What are the biggest beg traps?
Spending time on 4chan instead of drawing.
>>7724359>What are the biggest beg traps?deciding to try drawing instead of something I could potentially be good at
>>7724359prompting AI-slop instead of drawing my own related picture
>>7724359i'd say it's choosing a new artistic medium immediately after trying something and not being instantly good at it. i've jumped around from pencil art, digital illustration, fucking perler beads, pixel art, and now i'm sticking with blender animation just because i can make use of other people's assets because i'm a permabeg.
1. Making threads on /ic/2. Replying to those threads
>>7724443Quickly A/B testing is a good strategy, though. You shouldn't go all-in with the first medium you try.
>>7724503yeah i am kind of glad that i looked around and found a medium that's compatible with my autistic need for order and control. other art forms are too messy for me. however i would advise against spending a bunch of money on materials just to find out that you hate a medium.

Believing that repeating "Just draw" and "Posting on 4chan" is a valid answer, because anyone serious about it knows art progression is about learning fundamentals and not aimless practice.
>>7724941What are fundamentals?
>>7724961Learn gesture and form. Then learn composition and values. Then learn anatomy and color.
>>7724359loomis before learning copying/observation is how they got me
>>7725062Jim Lee never learned proper anatomy, apparently. He just learned how the basic muscle groups interact. But he's still the most famous comic book artist still working. Anatomy is just not that important, but artists like it because it has unambiguous markers of progress.
>>7724359Giving up.
>>77243591. weeb shit2. tracing
Easy. Playing it by ear, improvising without a plan of action to tackle a drawing. Allowing yourself to get over ambitious about making a piece of art without having any evidence that you could create it. Mountains of unfinished work.

>>7724961What >>7725048 said. Learning to execute perspective rather than just drawing. Learning anatomy instead of just drawing what you think you see based of little to no knowledge. Learn these things and don't just practice, people post "10 year difference" pics here all the time showing people who drew bad anime like children that can only draw bad anime like pre teens instead and ask "How does this happen" as bait. Why? Because they drew every day and never learned anything.

>>7725680And if I drew and didnt learn shit what canI do?I cant even copy properly but everyone seems to be able to get it from day one.I dont knowif I have been drawing wrong and if I can correct it and get better but if I cant thenwhy do I keep drawing?
>>7724359"its my style"
>>7725680>>7725710Hypothetically speaking lets say I fucked up big time and want to start over? What can I even do besides roping? All those years wasted and didnt learn shit what can I even do anymore?I drew and never got better and saw anons getting better in weeks than me in years and I doubt I can learn.I am starting to think I just wasnt born for drawing and everything I do is negative.
>>7724359techniquefagging instead of making finished work that looks good
avoiding drawing what you are bad at, thinking you can practice other stuff and come back to it later, when you should've been addressing your flaws head on. the real wall is trying to understand something on your own. critical thinking is hard for a lot of people, and a big mistake is seeking out answers elsewhere to avoid the mental strain of solving the problem yourself. if you learn how to problem solve, instead of feeling discouraged when you hit a wall, you will see it as a problem to figure out how to solve, which becomes more fun challenge the less you run away from it. this seems to be the usual problem with artists who stagnate and don't get passed beginner level. i'm not saying you shouldn't ever look for specific advice, but trying to find a pre-made solution every time you run into an issue will stop you from growing. ALWAYS try and figure out a solution yourself before looking for advice/easy methods. practice all you want but 10 good practice hours outweighs 100 bad ones. a good chunk of real practice should be tough on your brain. you should ask "what do i want to study the least?", and study that. do fun stuff, too, but if you can't figure out 'how to learn well' for yourself, you won't make anything interesting, you will only copy others and paint by numbers. disclaimer: i only started drawing two weeks ago.
>>7725717Anon, I don't want to sound unsympathetic because I do sympathize, but your negative mindset is not helping you. First, you might have made more progress than you think. Artists can be hard on themselves. Second, you probably need a tighter feedback loop on your art. Some people learn better with an artist standing over their shoulder, pointing out mistakes and giving advice. You might consider art school or even art tutors, if you can afford it. You should definitely look into a life drawing class, at the very least. Third, I recommend checking out drawing books from the library and studying them. This helped me when I was in a rut.
>>7726056What books helped you?
>>7725710>>7725717Copy masters.Copy ones you love.Study details and learn structure, learn memorization, try your best to copy and observe and notice what artists do then memorize it by copying away from the reference.
Kinda related but I wonder if my heavy use of references, looking up pictures, posing myself, is making me not improve. The artwork is better but I'm not exactly memorizing textures or anatomy and such
>>7726082I want to believe I can still start from 0 and try to get better but everything before is telling me otherwise.
>>7726078Bridgman's Drawing from Life, but I mainly draw from life instead of study books. The books are more of a supplement.
>>7724359>What are the biggest beg traps? Not drawing
>>7724359 (OP) >What are the biggest beg traps?drawing too much. trying to draw landscapes/people/still life before you've mastered cubes. wasting time trying to 'finish' a bad drawing if it doesn't start out well when you could be drawing cubes. we have limited spiritual energy, and trying to draw more complicated stuff is a waste of that energy. cubes expend less energy to draw, while drawing something that sucks does negative psychic damage to you and should be avoided until you're ready. treat every line you draw as sacred. making mistakes and drawing shitty art and saying 'it's ok i'm just a beginner' is being WAY too permissive and instilling bad habits. true artists have never drawn a bad line – they waited until they were ready to tackle more complicated stuff. the moment you get too overzealous and start drawing shitty art is the moment you are led astray. art is like a church, shitty art is a defilement of a sacred place. you will be kicked out and never allowed back in. forced to wander and beg – forever!
