They're pretty cool although the "scene" around here is a small group of creators trading stuff back and forth, everyone I've met in it has been pretty cool.

Yeah a couple as part of my new years resolution to do more projects along with studies. So far I've got stuff in ~8 different anthologies/zines this year. Upside is that there's really no barrier to entry and all you need is a pencil, some paper and a little bit of knowledge about folding paper. Even prebegs can do it and that's part of the charm. Downside is that it's such a niche space it can be a real struggle just getting eyes on your work.

Zines are cool, though it's a case by case thing, as anything is.
A cool zine, that's essentially just an artsy indie magazine or comic is always fun, but then a lot of zines are wank fests that are like little diary exerts or art books by people with little to no talent.

Crumb and the hippies did a number on it and instead of getting a sincere alternative to main stream comics we got gremlin people in SOL slop for 90% of them, that's my thoughts on it.
