It's the colors, the cliche blue and orange is used a lot in AI because how well it makes everything look. That and it's a well constructed painting with a realistic style. Congrats.

It comes off as very purposeless. I get no indication of who this generic white woman is, what is the context, why is this important. Is she sitting by a fire? Why is the light so yellow? How did she find herself in this gaping blue void? Are we stuck in bluespace too? Where did her clothes go? You can ask all these questions, but it doesn't feel like you're meant to. But if you don't, you're not left with a whole lot.

It just doesn't really make sense beyond the concept of 'picture of woman'. And it does that well I guess, but the concept itself is pretty boring. And it's uncanny if you try to delve into it further. It feels random.

Like, this one: >>7707001
This works better. It's clearly a pinup, the outfit and pose has a good amount of visual interest. I get a better sense that there were some wheels turning in the head of the artist and there was a goal being worked toward here. (Ignoring that this is probably a study, let's pretend you came up with the whole concept if it is)
>>
>>7707080

You don't have to go toward pinups if you don't want, but your art does need a defined purpose. Drawing random shit you don't care about will always look uncanny and unappealing.
>>
>>7715167
no it doesn't. You can achieve depth without adding layers of context, story and narrative, especially in portrait. Personally im of the opinion that defining "purpose" worsens the outcome and results in the work being forced and unauthentic.

Not sure if this is a proper thread but is related to me getting back into drawing which even drawing traditionally requires me to use software to get it looking decent on a computer.

Is there a way to use clip studio paint offline? I have the latest version but I want to turn my computer offline for a while so I get less distracted. I wish I knew that before purchasing it but I just assumed perpetual license meant actually owning it.

(Related to the image but any tips on practicing symmetry would also be appreciated)

I discovered that apparently the original version (1.0) is permanently offline while the other updates aren't. So thankfully me being a cheapskate paid off.

Looks pretty good as someone who was just doing forearm anatomy studies myself. All the muscle groups look to be in the right spots with the right contours.

My only nitpicks are that the perspective of the wrist ellipse doesn't look right to me, and that I would probably mark the styloid process of the ulna, since that's an important landmark that would be visible here even in a stylized drawing.

Eternal Beg here,

How do I add more values and make the colored things look real?
I mean, they look fine under flat lighting, but when I try to give them some volume or make them look more realistic, they just end up looking flat and muddy.
I’ve read a few painting guides and learned some things about color and values, but I still can’t figure it out.
How do I add more volume without making it look off?
>>
>>7722674

But regardless to all, stop coloring on a white background, throw a solid color on there or paint over a photo. It shouldn't be surprising if lighting and color is difficult if you paint everything in an environment that deletes all the shadow and color.

Here is a collage of some of my more recent sketches. How do I make my art look less autistic? To elaborate: you know how Chris Chan, no matter how old he gets, his art always looks like an amateurs, like it was drawn by a kid? I feel that my art has hardly matured since i started drawing. It feels....autistic, so to speak. I mean, I am autistic, it's true but I don't want my art to look like that. Am I delusional? If not, can somebody HELP ME???

they look flat. learn more construction (drawing using 3d shapes), learn more about lighting to make it look more natural, learn more about proportions (the faces in particular are unpleasant looking).

bravo retard, learn art theory

>>7725952
Eyes are wonky and outta perspective, flip canvas regularly during sketch phase until you get a hang of nailing it first try. Lefthand shoulder also looks a little disjointed, apex of the shoulder ought to be a little closer to the neck.
Soften up the shadows on rounded surfaces and maintain sharpness on cast shadows and sharper edges to really sell the forms.
Vary the saturation and value between near/far shadows, and deepen the occlusion, shaded areas look a little flat otherwise.
Thing she's holding doesn't look like it's catching the same light as the rest of the piece, lighten/warm the facing surface.
Otherwise nice work, composition, and colour choice are great. mid/int/ tier

Can't believe no one gave you the real answer, it's the angle of her hips. The leg that's supporting her weight should push her hips up, and the leg she's moving forward should draw her hips down. But here it's the inverse.

There's something off about the rendering I'm not 100% sure about. Maybe too much softness? Additionally any feedback on how to improve the design would be welcome.

Just started learning shading fundies. If cast shadows are meant to blend in with form shadows, why do they not blend in with the form shadows on the stairs on the right? Are they not true form shadows because they aren't dark enough? Feels like that's probably the super obvious answer but I'm caught in an overthinking loop
>>
>>7727812
Que? There are no form shadows on the stairs on the right
>>
>>7727843
I thought maybe the plane of the stairs facing towards the viewer counted as being "form shadows" of sorts because they've darkened from turning away from the light slightly but I guess that's not true shadow so much as just a slight loss of light. idk i know im being retarded I think I'm just losing my mind from studying this nonstop
>>
>>7727931
Yeah, that's just a reflection difference. The darkening has little to do with lighting being blocked. The same amount of light is just scattered over a larger surface area (plus some other minor stuff like fresnel reflections bouncing light away.

Form shadows are when an object blocks light from itself

Cast shadows are when something else blocks the light

They're both made up abstract terms and don't really have any basis in reality. They're just places where an appreciable amount of light can't reach.
>>
>>7727259
It's good to dunk on ai shit but at least learn to recognize when it's actually ai. Takes a few seconds of looking at brush strokes while zoomed in to see what's up

Hi.
I run a monthly thread on /lit/ where we write stories based on a work of art posted on /ic/.
I’ve been trolling the /ic/ catalog & its offsite archive for a bunch of hours now, on the search for our challenge’s next inspiration, and (I hope this doesn’t freak you out, but) I’m fairly confident you are the artist behind these two amazing pieces:
https://warosu.org/ic/thread/7439223#p7465710
https://warosu.org/ic/thread/4468678#p4469644
With your permission, can I use either one for our thread this Friday?
This was last month’s challenge:
https://warosu.org/lit/thread/24640140
^(Crazy ride; perfect landing.)
Additionally, if you would like to be 1 of the 3 judges for the challenge, the offer is yours.
All this entails is reading the /lit/ thread (which I’ll post here), then picking your (at least) top 5 stories by Monday, when the challenge ends.
Whether yes or no, thank you for creating such wonderful images!

Your form is all over the place so the rendering doesn't really make any sense. I get the impression you're just copying from your reference, but whatever is going on with the pants just isn't working. I'd really recommend doing a couple good drapery studies.

Also, you're completely missing cast shadows.

Any good tutorials on cross contour/learning to see forms in 3d? All I've seen so far is vague advice or general rules about what lines indicate what type of edges.
>>
Do you think it's bad practice to use very minor assistance from ai when learning to draw? I piped my figure through controlnet, and look which parts machine made more better and try to copy and remember.

>>
>>7730456
it would be similar to anons redlining for you. but ai is more likely to make anatomy mistakes. so use ai for corrections but also try to see if anything looks off afterwards and adjust your drawing further.
>>
>>7730456
Nah dude that's what a lot of people do.
And once you get better at learning AI it makes drawing so much easier.
I'm not even joking when I say I spend less time on my sketches, and much more time running them through AI programs.
It's the future, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to gatekeep art.
It's no different than using the paint bucket fill tool

no rools only tools (only if you're already good).
If you are a beginner using any form of shortcut dooms you to NGMI status.

If you know how to spot all the mistakes AI makes it could help. But if you had the skills to do this in the first place, you wouldn't need the AI to correct your stuff. You can learn even more from master studies from artists you like. I see begs copying the weird artifacts AI makes pretty often, this would lead to a lot of bad habits. Lots of them can't even tell that their ref is AI. It will be hard to stand out if everyone trains on the same generic AI slop.
>>
>>7730769
I think the biggest issue is that AI output is just that it's really really boring. Taste is a thing you have to consciously train, and it really does take a lot of work to do so. But if all you practice is AI slop, all you're going to be able to think of is AI slop, which at that point, just generate it.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I've been very busy this week.

I know it's late, but if you're still interested in using either of those pieces for your thread, go for it!

I don't t think I have the time to help judge the thread but I'm interested in seeing what you guys come up with!
