How do I even get started with drawing complex plants? It's such an incoherent mess of shapes it feels impossible to break down or simplify. Even in a sketch like this, I can't even begin to understand how to emulate it.

>>7724593those plants look pretty darn good when viewed as a thumbnail, but they fall apart into a mess of shapes when zoomed in. i think what you're doing already is good for a realistic style, but if you want to draw plants just as plants, try looking into visual novels like Wings of Fire, which features a lot of jungles. the artists don't try to draw every single leaf, try using a lot of implied lines and rely on splotches of color to suggest foliage at a distance instead.
Check out "Stephen Travers Art" channel on youtube. He draws exactly what you are asking for and gives a lot of advice

Anon, that composition is rough. I can't read the scene as a thumbnail. The kid's head should not overlap that combine (or whatever it is) behind him. The grass is too busy as well..
>>7724632That being said, I love your style and looked up this image hoping to find a blog.
>>7724632>>7724636Are you R-tarded?

>>7724593Check our Stephen Travers Art on youtube. He's a pretty decent artist, and he mostly does landscapes/plants/buildings, so he has a fair few videos on perspective and plant drawing.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn7dA-SBpig
