anyway, I think I've gone off track here, haha.

Likewise, why should I have to force myself to dig through work I don't like, just to satisfy you?I've seen enough to where I have an opinion, I've been to art galleries, and shows, and read enough books on art with enough examples. I'm open to changing my opinion if I saw an abundance of work that could do so, but to no one's shock... I just don't like this type of art. The most I can muster when seeing examples I don't hate is an 'oh, that's interesting' - they usually feel like an odd experience or spectacle rather than something to admire the visual craft. As I've said, the style is antithetical to my views on art.>i cbf trying to find stuff you might like when you're already set in your waysHey, that's fine, I even said earlier:>"have either of you thought a subjective opinion that you disagree with doesn't need to be changed? I can hate a type of art, have my valid reasons for doing so, and you can completely disagree with me. It's a wide world guys."Some people hate mint flavoured things, I'm personally quite fond of it, neither opinion is incorrect. There's no need to take my strong dislike of conceptual art as an affront to you or your tastes, anon.Like what you like and don't worry about it - though maybe don't go into threads about the types of art people hate and act surprised someone may hate an art you love.

>>7688669>>7689339I dunno, I kind of dig it.There's a lot of details to look at and it's not bland. It's an assault on the eyes but in a fun way.

You faggots don't seem to understand that standing out will only become more and more important as art begins to homogenize
>>7709164Standing out and being unlikable aren't the same thing.
>>7709168There's a reason ragebait become the meta on platforms like twitter. It gets engagement. I think people have stopped engaging with it as much, but you underestimate how valuable it is to just getting eyes on your work in this day and age.

>>7709237I mean rcdart made ragebaiting their whole persona. They were everywhere for a good couple years

>>7709396I mean, that mindset just comes off more as jealousy than anything. Like, maybe it's boring to you, sure. But telling someone they're wasting talent because they don't do things the way you would is cuck behavior.

>>7688666I call it the 'Bara-neonpuke+' it started way before Hades but I think Hades made it all the more popular. You can see it everywhere nowadays, in most of the BL shit comics that clog webtoons, indie/lo-fi/cozy games, etc. Its nothing but a wanna-be-Ayami Kojima vomitive travesty. Furries and rollaids love it , to no one's surprise. I wish it never existed.
>>7709225Those are varnish layers that preserve a painting getting old over time. They didn't look like that originally.
I absolutely abhor this sort of art style that a lot of progressive artists seem to converge to for some reason
>>7709910
>>7709910That's the female/lgbt visual language. Like how furries have a distinct visual language. How you draw is literally visual vocabulary. The communities you engage with, the content you consume, people you follow and admire, it all shapes your shape language, visual style. It's why communities tend to become homogenize over time and why free thinkers are so rare.
>>7688882>>7708507in my opinion there is nothing wrong with stealing from AI fags, if anything its the right thing to do considering the damage they've done

I'm ok with western style and I'm ok with anime style (both semi-realistic and cartoonish / super stylized, but there are many sub-styles, so to speak)But I fucking HATE westoids trying to mix anime/comic style, and that's like 70% of the art most games and western artists use today
>>7711357so, like anime eyes with a nose that's not just a dot?
marc brunet. anyone who draws women with masculine body fat while attempting sex appeal disgusts me. the way he draws deltoids is criminal. and his rendering looks foul
>>7709910>>7709912This stuff makes me sick.
>>7709365This is like if Smorky went to art school and still ended up a failure
>>7688669>>7689339sovl
>>7711470Smorky's art at least had appeal. Nobody talks about Smorky's art in a negative way, they just talk about Smorky's creepy effeminate, spouse abusing, dirty diaper wearing ass.Anyway, that calarts' student just had hideous aesthetic taste and couldn't make appealing art to save their life at the end there - I wonder what happened to them? Did they continue perusing art?
>>7709738I don't give a fuck if the woman "looks fuckable" just make them look intresting like you would do with every other character regardless of gender. Take a look of a random drawing I got, you could tell the type of character this OC is with simple but effective methods of story telling. What the fuck does Alloy's design about her!? >uh she has a bow and bow strap on her wrist>her outfit is steampunk indigenous gear of no defined origin >uhhh also looks like a real personLike fuck you man.
>>7689629ngl this is not a matter of style just subject matter>>7711521if you look up "where is rcdart now" you can find their new webpage they went back to the style on the left
>>7711608I mean, if you want to put it like that you could say that about anything realistically rendered, which is nonsense. Obviously the point is the /design/ style sucks.
>>7711608It's not the subject matter, it's how they use the references and don't do anything really creative about them that piss me the fuck off! I see this shit all the time with Triple A games where you could tell they got some college degree bum that just sucked the dick off their college professor and just draw the references they use rather than transforming it into something cool. It's like going into art Station and see the same generic fantasy art you see of some burning looking ranger guy or witch lady that they copy off lord of the rings. I'm not denying that on a technical level, "it's good" but it's nothing really doing anything new with the media. I don't give a fuck about this character because the design sucks and its souless!
>>7711622Speaking of uninspired AAA design, I can't stand the nu-D&D obsession with making everything a big dumb V shape. OMG, you made all the magic robes POINTY. Fuck off hack.
>>7711627Maybe because I'm more into cartoony styles but I hate how every Triple A game has to have the voice actors face on the character, makes everything so boring. Also the color palettes are always so muted, these are the same people that critic art students for not using their values right but yet these examples shown barely show any vaules or contrast or anything that makes it intresting, just a bunch of glorified portfolio pieces
>>7709947Do women like big noses? Is that what led to the "tumblr nose"?
>>7711930>Do women like big noses? This is purely speculation but small noses are conventionally perceived as more cute and feminine, most anime art styles push it to the extreme by making the nose almost invisible. Since these types of people often reject conventional beauty as part of their ideology that might explain why they tend to draw prominent noses.
>>7711930no, it likely started with loish and similar artists on deviantart, then when tumblr was made girls liked those artists then interpreted darker shading on the nose into being red, and then became an amalgamation of itself after tumblr artists only started referencing other tumblr artists and became more red and prominent and used in cartoons too>>7712405anime was not popular amongst the early tumblr crowd other than some magical girl anime at least not initially, only western cartoons, it got more popular later on
>>7711930I've been drawing a lot of men lately (because I draw too many women) and Guys have more characteristically unique noses. Seeing how they're women they may be used to drawing men and when they switched to draw women maybe they enjoyed drawing the unique noses or don't realize that cute has a lot to do with proportions, so they draw these monstrosities and it caught on... We need some nerd to make a shitty video essay about the history.
Picasso, modern art in general. It's just a subversion of society.
>>7688856Studio mir schtick is just being ugly.
>>7690334I'm not a big fan of his style either but I'd welcome him and his copycats over Sakimichan and her copycats from back in the day, holy shit, that was rough
>>7711372He's still way too influenced by his past career and it permeates everything he uploads
>>7690334I hate all porn art because they sedate the eyes and derive them of any soul or interests. Since once you give them any sense of desire beyond mere pleasure you'll have the audience questioning why they are consuming this shit.
>>7689339>>7688669if they lost the pride faggotry this could be endearing, reminds me of those old fangirl videos>>7688993I won't argue with that, western comics are, or rather, were kings.
>>7690334>>7717237>sakimi and csrin a non-technical manner, both are the same type of styleThey are both bland and uninspiring lewd works that desperately want to be seen as erotic.Even in the compositions, they are nothing but generic.Granted, most look at it for 0.1 seconds, hoot and howl for 0.2 seconds because tits and ass and then hop onto next tits n assEven as pornographic artwork, it's just not good and even some d/ic/ks on here do better erotic works.Maybe "safehorny" would be a fitting definition?Baby's first nude woman picture?Normie's illussion at being "cultured"?Both of them have so many copycats purely because the originals pull in huge numbers and the copycats want to be mistake as the original to make money and numbers. Those are all characters i like and i feel nothing, not even an automatic response>>7717245>Since once you give them any sense of desire beyond mere pleasure you'll have the audience questioning why they are consuming this shit.this guy gets itIf i don't long to desire to grab a tiddy from beyond the screen, stop wasting my eyes with slop.
This retarded samey artstyle all of these motherfucks draw in.
>>7717668Yes, Hudson, your retarded perma-pre/beg/ Tumblr shit makes you so fucking quirky. Just shut the fuck up and take the attention you ordered.
Tbh I hate all the anime porn on this board. Why do you people want to just draw anime porn? It seems like such a boring thing to do. You have an entire world of beauty and you choose to draw disgusting fetish art of exaggerated cocks and breasts and 90% of it is an anatomical nightmare that hurts to look at. What a stupid thing to aspire to. What a waste of talent and effort.
>>7717949Feel this way too. There are people in the single digits going into this who actually know how to draw massive tits and if you can't appreciate the whole human body then you're just intentionally trying to turn your brain into mush.
>>7688666Here's something that's a bit different. I used to loathe Masumune Shirow 3D / illustration composite work. Especially considering his traditional drawing and painting is so fucking good (and I still prefer it), but I've seen his 3D thing go from really crude and mashed together and clunky to producing some really interesting pieces over the years. The man lived on the periphery of mixing computer graphics and digital illustration and it eventually paid off. Now some of that work is some of my favourite. Just goes to show how artists can still innovate and change your mind.
>>7717949>animeNot to mention the piss poor rendering that they all fall in love with as well. I think this board is full of young people (compared to other boards like /tv/ ) because when I was a teen I was on deviantart wanting to draw anime girls then I grew out of it. Teen me would've loved this version of /ic/ now I think anime is so generic
>>7718759grew out of trying to draw a generic anime style because I hated drawing thin lines
I feel like i can stomach almost any type of art but for whatever reason picrel just disgusts me on a primal level
