Is this acceptable for 10 years of progress? How can I improve more, I feel like i'm very stuck, theres a lot more art in between that I can post if anyone wants to see more evidence

OP again, for more of a smaller timeframe progress this was my 2024-2025 sketchbook
>>
Do artists that don't progress not even in a decade actually exist or is it just shitposting?
>>

You forgot about Dobbles.

Just look up Gabe lmao

It looks like you've been relearning the same things over and over again instead of trying something new.

So no, this is pretty bad progress.
>>
>>7711543
>>7711546
I don't know who any of those are.
>>
>>7711539
I'm not shitposting, this is all my art xD

Got any specific examples? I try not to just draw the same things over and over because I got in a rut where I just drew head busts for like a year so i try do bodies and poses in almost every drawing now, what exactly can I do to improve? I do lots of reference drawings and I basically just constantly sketch poses from Japanese Pose Books to help with anatomy

Draw a car, draw a flower, draw a house. There are a million other things to draw besides people. You might find that learning to draw perspective for a car comes in handy when trying to foreshorten a limb. Or how drawing a garden teaches you how to abstract detail. Or how drawing a house teaches you to pay attention to proportions.

You're not going to learn much of anything beating your head against the same thing repeatedly.

damn, ive never even considered drawing anything else lol, ill give it a go thanks

critically low levels of appeal

I mean, you've clearly progressed, but you could speed up your progress by 10x just by doing lots of gesture drawings and anatomy studies.

it's fine. you were what, 9 years old in 2014? you'd progress more if you went all out on pieces instead of being timid and only doing portraits with vague backgrounds. draw everything.
>>
>>7711679
Not really, i just recently opened a newgrounds to post art 2 days ago, mostly I just draw for myself
>>
>>7711695
I was 16 in 2014, im 27 now, but I do get your point. I originally wanted to get into big illustrations and not just characters but It always seemed an impossible task, Ill try do one though, thanks, more of a composition than just a drawing
>>
>>7711695
I have experimented in the past with that sort of stuff but never that detailed
>>
>>7711530
it's over

How much did you draw in those 10 years? How often do you take a step back for a month or so, and then tried something completely different (eg new brush, new workflow)?
>>
>>7711539
don't worry. you have to be literally autistic for that to happen
>>
>>7711532
>soulmaxxing
honest question but whats your drawing routine look like? how many hours per week/month do you put in? any exercises you do or any artists work you do master studies from?
I think this is on the bad end of the progress spectrum but not completely hopeless
>>
>>7711530
Seems like a normal degree of progress. People hyperfocus on the like 2% of artists with a high degree of talent who make amazing rapid progress, while overlooking the overwhelming majority of people who make modest progress over a long period of time before topping out. They then shit on people who don't achieve the prebeg-to-pro in 5 years goal in order to convince themselves that said progress will be their progress, as opposed to the less shocking normal progress.

I draw almost every day and i try to do a full colored illustration so its about 2 hours a day, excercises no, i did master studies of my favorite artist Range Murata but i felt like i has no idea what i was doing, people always say art school is a meme but i feel like i would definitely benefit from a lesson based structure to advancing rather than flailing around unguided
>>
>>7712565
a colored illustration in 2 hours? how about try focusing on accuracy and cap yourself at like 20 hours. even for pros 10h+ is totally normal for bg + character fully rendered
>>
>>7712571
Wow thats a long time, my drawings are so simple i dont think i could take that long even if i tried, but i get ya, try use the extra time to ge even more detailed, ill give it a go. Ive got a simple drawing i started earlier today based on se feedback of trying to do more backgrounds instead, ill try take my time with it

Not sure if its what you people were talking about exactly but I branched out and spent all day drawing this, it's not an anime girl, its perspective and has a lot of background work, simple but I love the game this is based on so I thought why not, I actually think it turned out very good (though the perspective is a bit wonky still) I get what ya'll mean about branching out because this was a lot more fun and fulfilling than just drawing girl #100
