just keep at it with the hands, it'll click eventually. i've been trying to do them with the bones in mind so the placement is logically sound. you should try to draw some skelly hands from reference and then memory just to ingrain the anatomical design, helping you to draw real hands. but your feet look good. thank god the toes arent as complicated as fingers

what pencils are you using? It seems you're using a sharp point. I can't go nearly as dark and clean with mine.

Also I'm noticing vast improvements over your earlier drawings posted, a lot cleaner in every regard/better readable shapes, so it seems you're quickly regaining your skills. The legs of the middle one seem a little bit off, and the pose is perhaps too exaggerated, the lower back seems to stretch out too much (but then again I don't have the reference so who knows)

keep on keeping on, its not as bad as you think. confidence can get you really far. in the end, its literally all in the head, what you do and what you perceive, so going in with positivity and a certain amount of chris-chan like delusion can be a lot of help. you have to think like a master to be a master.

>>
>>7727689
looks cute, no homo. reminds me of kuro from sekiro, but i suspect its gacha? maybe? either way, recognizing ones mistakes is vital, redrawing is not a bad thing at all. if anything its the best you can do, instead of leaving mistakes as they are. try to recognize what exactly it is that you do wrong more often than not and work on that and be aware of it. i personally tend to make long faces stemming from long noses, looking all alien in the end. i tend to do the same with hands, where they are just longer than they should be, instead of compact, closer to spherical when closed, not eliptical.

put the brainrot on autoplay on the side and do figgies on the main screen/part of your screen. i too, need to give my brain something to distract itself with in order to attack my doodling. music, podcasts, audiobooks, youtube etc. music obviously works the best in general, because its ever so light of a distraction and also gives you emotion and energy depending on what you listen to, it can enhance your subject and training.

> do i learn to do fast figures accurate or accurate figures fast?
I would only go for speed. Do those timed figure drawings. The whole set dont skimp because 30s is too short or because you don’t know how to fill 20min

10x30s
5x2min
4x5min
2x10min
1x20min

I have always heard that the first 30s should be the same for every figure, and likewise the first 2 min, the first 5 min, and the first 10min etc. It’s like you always start a figure like you are going for the full 20 or longer, but then once the timer expires you just stop and move on.

>>7728991

i think it will take a while to reach hundreds with my 30ish minute approach. i dont want to just do simple gestures, these slightly detailed ones feel like they help me a lot. the foosball ones felt really good when drawing mostly.
>>7729280
i think feet are easier than hands, at least for me. but i did draw them more for a while, because i had feet fever for like a week and copped some porno imagery and only drew the feetas. i can see why people are attracted to them now, despite only appreciating their beauty in an aesthetic sense now. cute feet are cute. you should draw some several feet from a buncha picutres/models, it'll be easier after that.

feet are a weird shape to get wrap your head around. Like a duckbill with a ball at the back. What helped me I agree with the another anon though, they are much easier than hands. I would recommend going to the lineofaction website in the OP and doing a bunch of time sketches of feet, that definitely helped me.

these are a few I did from imagination, which is my ultimate goal. I think I need to work on proportions and shoulder/upper body anatomy.

This is great advice, anons! I'll make sure to take your suggestions to heart, don't doubt it. I suck at time management. 21 minute video meant I still had 39 minutes for 9 figures for the hour, but I had to rush the last 5 in like 14 minutes, including 4 minutes of overtime. Gotta be stricter
>>
>>7732970
i think time restrictions are stupid. take however long you need to get it right, especially in the beginning. speed comes with experience.
>>
>>7732995
>speed comes with experience.
I'd say speed comes with confidence, and confidence comes with experience.
But drawing with a time limit can also help with learning confidence. You can't fuss over every detail when you're running out of time, so you need to trust yourself and just go with the flow sometimes.
Also it's just fun to challenge yourself in different ways.
Doesn't mean you can't take it slow as well, they're not mutually exclusive, but I think there's a reason timed gestures/figures are one of the most common things you find recommended.

689 KB
689 KB JPG
>>7732995
while you're right that speed increases with experience, thats not all that timed sketches are about. Doing timed sketches forces you to only focus on the most defining aspects of an image and to draw gesturally, along with increasing speed. You do have to give yourself a reasonable amount of time however, depending on your skill level.

i've been trying to study hampton gesture lately but i'm still struggling sometimes with figuring how to start and where from. one page he suggests after the head to first find the axis of the rib-cage and pelvis then denote said axis and place the simple shapes down. but i feel like this makes it harder to place the gesture down afterwards. i saw him in a video he tries to place down about 4 lines for the spine but unless it's a pose from the back i find it hard to figure out each part of said spine

I have been improving slowly but I feel like I am missing something crucial. My best guess is that I'm just aping what I'm looking at without understanding how the human body connects together. Or I just haven't aped enough and the understanding will come eventually.
>>
>>7747306
I can see it getting there, just need to work on proportion. Also a little trick that I do redline my own drawing, it helps with seeing if I understand what i'm doing and also help with moving on to the next drawing without dwelling on it too much.

gestures like that don't really have a fixed formula, the gesture for a backview will not be the same as for the front view. You really don't need to worry about exact placement/count of lines, do whatever feels best for you (my "gesture" is literally just a single line per body part, that actually feels best for me), as long as it captures the pose, and more or less is proportional (but even the proportional part doesn't need to be so, that's just how I do it).

yea i remember that's something he mentioned in a video is that gesture is just for "you" and everyone's way of laying it down is unique. i guess i still feel i might be doing it wrong and trying to limit yourself to less lines i feel could help to make my marks sooner and cleaner, especially if i try to do timed gestures
>my "gesture" is literally just a single line per body part,
do you have any examples?

Hey, so question about gesture.
One of my preferred exercises to do is 2 minute figure drawings, and those rely pretty heavily on gesture. But I have a problem, which is every now and again, I'll run into a pose that just has like, very little to no gesture. Or the gesture is very, *very* subtle.
It makes finding action lines very difficult or flat out impossible sometimes. It's fucked up because I love doing the crazy, whacky poses with lots of crazy gesture or perspective, but more neutral poses I completely flub up.

Is there any way to easily grab the action lines for subtle poses? Or am I just approaching this completely the wrong way?

Feel the form, draw it fast. For me I spend the longest amount of time in a gesture looking for the shapes to throw down. The actual lines drawn are very fast. This is a good pose. Her feet are in tension. Her legs are long, You can push her into the ground. Maybe think of it like where its heavy go hard on the lines, where she is relaxed go easy on it.
>>
>>7748152
where do you get your references from? these all look sick! also glad to see you back then B) im sure more familiar faces will be in and out, usually how it works it seems

First ten took a little over one hour, while the last two almost took an hour each, a large part of it being the faces. Kinda feels bad taking so long because of it, but I also know I won't get better if I don't do them and put some time into them.

>>7748012
I also think these neutral frontal poses are really hard. I'm still figuring it out myself, but what helped me is to remember that figures and especially gestures can be exaggerated to get stuff across. TG already touched on it, but her feet are stretched and tense, so really emphasize that. It also looks like her right(out left) shoulder is pulled back a bit, so I exaggerated that as well.

With the line of the torso I try to match the spine, and that's about it in terms of anatomy, the other lines are just indicative of the placement, nothing more. I also included a second step, since you could still consider that the gesture part, where I try to make the perspective more clear based on landmarks of the torso/basic shapes, and also the center line of the torso. All of this isn't super exact, and it isn't supposed to be, I'm not super committed to the placement, I can always correct it later, but with this the overall pose, the placement of the parts, and the basic perspective is made clear (to me).
>>
>>7748612
(also note that I fucked up the placement, the hand holding the revolver is cut off, normally I would restart or measure properly before starting)

I think for more subtle poses you can find gesture in the individual shapes rather than the whole figure. If you watch western comic artists draw, they tend to construct figures with "gestural shapes" so even static poses can have a lot of movement to them.

Thanks friend. Im not the most most well read person, so I can't recommend any books. 90% of my knowledge comes from David Finch's youtube channel. Im not particularly into comics, but his videos are a deep well of knowledge of drawing fundamentals and practical advice. I've also learned a lot from his streams from him answering random questions. The other 10% is random youtube videos about drawing fundamentals and word of mouth from the interwebs. Embracing the grind and drawing the boring stuff for the sake of learning is massively important.

One specific thing that I don't see recommended enough is practicing shape manipulation. It really helps with weird poses and foreshortening, and forces you to think in 3d.

As far as my process, I usually start with drawing the torso-bean, then break it down into the ribcage + hips. Ill then draw a center line to help identify what the torso is doing. Then I draw the limbs with some gestural shapes, keeping muscular anatomy in mind. Everything else is just filling it in with simplified shapes that I observe in the reference, or just winging it.

Man, you did that beautifully... Reminds me I still have a long way to go lol
>>
>>7749265
very interesting, thanks. Using the beanbag makes a lot of sense actually, I think I'll try using that; now I use completely separated constructions for the ribcage and pelvis, which often makes it hard to place them correctly with regards to each other, often being ending up with a stretched out torso. But using a bean bag first (and practicing with it so I understand it of course) will probably help fix this.

The shape manipulation tip is also very useful, I've been thinking about learning just simplified forms of the body and just manipulating them, anatomy helps you understand why certain shapes are there and see them properly but not much more than that.

Funny how everyone seems to have a different process.
