What's an art style you adore that most people hate? I'm a huge Fukumoto appreciator.
Early One Piece.
>>7735055spoiler alert, anon.everybody says "hum actually, everybody hates it, but, i am one of the few who *actually* likes it, because you see, i'm so special" but in reality, it's the opposite.only a few people dislike it.
>>7735055he's one of the most popular manga artists of all time but okay
>>7735477Only a few people who watched/read it dislike it. In reality most people actually do not bother with it because of artstyle or simply a gambling series being out of their wheelhouse. What you are falling for is the "survivorship bias" -- the only datapoints we have are people who have mentioned it. The people who mention it are mostly the people who have given it a shot and most of those people ended up liking it because it's fucking good. People who did not watch or read it simply do not mention it.
>>7735104On god
>>7735708>>7735104Huh? Since when is early One Piece unpopular?
>>7735055mappa's chainsaw man is hatedkaiji is pretty fucking beloved
>>7735689perhaps even an... Ultimate Survivor?I didn't like it for a long time, avoided it despite countless petitions to just give it a chance purely because I had a hard time getting past the art style. Of course in retrospect it really isn't bad at all, it's just different and stands out, but my introduction was back in 2011 so no one had ever seen anything like it before. It was a hard stop for a lot of people.
Modern Frank Miller.
>>7735055I'm quite fond of simple vector art to make punchy graphic illustrations, but the ugly corporate style has sort of tainted that simple look, even though there's a huge difference when someone with talent does the work.Stuff that almost straddles the line between a logo or icon, and an illustration.
>>7738381Even simpler.
>>7738327Eughh. Yucky.
>>7735055I don't think corporate memphis is that bad
>>7739206>corporate memphisIt's not. It's just tarnished by association with big business.
>>7739206>>7739645>It's not. It's just tarnished by association with big business.I don't think it's that bad either, but it was overdone, poorly done, everywhere, and extremely obnoxious about it. There are times when an illustration shouldn't be positive and all smiles, I shouldn't be seeing a massive gormless smile from a purple woman(?) in a hijab with arms coming out of her neck while she also gives a thumbs up, when I'm about to read about meta's new privacy policy. It's a sort of toxic visual positivity - there can't be festivities all the time.
>>7738383this sucks lawl
>>7740366Yes, but I like it, which is the point of the thread.
