THREAD CHALLENGE
Last thread I asked, but I would like for you guys to design a thread mascot(s) for /beg/ and/or /int/. It'll be included in most OPs and will hopefully give a sense of cohesion among this insane community.
No running jokes only regulars will get either, so make them appealing.

I can't help but think the "permabeg" anon would have long surpassed most ppl here if he had the same ""moral"" ""standards"" than people tracing, copying and using other crutches.
>>
>>7698321
If you mean permabegschizo, he just needs to pratice and study, he barely draws 1 hour a day and when he does he just draws the same thing
>>
>draw for 5+ years
>practice fundamentals
>copy
>gestures
>linework
>construction
>still can't make breakthrough
>still feel anxiety
>still drawings look amateurish
>only time drawings look good is when they are copied for observation
I am permabeg and i don't know how to learn myself out of it. Every day i forget things, basic things. I remember when i could draw in perspective, now i don't. I forgot. I remember when i knew how to draw faces, now i don't. When i try to recollect the fundamentals of it, the construction aspect, my memory fails me and i just eyeball shapes, except now i am at least aware why i am failing. But i can't fix it. I don't know what i am missing and it's something core, something that's not related to "just draw" and practicing. My brain literally refuse to give the knowledge i knew i have.

Sometimes you see a piece of art on social media and it changes something. Featured is a succubus designed by BasedBinkie on Twitter.
If I were to guess, I'd say the biggest problem is that I tried drawing such small figures on cheap printer paper.

I would hate doing that. I need different mindset altogether. I can't function like the way i do now. It's been months since i completed a work and i have no idea how to do it now, because i just can't get the exact style i want, i can't get exactly what i want. I literally back to square 1 trying to draw boxes and i can't even get exact 1-1-1 square box in perspective. I have no idea how people do it. Then i open twitter and i want to kill myself, because i can't draw those "warmups" posted there. And finally, i have absolutely nobody to talk to, i am right now, asking upenai, to advice me, because i am so scatterbrained and irritable i can't see myself finding discord art group where i would probably just call everyone talented to cope with my failure. I will probably just vanish after these posts, been years since i was posting on /ic/ and i hate the fact i am going to be forever.
>>

Hi all. I'm back for my daily humiliation ritual. Picrel is what I worked on today. You may notice that its unfinished. That's because I wasted several hours trying to reverse engineer this guy's thought process for picking tones for the shadows only to realize that he's cheating by using a multiply layer. I did ultimately learn a lot about rendering so I suppose this was a useful exercise. Now to see if I can apply any of these new skills to my own original work (lol)

yes, some people will naturally be better at picking up drawing than others. but unlike running, evolution has not selected for art, ever. so while being retarded is a disadvantage, whatever advantage someone has over average people is not likely to be too important.

I refuse to subscribe to the definition of "talent" that you people have created, not when it touches everything from heaven to hell. You can keep arguing with me about the technicalities of the word while crybabies use it as their excuse for why their pencil is up their ass instead of their hand. Enough.
>>
fun fact: if you follow a cake recipe to the letter, you will have a cake at the end.

your brain has a manner it's used to drawing. that manner might be shit. if you don't make an effort to change how you see and create art, either through thinking or seeking out information, don't expect to end up with anything other than shit when you're done.

if you are coloring human skin with a certain finish, whether matte or dewy, all the shades, lighting, etc. its insanely hard. i couldnt do it rn.
what i colored in my piece is relatively simple. can you not put down green for grass? cant color a rock? cant make a white bunny & brown robe?
like these are all pretty simple & uniform fabrics in a cartoon style. it would be different for realism, human face, etc

Idk about this shitty talent or not talent discussion, but if there's something that I can say after so much work is that "Learning" is also a skill. For some, there's a skill issue of literally not having the essential education or never having the proper "learn to learning" phase in life.
It's not really talent because it's a solvable issue, but generates a lot of difficuties as long the time passes and one grows older.
That and a lot of other factors of course.

>>
>>7698798
>>7698809
That's kinda philosophical and whatever I answer is probably bullshit, but learning to learn is something that happens mostly during our childhood, specially at school. It's more of a tacit knowledge than one that could be passed to you. You're supposed to test it a lot when younger and figure it out how to best yourself at that. But since profile comes from a lot of different circumstances, adults are broken down everywhere and prune to have difficulties in learning as a whole.
It's still solvable as an adult though by the mere logic of trying things differently until something works. You just can't try to do the same things the same and expect them to look different. So discard stuff as you go trying to improve, discard methods that didn't work, discard thoughts that took you nowhere, and continue trying until it works.
Later comes the part where we try to maintain what we learned. But that's another hole and another anon said I'm starting to have symptoms of dementia and I got scared for real yesterday.

the point of the analogy is that doing things the same way leads to the same results. so if your current conception of drawing leads you to making shit, you need to change it radically, not keep doing the same thing hoping that eventually something else comes out.

Try doing just a section and bringing it to the same level of finish as the reference. As for choosing shadows, just darken and hue shift the color in the light. you may need to saturate or desaturate depending on what's around it. Color can get more complicated depending on what you're doing, but keep it simple for now. I'd say you're better off concentrating on your observation skills. Drawing will carry your paintings and painting is just drawing with a bigger brush. Use bigger shapes when painting. When the shapes are placed correctly, you only really have to mess with the edges. Proko and many other youtube channels cover proportions and observational techniques.

5 fucking hours.
But for the first time to try this type of stuff - it's alright I think. I see where i need to add more volume etc, but now I'm gonna sleep.
What do you guys think?

Your values on the mouth are the strongest part of the painting. Your values become kind of weak in other parts of the study. Pretty good overall. A completed study, is a successful study. Great job

Art shouldn't be banned full stop. I get the rule on other boards, and it's not a hill I'd die on but in my opinion it's still kind of retarded if it's actually a piece of drawing an anon made. Damn boi I know it's your first time but make sure to reflect on how you can improve your workflow. birdgirl here (about to go to bed)
but just wondering, i dont have any plans on going professional in the future. it doesnt seem like a possibility
but when people say that artists struggle, how bad is it? like, how good does one have to be to be able to have it as their primary job?
how many years of training & creating does it take to reach the level of a professional?
also... what are the fields/routes that have the highest amount of professionals able to feed themselves?
>>
>pick up pencil

>what are the fields/routes that have the highest amount of professionals able to feed themselves?

>>
>>7699192
It's more of an issue in the broader commission market where the working artists aren't necessarily notable figures. Artists that are working primarily in projects rather than commissions tend to get those jobs through connections, so artists from places like mumbai or manila wouldn't be as common.
>>
>>7699202
wait really!?
idk if i could do that. i never look at nsfw as is
if i ever get to that skill level in the future... is there a way i can do it in a more artistic/romantic type way instead of overly sexual & it sell? like... a bit more tasteful
im more than likely just going to draw for fun for the rest of my life. but if i take a path of art, id like to do it in a way that doesnt make me uncomfortable
>>
>>7699192
they undercut prices in the commission market. if they were notable and had cheap prices, they'd be flooded with too many requests. so it's the entry level where they take over. porn games are a bit too high effort for that.

>>
>>7699221

>>
>>7699200
Finding work as an artist is more about connections than skill. If you aren't good at cultivating a persona or know people, you have to be skilled or at least intriguing enough for strangers to take a chance on you. So very skilled.

If you're good at social stuff you can get by with a lot less skill.

Porn used to be another solid option for socially inept artists but the market is more saturated than ever so you'd either need a hook, or be very skilled.

Another thing worth noting is online spaces are a lot more competative. You might honestly make a better living going trad and selling locally instead.
>>
>>7699221

>>
>>7699239
You can try socials but only do it if you think you'd enjoy it. It's a huge time and energy sink with very little monetary gain for the majority of artists. It can get you a lot of commissions, but unless you can charge obscene money for them you'll have to suppliment them with other work, and commissions have the worst ratio for time invested to money earned which can often make it impossible to actually do any other work.

Commissions are the first step to making cash as an artist but they aren't sustainable long term unless your cost of living is very low. The end goal for a social media artist is always going to be something like a patreon.

Sure:

To evade responsibility means to avoid or escape your duties or the consequences of your actions. It's about refusing to be accountable for something you are supposed to do or have already done.
Common ways people do this:
* Blaming Others: Shifting fault to someone else.
* Making Excuses: Using weak reasons to justify a failure or mistake.
* Denial: Refusing to admit you did something wrong.
* Procrastination: Delaying a task hoping it will be forgotten.
* Playing the Victim: Portraying yourself as helpless to avoid blame.
Why people do it:
The main reasons are often rooted in fear: fear of failure, fear of punishment, or a desire to protect one's ego. It can also stem from a simple lack of commitment.
In short, it is the opposite of taking ownership. While it may provide temporary relief, it ultimately damages trust, harms relationships, and builds a reputation for being unreliable.
>>
>>7699221
If you have a photo of your cat you might as well go out and look around, ask people if they've seen it. If it's an indoor cat it probably hasn't roamed very far and might even be with one of your neighbours.

If I can give a critique, I would say that the comic being horizontal is quite satisfying, but the amount of text is boring compared to the visuals.

Especially for an erotica comic like this, you want to go for minimal text and let the story explain itself with the visuals. Not a hard rule, but just the advice I have for this. I like it so far though.

lmao! I don't have any "strategy" xD, since I'm just making barely one post per thread, the least I can do is to make the most of it, and give some (You)s. If I wanted "attention" I wouldn't be here. This place is for lonely people having some silly fun just for the lolz. People used to have hobbies, you know, like playing guitar, growing shit on a yard, fixing old things. This is just as fun.
>>7699333
Thanks anon! Yes, I know what you mean, but I really want to write those thoughts and dialogues as much as drawing the pictures. I think I managed to do both things and have fun doing it. It feels really nice and rewarding when I can fit all the text I wrote in one page. It's like solving a puzzle lol.
>>7699350
Thank you so much anon! Yes these are just my own thoughts. I spend more time writing down these stories, than actually drawing them lol. That's why asking me to cut away the text is useless, that makes no sense to me. I would prefer to cut the drawings and do just the text ultimately lmao.
Maybe sometimes I come up with some phrases related to "The book of the new sun" in example, like in the previous page, the guy says that he feels like he can work out a way to satisfy everyone in that "demonstration", just like Severian says in the book when (Master Gurloes I think) told him that an executioner could please different interests at the same time depending on the way he presented the performance, one could work a visual illusion to please everyone depending on their subjective viewing angle.

I don't mind the amount of text, but I understand the criticism of it in a comic format. Have you considered going for a more illustrated book vibe? The longer you take, the least gesture they become, naturally. The point is for you being able to quickly gasp the general movement of things and people without being distracted of structure. The more time you take, the more you start adding details that doesn't include the gesture itself.
It's okay for you to take longer at start though if you are not used, but always try to get faster as you go on later sessions.

Quickly is 30'/1''. It just forces you to quickly capture the essential lines describing a pose, but if you only do that your proportions/anatomy will get sloppy. People usually recommend progressively taking more time as the excercise goes on, like 20 30' poses, 10 1'', 5 2.5'', and so on.

>>
>>7699707
nta and kinda unrelated but what do you use to sharpen your pencils?
>>
>>7699699
okay, just logically, think about it. the "less" talented or smart one is, the more you need to subsidize it with hard work, no? as unfair as it sounds, you have to work twice as hard if not more than others do. but that cant happen if you dont do it and dedicate every morsel of free time to achieving that. i dont believe in talent either way, but i believe in intelligence, intuition and study/work. blood sweat and cum is what its going to need and nothing less. cum because you need to relax some more.
>>
>>7699709
its a sharpener that says made in china on the back and made in germany on teh blade lol. its similar this one, but an older make: https://www.staedtler.com/de/de/produkte/bleistifte-und-zubehoer/spitzer/staedtler-510-10-metallspitzer-510-10/ and then i use a knife as well if i need it pointy

the blade on this one has been sharp for some 6-8 years or something, which is impressive.

i forgot, i snapped a picture to show some of the kouhai's in here how to approach a shadow heavy drawing, which is actually quite easy. now beware, this one is before some major fixes in size and shapes, but thats what your first sketch should look like. form here out you can actually do a lot with it sylistically, i went the most boring way and just filled in the blanks after correcting some of the sizes (take breaks even at this point). you could stipple this one, do hatching or something completely funky like a chickenscratchy shadow approach, you only need to beware of the values to achieve the likenss after having the correct outlines. its a lot easier with black and white pictures, because you dont have to analyze to heavily, but concentration is still key.

Finally bought a drawing tablet and started drawing again after like 1.5 years of inventing excuses not to. These are 1 minute gestures from yesterday (top half) and today (bottom). I did them without reading Vilppu, opened the book today and found I was doing them completely wrong lol. It's not a lot, but it is better than doing nothing. I forgot to save references to post them, they are from quickposes and sketchdaily databases.

Drawing on the tablet came surprisingly intuitively. There's the difficulty of drawing precise lines, but I think it will go away with experience. The only real problem is the workspace before the screen is impossible to organise in a way that doesn't tire out my hands or make it uncomfortable to draw while allowing me to utilise both the keyboard and the tablet. I hope stretches will counteract this.

I want to draw again tomorrow after watching the first Vilppu lecture. Ganbarou, anons!

unless it has a very coarse screen surface, yeah. It's your paper friction replacement, just use the basic mode.

>>7699939
yeah because according to the text your intention is to get us to look at his willie. After initially looking at the hand/head, reading the bubbles placed like that leads the gaze downwards, the space there is open so we fastrack further and flick towards his peeper.
>>
>>7699949
>leads the gaze downwards

>>7699933
No cheats only tools. The only forbidden thing here it is prompting your shit.
Using a pencil is not the same as using a brush, or a stick of charcoal, or an airbrush applier. Trad tools have that handling diversity, and digital tools also should have that same diversity. Stabilization is just a simulated "drag and weight" characteristic, which all traditional tools have. A pencil has a certain weight, it causes a certain amount of friction, a digital pen needs to replicate that too.

As long as you want it in principle, the longer it is the nearer the figure is to the observer, however, the "normal" cone of view is generally said to be 60°, you have to find your station point and project from there a such a cone to find out if the rectangle of the figure should "normally" fir in or not. This is very technical so you should study station points and how to find them (it's easy once you know the real measurements of your rectangle)

I need some advice frens. I've been loorning to draw for a while and I've developed some skills, I can more or less draw stuff proportionately, I can draw a sketch of a full body with all the limbs attached and the proportions roughly match the reference with varying degrees of accuracy, I can even use gesture to make the drawings less stiff, but there's an issue: all my drawings look like absolute shit. I studied from Brent Eviston who preaches confident flowy lines, yet all my lines are just ugly as fuck and I end up going over each line a bunch of times and everything looks like ass. Pic related for some examples, note that these are supposed to be "volumetric" which is why they're so geometric and less naturalistic, but the issue is that I can't seem to control my lines and every drawing looks so dirty. I look at other people's drawings and they don't look like shit, so I've come to the conclusion that I'm doing something wrong. I don't know if the solution is obvious but I'm retarded so I figured I'd ask for help.

okay now what about actual pointers on this specific piece instead of generic advice
>>
>>7700051
just about everything is wrong with it because you don't know how to draw or paint what you're drawing or painting
find a reference of a similar pose and use it, find a reference of a demon tail and use it, etc

I'm trying to learn how to use an actual drawing tablet for the first(ish) time, I like starting from a small point and working outwards from a wide space. I'm not sure why, it's just a function of my autism.
It helps me to have lots of open extra space because I like having empty room in a canvas for more ideas later. But when I zoom in, the brushes look worse. I'm still learning how everything works. Is there brushes that are good for being zoomed in or is there a setting or function that can help me with this?
>>
>>7700022
How long have you been drawing? You develop line confidence over time, so don't worry about it. Plus those lines aren't actually that bad at all.
>>
>>7700059
that lovecraft fella sure was a proto-chud. look at that deformed nose. i noticed while drawing myself. i like your style, very dreamy almost

the problem is that there's no idea behind it, so you can't really crit it, because it's not going anywhere

>>
>>7700098
what do you mean there's no idea behind it, its a devil girl pinup, shes going to be poking an angel cloud with her pitchfork. shes going to have clothes and hair and whatnot. there's lots of things you could critique like anatomy, or rendering skin or something
>>
>>7699714
What do you mean the head always comes out the sam way, even when you draw it from different angles?
>>
>>7700107
>shes going to be poking an angel cloud
what the fuck is an "angel cloud"?? Her pose doesnt suggest she's poking anything either
>shes going to have clothes and hair and whatnot
Then where are they?
>there's lots of things you could critique like anatomy
Different things for different purposes, I would have never thought this was supposed to be a pinup if you didnt mention it because there's nothing titilating about it
>>
>>7700094
well there are no light/shadows, those are part of the visual understanding of form. the devil is being seen from an angle, but there are no noticeable vanishing points. as for the pose and anatomy, it depends on what you were going for, you don't need to copy it, a ref would be useful in at least giving you a clearer picture of what you it want to look like.

i still think a generic look at fundies would be helpful, or some basic studies if you already know them.
>>
>>7700106
Beautiful, well done.

>>7700094
Adding shadows is generally the first step to making something look 3d. The tail is an extension of the spine so mind the sharp angle there.
>>
>>7700111
angel on a cloud* I assumed angels lying on clouds was a well known symbol, like devil girls holding pitchforks. also I didn't draw the tines of the pitch fork yet but shes holding a bar and there's writing that says poke poke.
"where are they" im not finished yet I wanted the pose and anatomy to be correct first, because I know it is wrong, there is something wrong with the arms and back, I've done studies, i draw, im not a total beg, like i dont understand saying draw fundies over and over like an npc.
"there's nothing titilating" its not really supposed to be porn, but her whole ass is out.
>>
>>7700121
so youre gonna draw angels on the cloud? How tall is this fucking image going to be? Start from scratch
>>
>>7700124
I was going to draw stab holes radiating light and the fluffy bottom of the cloud, and leave it implied that shes tormenting some angel up there

you leave my vertical canvas alone
>>
>>7700121
>i'm not a beg
bruh. if you know the fundies use them. maybe post something further along next time. yes, the pose is awkward and there's no perspective. you're only gonna fix that by either already having the knowledge or pulling up a ref and actually checking what's up, nobody is gonna be able to tell you what lines to set down in what coordinates to fix it.

On first glance, no. But i can see why staring at this for a long time would lead you to believe it is. It doesn’t need to be less stiff unless you’re trying to go cartoonier. This is good enough.

Not beg or low in btw. With more improvements to your already great rendering skills you’re well on your way to pro if you can replicate this quality faster and faster each time.

>>7700331
Look at this shit, no one cares about it no matter how hard I try
>>
>>7699207
This >>7699202 is not true. The Safe for work mainstream normie market is an OCEAN and it will always be. While nsfw options on the other hand, are just isolated rivers and many times niche opportunities.
Your style can have a huge appeal for mainstream (if you're birdstacy), you could do well, but "making a living" out of it, it's a whole different story, that depends more on the artist's business mindset. Look at Proko he doesn't make a living out of his art. Art is just a sub-product of another business. Either Marc Brunet, the guy made his own e-commerce platform, selling all kinds of stuff already sold in other places but, he's the one collecting payment on his platform. Others are art teachers, or have a career in art restoration, or interior design, or whatever other than making actual real "art".
Then, other artists are just too mentally and artistically wired to do nsfw, and that's a curse rather than a blessing.

The best advice any anon can get here, is to secure an income outside of the artistic path, so you don't end up ruin the one thing that gives you happiness. Having to do art you hate all day for other people, with a miserable pay on top of that, is one the most painful experiences a person can have. Cleaning floors will feel more healthy than bleeding your heart out on a drawing desk all day, hating your work. That's the catch, people want to pay for what THEY want. But if you create something that comes entirely from you and people love it, then that's a golden opportunity, but it won't last forever though... Your love for art will outlast people's love for it. So you need to prepare to protect what you love: "doing art for the heck of it". You need a job that pays for your artistic time. It is extremely rare to have it the other way around. Specially in these times when being an "artist of reference" seems to be an obsolete concept. Being a "famous artist" can't secure an steady income anymore.

I think your issue lies in there. If you're erasing the head, you won't really see what's wrong. Draw it softly with the pencil and go fix it in multiple interactions to better understand what's wrong.
Or just repeat it a lot, but never erase the former attempt.
In any case, the neck is too small or the skull is too big. You can start from there.

I'm trying to figure that out as well. Anime heads are notoriously subtle with how much the face position effects the look of the drawing. I don't think things like the Loomis method for traditional heads helps with the stylized heads but I could be wrong.
>>
>>7700372
there's no formula for it, you have to build an intuitive sense for a specific anime style by drawing it a lot.

Aside from that, if you wanna get really technical, draw a cube and carve a perfect* face from it

the 4 building blocks of drawings, they can be used as guides for other building blocks or exist in and of themselves

1. Lines
Lines connect things together, they can also be drawn arbitrarily if they reference some culturally established symbol (i.e a heart). Their simplicity makes them excellent guides for the most complex objects (i.e folding clothes, hair)
2. Planes
Planes are the second easiest to draw
3. Hard forms
The most difficult to draw, they are multiple planes bound together
4. Soft forms
Their form is not defined by their outer shape, rather it's how things are placed in relation to them (or on them) that they start to make sense in 3d space

i filled my notebooks with schizo doodles i didn't show anyone as a kid. to this day i still doodle for fun and throw the paper away even if i have much less time and opportunity to do it. even if you're not denying that it is possible to enjoy drawing for the sake of it, at least don't act like you know what people are thinking because you're "just that smart".

i don't have a problem with people doing it for the cash or fame, but when trolls and anons come here to whine about x having y followers or making money, that's a problem.

I believe that the only at the "only for twitter likes" is the key there. There's no wrong in seeking recognition in general. People want it at job, and want it at art. However, there's also the internal satisfaction aspect of what you do. If you live of just being someone who seeks external validation, it turns out not healthy and harmful.
>is the main reason 99%
Depends. I think it's relative to mood and intent of a specific art. Currently, I'm happier letting my most recent drawing at my side while working. It brings me joy and motivates me to keep going.
That said, I couldn't resist and bought a Brush Pen and a new Sketchbook too after what other anon said me. I'm just too curious to test those stuff that I'm not even drawing digitally for a while.
>>
>>7700510
I had 3 and 4 in the same mental category. Regardless, I agree it's useful to think of them as bulding blocks/elements of the next category. Sometimes you'll have a hard time picturing, say, a pyramid in a certain scenario, but imagining the planes its made up with is easier. The cune is the king though, absolutely everything fits and can be depicted inside it precisely

Think about who your character is and what she needs, wants, likes and is important to her.

maybe the hat and staff are worn but she cherishes them because they were a gift from her grandfather so while they show wear and tear they remain well kept and have a more unusual or interesting design than others.
is she on the road, does it get cold at night maybe she has a scarf to keep her warm or a full cloak, also some type of satchel or small backpack. Does she need the book to cast spells like a codex of some sort, if it's really important that should have a place on her like a bookstrap that is easily and readily available, maybe it's impossible for most to cast spells in her world without an actual book, if so the book might be reinforced or have accessories on it itself to empathize its importance. Maybe she likes pretty clothes and while she does understand that her clothes need to be useful for traveling she can't resist to have some vanity details on them like a large bow with ribbons hanging off her skirt or puffed sleeves or whatever you can come up.

I believe you're basing your "survey" on the niche interaction with people you can personally reach online in the circles you use. What I'm saying is that ALL of the content-creator user base of IG, DA, YT, FB, Tumblr, Twitter, etc, ALL of them are working in the sfw field. None of them can dare or risk to do porn and blow up their online scheme, but the point is, they don't need it.
You can say, ALL of the pixiv artists do nsfw! But pixiv itself, is a niche social platform. Any random xerox machine doing a 2 minute tiktok video with a sequence of trendy drawings of whatever, will have their DM box exploded with requests 24/7. Of course I understand that going down that route will require for a level of exposure that maybe you want to avoid, but doing nsfw opens the same door. Once you start doing commissions you gave your personal information anyways to collect that money. If you're gonna open that door, make it worth it.

Sounds like you got it, but for anyone else:

XP-Pen calls it Proportion.
Open the XP-Pen driver app (called PenTablet)
Go to Work Area
Go to Pen Tablet
Select Proportion

Wacom calls it Force Proportions
Wacom > Wacom tablet properties
Launch Wacom Tablet Properties
Under the Mapping tab, enable Force Proportions

Huion calls it Screen Ratio.
Launch the HuionTablet app
Go to Working Area
On the bottom left there is a drop down.
Switch the dropdown to Screen Ratio.

Gaomon calls it Screen Ratio.
Open the Gaomon driver app
Go to Workspace
Select Screen Ratio

Use your pencil as a straightedge to check what should align with what, take rough estimates of angles, and measure things. If you can, printing out the reference will make it easier when drawing traditionally but you can still do it with digital reference when drawing trad, it's just annoying.
You'd probably benefit from doing some line control practice as well, the wobbliness of your lines isn't doing any favors for your accuracy especially on the long prism.

Top left most is like 3 mins, the one to the right of it a full fuckin 10 mins.

I like the finished ones, but for the others it seems to me you're trying to construct them rather than capturing the action. Whatever your approach to gesture is, construction comes later

Tried something new, a mural from a very significant panel in a certain manga. It's probably the largest drawing I've ever done, had to put my hand as far as the distance allowed! Translating the hatching from the original puzzles me still, because whatever I do with the pencil comes out too thin. Only the elite among you will know what panel this is btw...

the reference image isnt really good to begin with, its a slightly lower res crop from a mid cowboyshot and it obscures patmans face, making his likeness appear slightly different. a lot of "artists" use this promo shot for some reason while there is better stuff to pick in the movie

Great job anon, 100% likeness achieved, I like how convincingly you solved the problem of the beard with an impressionist approach (this would've been a nightmare for me and I'd either have ruined the portrait or choose to leave him beardless, lol), and it seems you were able to plan succesfully and scale the drawing to precisely fit the width of the page. You could be making mad dosh irl drawing portraits of people and families, you know 6b-kun :), people pay a lot for trad portraits these days

i've seen some insane price ranges, especially as soon as youre established and somewhat sure. but i really like doing it, especially if i like a person/movie and whatnot or the image looks cool, drawing boring people from shitty photos could prove bothersome lol. i was also very warmed up today from 4 pages of hands.

monkeman doing stylized portraits. thats pretty awesome. right when i shoo'd you away from the studies thread. thomas, in the movie is troubled, angry, lonesome and thats why he has that stern look. if you ever get a chance, its a pretty cool film, one of the best of the last decade and lots of cool imagery for us doodlers to rip off from

Just choose an approach and stick to it, some people swear by Proko/Watt's CSI but I prefer the one in the Famous Artists Course, it's intuitive, easy to follow and modify as you go along, and (most importantly for me) it doesn't force the models into a procrustean set of lines which might not necessarily describe their movement

I find this difficult to believe, playing what? Turn strategy games maybe, but alcohol screws your reaction time, which is pretty much vital for success in virtually every other genre. For drawing, otoh, it might actually suggest other oath and ideas you normally would be too lucid to recognize and/or too afraid to implement.
