What do you think about this year 'tober prompt?
>>
>>7730692
how do you even draw 'weave'?
>>
>>7730802
A basket?
A loom?
A street race?
A boxer?

There's any number of things you could draw
>>
>>7730806
>basket
yeah... the famous term "mongolian basket weaving imageboard" is a thing, so maybe we can use that
>>
>>7730692
I like it better than last year's list. Last year the list felt like it had an underlying theme (like "outdoorsy"). To me, that was too limiting (though in hindsight, I should have embraced that since the thing I like about Inktober and prompt lists in general is that they force me to think creatively within the limitation imposed by the prompt)
>>
>>7730692
does ballpoint pen count for inktober?
>>
>>7731243
Counter question: Can you think of a single reason why it wouldn't?
>>
>>7731244
It's more of a sketching tool. It's closer to drawing with a pencil than a marker or brush.

I'm making my own thing-tober list again and I will draw digitally.
>>
>>7731270
Good luck and share list pls
>>
>>7731243
its not a competition, so you can do whatever the fuck you want from wash to pen to nib or brush.
>>
>>7731257
Ballpoint pens are ink, it's called inktober, so sketching with ink would still be valid anon
>>
>>7731365
Inking is the action not the medium.
>>

My prompt struggles are
>blunder
>arctic
>rivals
>lesson
>vacant

Anyone got any tips for drawing with ink for a beg?
>>
I dont want to be a faggot who does digital for Inktober, but I also dont want to but out all my old trad supplies.

Just start with a sakura pigma micron. relatively cheap to pick up a starter set. You dont really need wide number of sizes. I wouldnt worry about the brush versions (pentel pocket brush can be nice, but some have defective bristles you need to trim/annoying if get shitty one, some sakura sets have 1 brush pen in it). You probaby end up using 001, 01, 03, 05 and maybe spot blacks with a brush or 1 (this is like marker thick kinda thing). Dont get caught up spending lots on nibs or gpens or watercolor brushes and ink. Just start with something simple like $10 pack of microns.

https://www.youtube.com/@RichardFriendartist - comic book artist/inker. go through his archives. used to post lots of tutorials on inking, tools, and videos on hatching like wrightson and franklin booth, etc like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJXCw9J9eFI

https://www.youtube.com/@stephentraversart - does lot of inking videos for landscapes and plein air type stuff. can see how he breaks down a photo or reference and how he builds the ink up into a full image.

https://www.youtube.com/@longstrideillustration - similar to travers with arti tutorials, but shows how to render like other famous artists and other inking tutorials like rocks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KZATKZsRfc or grass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZiopESzIAo&t=5s

try to do pen contorl exercises and focus on various lines and shapes like attached image. Just spend 10-15 mins doing these types of small blocks. focus on line quality. can fill block or go from light to darker/denser lines to create gradients, etc. look up zentangles. they are 'fun' little doodle exercises similar to these. can help with line control and weights to generate patterns and get used to using pen or whatever tool you go with.

once done, move to textures like the rock, grass, etc tutorials. dont do entire drawings. just make generic rock shapes and try to render it. do small squares of bushes and grass sections.

>>7734553
Watch speedpaint and something similar and mimic their technique/method to your drawing

Would it be cheating to start drawing now so as to make up for when I inevitably start lagging behind in the later half of the month?

Swordtember completed, definitely started getting a bit lazy toward the end.

>>7737562
Yeah, I'd say this is the way to go. If you miss a day and have to do two at once, you'll just burn yourself out and quit, having a buffer is better.
>>
>>7737630
That's rad, do you have full sized versions anywhere?

Hell of a lot better than last year’s
Legitimately excited for it this year and to draw along with everyone else
I finally finished 2023 prompts earlier this year, and started redrawing 2021 prompts, so I’m all practiced up. The only thing that might limit me is available time…
>>
>>7734553
Make sure you work at a reasonable size for your style. I tend to like using a lot of detail and the first time I tried I went 8x10 for each day, got disgusted and gave up. I did smaller pieces after that and it worked a lot better.
>>
>>7739476
>The only thing that might limit me is available time…
Same.
Dont think I'll make it with all these irregular rl schedule that I have on october. I've been tinkering around with the idea of drawing 2 prompts in 1 paper, but its squeezing the shit out of my brain in concept/ideation process; out of 15/16 drawing in that 2in1 prompts, I have only drawn 3 of them
>>
>>7739745
Just pick the prompts you like the most. You don't need to draw everything, 5 drawings is still better than 0!
>>
>>7730692
>onion
>>
>>7730692
>skeletal
>>
>>7730692
I'm barely even low /beg/ but I'm gonna try to do this anyways, if only to get more practice with ink
>>
>>7730692
I'm not drawing any of that stupid random shit. But I might put the #inktober hashtag on anyway
>>
gonna start with the prompt now. definitely gonna fuck it up somewhere during the month
>>
>>7739476
>>7731183
Supposedly the creator took notice on the absolute dip in hashtag trends stats, and changed things up
It was truly a horrible year for the prompts
I will be drawing this year, this is a lot better
>>
I hate the retarded ambiguous prompts they keep using. It should be plane, truck, city, girl, flower, tree, etc. Not vacant, blast, murky, pierce, reckless, sweep, heavy, rivals, and other nonsense. Its supposed to prompt people, not be force you to sit and ponder what the fuck to draw or try to figure out what nonsense they are implying.

>wanna do inktober

>>
>>7740099
you cant think of ideas with just one word? are you dumb or dont have any imagination?
>>
Just writing to catch-all the responses from people who say
>theyre too bad
>theyre too slow
>the prompts are too hard
It’s as easy as you make it
>heavy is just a lead weight
>vacant is just an empty box
>sweep is just a broom
Would these make interesting drawings? No. But I thought of these in like 5 seconds
The purpose of Inktober is just to promote drawing something everyday, it doesn’t need to be magnum opus everytime, that’s just your ego getting in the way
>>
>>7730692
Started drawing last year around June, didnt wanna do inktober cause anything I drew that wasn't digital looked horrendous
But I just got a fountain pen and I've been loving it, super excited to draw this year

I feel like it’s in bad taste to have 2 threads up, I vote for keeping it tight to this thread.

>take a pic of your inktober canvas
>open photoshop
>put a big ass opacity'd watermark 'DO NOT REPOST' in your pic
>post the watermarked pic on social media

It is that simple, its like taking a screencap of 4ch post and plaster the word NIGGER all over it so that safe edgy grifter account on xitter cannot steal repost your screencap (that you distribute on this site) to their account to farm internet point

Day 3: I was too ambitious with this pic kek. I had to cut the space back a lot cause I could not manage to fill the empty space. I'm gonna be busy tomorrow too, so I had less time to work on this one as well.

kek jk, I like the aeldar, but this is an imperium focused inktober for me I think. Originally I had a plan to do a story following a civil war on a knight world, but I changed my mind on the first prompt. My favorite faction is actually lost n damned. Rip...
Do you have a fave?

I don't know actually, it's a more evocative prompt than weave I think. Probably some chaos spawn or demon killing some guys is my current thought.

lol I know it isn’t AI and never thought it was. The hands alone are a good indicator that it isn’t AI
>>
>>7747015
NTA but it's a remnant from the xerox era, xerox machines wouldn't pick up blue so you could draw in blue pencil and ink on top and the xerox machine would only pick up the inked lines.
You could achieve the same thing by just adjusting levels or using a threshold tool which would kill all lines that aren't ink, but blue still works better if you're inking on the pencil sheet instead of using a lightbox. it's just not strictly necessary.

They can do a pretty good job, but they aren't perfect. I started using non photo blue pencil as a way of avoiding erasing since the eraser has a habit of rubbing away ink. If you need to avoid this and want to lay down flats quick without fussing around erasing leftover mess from corners and edges then non photo blue lead is breddy good for that.

Someone doing something reckless. People try to think too much outside the box to the point it becomes abstract. Just go simple.
... Or create yourself more hurdles, if you try to make an overarching theme to your inktober, it narrows the ideas, gives you a better guide so the themes don't feel so whatever.
Ask Claude for prompts if you can't think of anything

7/31 isn't bad. I wish I would have stockpiled more panels to give me lazy days in the future.

Just do easier drawings sometimes, most of the words let you just get away with half naked anime girls to save your energy for the ones which don't.

It's the other way around. The demon core is safe so long as the beryllium hemispheres are kept apart, it's when you close them that you get a bad time.

Day 8: Eh, a little late on this one as I expected.
Played some kill team and decided to dedicate today's drawing to a moment from my match. Where I had a tag team of zealots RECKLESSly charge the geomancer. One good plasma shot from the missionary took him down. Really cool moment. The Sanctifiers just look so cool...
I'll be back to the knight world story tomorrow.
