Is "pleasing to the look at" all you need for your art to be considered great? I'm not talking about pretty flowers or a girl's toes. I mean when a drawing just looks good in general. No matter the style, the content, or whatever. When everything seems to fit. When everything seems to belong where it is... When nothing looks "off" or out of place... Is that all you need for your art to be considered good and acceptable? Even if the fundies aren't really quite all there (Thought most of it is)?

I'm sorry. I am drunk.

I think it's been proven many times on /ic/ that SOUL > everything else. You could have beautiful renders with 10 different light sources and vibrant colors. But if it looks AI generated, it's soulless. Meanwhile some 12 year old can draw some goofy thing that resonates with people, 20k likes/upvotes.

I'm trying to make a manga. But my art is terrible. When I look at professional manga, I notice there's something about the art that makes it instantly recognizable as a pro's work. That happens no matter the style of the art, the mood, or content. And I'm trying to figure out what it is. I want my own work to be like that.

Could be panel layout and composition. There's much more planning involved than just drawing, even if the art style isn't high skill. I don't know since I haven't seen your work.

>Is "pleasing to the look at" all you need for your art to be considered great?
to a degree yes, but this is going to take some understanding of the fundamentals of art in general to be able to do
for example the pic you used demonstrates good knowledge of:
>colour theory
>perspective
>shape language
>character design
>form
>lighting

>. But my art is terrible.
nigga please! i have seen mangaka whose art is not the best but the manga still has fans
if you look at older manga or more amateur manga, you will see this more often
this guy >>7724498 is correct that composition is important, i feel that paneling and composition go hand in hand
what do u guys think of atypical paneling btw?
>>
>>7724498
Tsukumizu's work is the perfect exame of what I mean. How does he do it? I think composition makes a big part of it too. Either way, it still kinda applies to what I said on OP. His panels are very nice to look at.

I love atypical paneling, it's so expressive.

I will write a bit as I have thought to myself, the same question

great as in? profitability? The ability to move human heart (as in soul)?

it is a pretty simple question, just make design decisions for your goal.

lewdness for pornography, panelling and composition for storytelling, accuracy for industrial drawing
If you want to appeal to emotions like love, maybe add neoteny to your medium
If it is a prototype that you wish to get an idea across, maybe sketches with roughlines look cool

all goals have an assortment of design decisions of varying weight, and your job as artist is to make those decisions
