Commercial illustrators, how are you finding the current job market?
>>7709707>illustrators, how are you finding the current job market?Dead
>>7709707I've been making a portfolio for illustration I dunno where to show it though
>>7709823Is it really that bad? Why do you think this is?
The number of illustrators has grown over the last few years and is expected to keep growing for a decade. Anyone saying illustration is dead needs to git gud.
>>7710372True, but that's also damaging to the industry on an individual level - the market is simply too competitive, driving down prices to an unreasonable level.Add on to this, though I know people here hate talking about it, there's no denying that AI is going to/already has done damage to the illustration market - why pay for what you can get for free, even if the end result is worse? Can't beat free after all.Worse still, we are living through a fairly volatile economic time, and many companies are being more fiscally conservative, and will penny pinch where they can. It's not all doom and gloom mind you, and I think anyone who says 'illustration is dead' is simply being an idiot - even if AI destroys the market, it just means you have to pivot with your skills a bit (like to web animation for example, which is coming back as tools like rive become more popular).
>>7710001Show it here.
>>7710509Here is one of the pieces, is this job worthy, can you give me a job
>>7710531I like your style. I wish I had money to burn, as I would hire you to work on a children's book if it were up your alley. My suggestion is to get a professional-looking website and put your best work on there. Also, you should get a mentor to help give advice on the business end. No one likes this part, but it's important.
>>7710531nta but to add onto >>7710540 might look into scanning that, or taking better pictures of your art, especially w/o the glare
>>7710540Working on a children's book would be great, and thank you for the advice >>7710630Im gonna scan them when I make some more illustrations
